Not so sure about Rising Son of Death or Asian Cut getting zeros. Maybe it's the Eastern aspect to those episodes, but I found the mystery held up these viewings pretty well. I compare them to Bushido or Duty and Honor.

  I think what hampers Rising Son of Death is too much emphasis on secondary characters. The Kung Fu swordfight ending took me out of the show -- and C&T conveniently show up at the end after going missing for half the episode.

The smarmy British tabloid photographer mars Asian Cut for me. He reminded me of the silly British villain in another Season 5 episode, very corny and overplayed. The professor bad guy was great in this, and the music was top notch, too (i.e. The Church). Sonny and Rico were together most of the episode, too. Kind of like a sequel to The Dutch Oven: Trudy gets a second kill and needs to deal with the consequences.

I'm gonna put give a little take a little on my list too. The directing and editing is atrocious.

Oh yeah, the guy Sonny arrests, and the guy's wife, are two of the most wooden guest actors the show ever had. No EGOTs for them!

Apparently, I think DJ didn't like that Charlie was always high on drugs on the set. Hypocritical of Don, considering he was infamous for being one of the hardest partying actors in show business!

I just ordered seasons 4 & 5 so I can't comment on them. Haven't watched them in years. "The Fix" is at the bottom for me. I go to imdb & rate episodes as I watch. I have it a 1. Nothing close!!

I like "Made for Each Other"! I think it's a funny episode.

I also like "The Maze". It was one of the first episodes I taped during summer reruns. It's got a great opening scene, the guys look sharp at the club, there's a great musical score, & decent villains. The way it ends with Escobar was great to me. Punk had gotten in over his head. Just a solid episode.

Maybe I was being a little harsh on those Episodes. Made for each other, Maze, Tale of a Goat & The Fixx are all watchable just they are the least good of the series. Alright maybe "the Fixx" is unwatchable. It's horribly directed.

None of them are as bad as Cows of October & Missing Hours so it's all good.

Thedeparted94 is sticking to his guns.  This is the longest running debate in MV forum history.   :D

I still stick with my comment that Dutch Oven just can't in good conscience be put on this list.  It was slow and boring at times, but if you took the Sonny/Trudy interrogation scene and drive/talk scene and put them in any episode of S4 or S5, that instantly would have become the best episode of the season.  The interrogation scene had sizzling 3-way chemistry.  It was well written, too.  They give both Trudy and the investigator some legitimate points to make the situation ethically complex.

I can't include Leap of Faith in this discussion, since I don't consider it to be Miami Vice.  That was some other show masquerading as Vice.   :)

I'll vote for Missing Hours.  I liked Cows and Thaw.  I thought they were funny.  I felt that MV had become stale and weak by that point and it needed to be poked fun at, which is what those eps did.  Missing Hours tried to be funny, but failed.

To me there are just few un-watchable episodes. Many great ones, other ones not that good, other frankly weak, but few objectively unwatchable, and are the well known ones.

Yes, Leap Of Faith shouldn't be included in the list, cause it's really another show (definitely not a great one anyway).

Other than that, the Oscar for the worst episode goes to Missing Hours, The Big Thaw, Made for Each Other and also to Miracle Man, a clear sign we were going towards the end of everything.

Hehe. Well I read back some of the older posts just now and yeh I was being a little too harsh. I've a new found love for season 3 and even though I do like some of the things in season 4 & 5, the overall quality does takes a big dip and some of them really are unwatchable. Or you watch them and think "What the hell happened to this show? seriously?".

I bet Michael Mann was pissed that Dick Wolf screwed it up beyond repair.

I haven't seen all of Season 5 yet, but for now, "Missing Hours".  At least with "The Big Thaw" and "Cows of October" there was a consistent tone of comedy, but with "Missing Hours", the tone is just too uneven to take in properly where you don't know whether to laugh (since it's so ridiculous), or be horrified (when you see Trudy screaming and freaking out in terror).

I think they were struggling for material and direction.

As for the discussion as to the uncertainty in direction and tone for Season 4, in my opinion (though I guess it's easier to look back in hindsight), the show could have easily replaced episodes like "Missing Hours", "The Big Thaw", and "Cows of October" with more supporting character-centric episodes on Stan, Gina, and Trudy each, and expanded their personal lives while adding some comedic elements to it.  ...In fact, a lot of these unusual and poor plots for the episodes being brought up, could have done that actually.  That way, by the time the show arrived at "A Bullet for Crockett" or the Sonny Burnett arc, there would have been an even deeper emotional impact for the show through witnessing the supporting characters' experiences to these abrupt changes.  I don't know how or why a stinker of an episode with an absurd plot, would be considered more reasonable for the show to pursue rather than a supporting character-centric episode.

Around season 3, wasn't there was some backlash about about the depictions of so many drug dealers in Miami? I may be wrong but I remember something like that. There were more wacky episodes & political themed ones as time went on.

You know an episode is bad when Don Johnson doesn't even want to be there. You can tell by his body language in Missing Hours that he's like "WTF is this"

I Don't blame him either
