Food catering service for MIAMI VICE cost about $25,000 a week. 110 people were served every day at a cost of about $11.06 per person. That comes to $3,000 a day in 1980's money. That cost doesn't include when 60 extras are hired for party scenes either.

MYKEL T. WILLIAMSON who played Leon Jefferson in the Pilot episode, and Sylvio Romulus in TALE OF THE GOAT in season two was married to OLIVIA BROWN (Trudy) at the time. He lived in Los Angeles. They took thier honeymoon after the pilot was filmed. She had been married less than a year at that point.DON JOHNSON's girlfriend at the time, Patti D' Arbanville played Ira Stones wife in BACK IN THE WORLD, the episode Don Johnson directed. Later, Melanie Griffith, his former wife, (and future wife strangely enough) was in an episode as a guest star as Crockett's love interest, also directed by Johnson. JOHN DIEHLs girlfriend at the time, who lived in Los Angeles, also had a guest spot on MIAMI VICE. I don't know her name, or what part she played.

Originally, the only name for MICHAEL TALBOTT's character in the pilot episode was "SWITEK". Before the shooting began on the pilot, Michael Talbott, and John Diehl got together and between them, THEY came up with the first names, and backgrounds for thier characters. THEY came up with STANDLEY and LARRY, THEY created thier look and dress, THEY wrote thier fictional backgrounds, THEY decided that the characters went bowling and drank beer. THEY came up with the idea of the characters wearing Bowling shirts, golf shoes, and Hawaiian shirts.

MICHAEL TALBOTT actually got paid TWICE the amount he was paid for an episode on MIAMI VICE by appearing at car shows around the nation. They paid for his hotel, his plane ticket, and to sign autographs. He got JOHN DEIHL to do it once too, but John hated it, never to do it again.

When practice shooting at Coral Gables Police Pistol Range while getting ready for her role as Gina Calabrese, SAUNDRA SANTIAGO was able to get 24 out of 24 shots right in the target, 35 feet away shooting a Smith & Wesson Model 40 hammerless.38-special j-frame revolver. Police Sergeant Bob Hoelscher at the gun range said that her shooting display was better than some rookie cops!

Michael Talbott and Brian Dennehy knew each other years before they appeared in the movie "First Blood". They have been friends for years, and they even rented a house together for eight years in Los Angeles. They are buddies.Dennehy was doing a film for Michael Mann for TV called, "Jericho Mile". When filming was done, Talbott had a kind of wrap party thrown for his pal. Michael Mann met Talbott at this party, and asked Talbott to play a part in a movie he was getting ready to do called, "Thief" starring James Caan. Talbott was to play a weird guy named, Astro Al, who wore a glove with six fingers, and a fishbowl on his head like a helmet. The part was eventually edited out of the movie. Three years later, Dennehy asked Mann for a part in MIAMI VICE. Mann said there wasn't anything that would be right for him, but asked where his friend Talbott was (he was trying out for a part in a play, but left it high and dry to try out for a series role) as he had a part that would work for him. Talbot did get the part, and the rest as they say is history.

In the pilot, when Crockett checks the phone numbers that MA BELL did a back trace on, when he discovers the leak, and the camera zooms up on the name SCOTT WHEELER, did anyone bother to check out the other names on the list? If you look at the names, and phone numbers on the list that is from the greater Miami Fl area before the camera zooms in, look at the names and zoom in. on the bottom left, 5 names down, Scott Wheeler's name and number appears again. He obviously had made a few calls to give "information". Never would have seen that without the zoom feature.

In 1979 and 1980 MICHAEL MANN made three research trips into Southeast Asia to gather material for a screenplay. He flew to Hong Kong, then he went to Thailand, and slipped over the border into Burma into a region known as the GOLDEN TRIANGLE, the very heart of the Opium trade in the world. He talked with Thai hill tribes, exiled Chinese Kuomintang army men, and opium warlords. He observed the private drug battles between the Drug Enforcement Administration and the CIA."There are maybe fifty people in the world who know what's going on over there, between the DEA and the CIA." remarked MannMichael's adventure resulted in much of the background material for the character of LT. CASTILLO, and the episodes GOLDEN TRIANGLE and BUSHIDO! (Some day, he plans to do a film called "DARK SOCIETIES", the screenplay based on his findings, although he admits it would have to be updated for today.)

The scene from DUTCH OVEN where Gina and Trudy arrest a pervert who wants to watch Trudy have sex with two children and watch...............actually happened. Here's the true story. While preparing for their roles in MIAMI VICE, Olivia and Saundra went undercover with the real miami vice squad. They dressed as prostitutes, and went out where real stippers were. They each had an officer with them also dressed as prostitutes. They each wore a bug, and were told they couldn't tell a john how much money, or the sexual act they would perform. The john had to say it.Once the john had stated the price and the act, Olivia and Saundra were to walk around the back of the building to a motel. The police would then make the arrest. They were told that if an officer said, "Oy vei", that meant to hit the ground or run, but to wait for instructions on which one to do.On that night, a guy drives up with two teenage boys in the back seat. Olivia talked to him through the window, and the real police officer sat on the hood of the car looking through the windshield. The guy wanted to pay Olivia fifty dollars to have sex with the two kids. While she was trying to lure him out of the car, the police officer says, "Oy vei".The officer didn't tell Olivia to either hit the deck or run. She was scared, but remained calm. She tried to stall him by trying to get him to offer more money. The guy finally says, "O.K., five dollars more and I'll watch." The police came and arrested him. It was only then that she learned that the police woman on the hood of the car had seen that the man had a gun next to him!True story!
