ivoryjones
Does anyone have an idea on what exactly the fire on Universal Studios in 2008 destroyed from the Miami Vice originals? For what we read at the time some of them definitely turned to be ashes.I'm worried about future releases, including on Blu-Ray, which I bet it could happen in some 2 or 3 years. As far as I know, Miami Vice matrixes are on reels, not on video, and I believe Universal would have to do new conversions from the original reels to have the masters for the Blu-Ray discs. I'm no specialist, but I suppose using the lower resolution masters from the released DVDs just wouldn't do. So if something was really destroyed, that could threat every HD project related to Vice in the future...The problem is old news only speak about it in the the most generic terms. Googling usually returns with variations on the same line: something like "Miami Vice and I Love Lucy reels were destroyed".
Dadrian
it would be cool if they had to completely redo the MV project for blu-ray, with more extras and better artwork, etc.it wouldn't be cool if they said "hell with the whole thing". agent 47
This could explain why according to Gina that they still haven't released season five in Australia.
Gina_Calabrese
Season 4 was released here December 4 2007. That could be the reason for the delay or they're having problems with the music.I still don't see why all regions can't be the same and I'm considering getting Season 5 off Amazon (even though the dollar is so bad right now). agent 47
Supposedly it was done to prevent bootlegging DVDs, but region codes have proven to be not all that great, bootleggers in Hong Kong can take new release films when they release over there and copy to a region all DVD that would work anywhere. Blue Ray is going to be harder to copy due to the strange shape of the hardware and the complicated content.

They said all the video, film and tapes were saved before the fire destroyed the building in which it was stored. PLUS, they had backups of all those films in a totally different place. They have had fires before, and have taken preventitive measures to make sure they don't have everything without backups in just one place. They are too valuable to the studio. They store backups in various places in case of another disaster.Buildings and the KING KONG ride was destroyed, but not the films. -COOP
