This is amazing! thanks for showing me Coop!  and only $533? I suppose back in those days that was considered a high pay!  :) but considering how much each episode cost to make, did they get some form of pay from that as well?

If you look on the residual check paperwork I posted, look at the "producer's Gross". He was paid $26,666.67 as of 2 / 27 / 92. I'd say that's a lot of money!

His "residual" check on top of that is $533.33 for when it was re-aired on cable TV. Anytime it was re-played somewhere, he would get another Residual (or "royalty") check!

Gustave Reininger died in 2012. If he only got two of these checks per year ($1,066.00) then he made more than $46,000.00 on this one script till he died. He may have cleared $50,000.00 if he got royalty money from DVD sales and other checks when it was shown in other countries.

Roberta Wood Very interesting. How long are some of these residuals paid?

I'm under the understanding that they were paid per episode, so I'm guessing weekly.

The residuals are paid for the life of the Writer's Guild of America member's life!

Wow! I should have been a script writer. I gotta talk to my guidence counselor!

Did he write any others or was that the only one. It wouldn't take too many of those to ensure a comfortable life style. If you could crank out 10-12 even you'd be doing good.

How did i missed this again? The Scrapbook has become so big over the years.

That is pretty cool...27000 bucks...that's a normal guys year income.

Thank you COOP for bringing it up again.

Timm525, this was the only script that he did for MIAMI VICE that was made into an episode. He did write another one, "BROTHER'S KEEPERS" which I posted about, (and has a thread in the scrapbook section), but it was not purchased, or made into an episode. He later did CRIME STORY, and I think did the pilot as well. I almost bought his personal original pilot script from CRIME STORY, but I only collect MIAMI VICE, so I passed on it.

Christian, you are welcome! There are things that are missed, and should be brought up (or simply just go through the scrapbook section and look for things you may not have seen! I know it's big, but  you could just skim over it.)

More cool stuff is on it's way....

Thanks Matt5!  As one can tell, this is a pretty rare item. This was one of this personal items that most people would never in a million years get to see.

If someone would ask me "What is the best on this website?" The Scrapbook would be among the Top 3!

Personally, I'd rank it higher than under 3 for it's uniqueness as it's the only place on Earth view such a collection of MIAMI VICE things, ...but then again, who's counting? ;):)

Amazing...and that was just for writing (1) episode.  If you figure that episode has to have aired at least, what, 100 times since 1988, that would be $53,000 alone in royalties!  I wonder how long they (the writers, or anyone else) got residuals for the show?  I'm guessing it was likely in their contract with MCA/Universal.

Maybe it is my number two who knows? ;-)

I love the Scrapbook.

But the best thing and my number one on this website is the FANTASTIC USERS FROM ALL OVER THE PLANET!

Collectively, that's a lot of money! They continue to get royalties as long as the shows continue to air, and as long as the union member in good standing is alive. He died, so the royalties end (unless there is a clause in there somewhere that a living spouse continues to get the checks, but I'm not sure about that part.).

Thanks mvnyc and bluepearl!
