  2. Just watched this movie which was great except for maybe just one too many twists at the end. Was skimming through locations and searched on our forum and it seems there is no designated thread. Without trying to do a full guide yet, here is a couple of things to start. A location I loved was the Van Ryan mansion, it's just a really grand home: In a scene where upset Kelly is walking from the dock back into the home with her mother, you can catch a glimpse of tall port cranes, which makes the bridge and road behind the ladies the MacArthur causeway, and along with the curving of the house lot's edge and relative distance puts it into the only two options possible: southeast ends of either Palm or Star islands. There is only one home there matching the overall layout and architecture, but earlier we can also catch the house number on the gate - 40: Which seals the deal for 40 E Star Island Dr. A beautiful home built in 1925 and overlooking Miami Beach, it is currently owned by a Turkey-born tycoon. Here is a location which is a mystery. @airtommy brought up that scene by the end of the movie in a different thread. Could it be Virginia Key or Crandon beach? One of these was certainly used in the movie (Suzie murder and investigation), easily identifiable by this structure: Though there was trellis added into the columns since then, which was a good beautification for this pavilion, it looked abandoned in the movie. Both Virginia and Crandon have these: So you'd think it would make perfect sense to shoot the other beach scenes there, but indeed the hotel (or "hotel") in the movie is not a structure existing on these beaches today, and I couldn't find anything different on late 90s aerials either. I am also suspicious because while Crandon generally matches the beach look, the beach doesn't have these short palm trees (I'm sure @Tom knows what they're called) we see in the scene planted everywhere: Unless they are exactly in fact the palms currently existing on Crandon beach, and that's how they grew over the last 25 years. Like these: Now, if it was a real hotel, maybe we could get a hint from a possibly real hotel towels, but I can't get a resolution good enough to read what's on them: @miamijimf @Matt5 Looking forward to any more thoughts.

  3. it's been a while i didn't watch The running man. and for me it's simply one of the best 80s films, and one of the best featuring Schwarzenegger, if not his best. from acting, to plot, to actors, everything is solid into that movie. i also discovered it was inspired from a Stephen King book, and was directed by P.M. Glaser

  5. Just got these brand new for only $17. Similar to another pair I have but the back half is dark blue/navy. Something a little different but still retains the essence of Vice, IMO. I'm going to an 80's themed costume party in a few weeks, so it'll be fun to test these out with the white suit (as per usual, lol).

  7. If I might respond to your final comment about the fit of the shoulders. I believe the difference is that the shoulders on your jacket are more heavily constructed, which is the norm actually, but not present here with DJ’s jacket. Notice how it rounds over his shoulders whereas yours comes to more of a point. This is because of the padded lining added in the shoulder by your tailor. DJ’s likely had little to none, so it drapes more like a windbreaker jacket than a constructed one. If it were possible to put both coats on hangers next to each other, the difference would be even more obvious.

  9. I don’t have a lot to add, but I just saw PMT on the Tonight Show in 1985. It was apparently just after the release of his first album Living the Book of my Life. He had a lot of grand ambitions as explained to Johnny, including his goals for the EGOT, though he didn’t use that term in the show. He also mentioned becoming a billionaire to help humanity. Not a long segment really.

  12. I know it’s been said — but this is sublime and would have worked in any Season 1 or Season 2 episode. Released in late October 1984. Henley’s bandmate Glenn Frey of course was featured heavily in Miami Vice — in four episodes. Don Henley didn’t appear till the 4th Season in the fall of 1987. He only had the one song feature in Miami Vice I believe. The Eagles had none.

  14. Another thread for a Miami-set movie, this time instead of "filming locations" I decided to call it "film & locations" so it's clear the discussion of the film itself is also welcome. @airtommy , @miamijimf you showed interest in this movie before and my understanding is CGlide's site doesn't have it. I generally liked the movie, but I'll like anything filmed in Miami and I'll like anything with Kurt Russell, so this was easy. It is a really great movie locations-wise. Some Miami movies are either full of just "mainstream" locations everybody knows, and sometimes don't show the city at all. But this one, just like for example The Specialist, has some great locations which fall into the goldilocks zone of looking findable and interesting at the same time. I think Miami movies deserve their own threads and not just quick comments in this thread, so we can thoroughly get on locations if we wanted. Don't mean to be making these threads CGlidesque by trying to go each location from the start of the movie. Rather, a leisurely stroll here and there when the mood strikes. @miamijimf in your comment elsewhere from 2015 you mentioned a Coral Gables house, I assume this one. I just found it. To me the most useful shot was this: I have some intuition for Coral Gables and this street immediately gave me the vibes of the central areas between the Granada and Country Club sections. I also through of the University Drive and even more so of Old Cutler Road, but ruled those out quickly and focused on Almeria Ave and Columbus Blvd. Of course the playground in the back of this shot was really helpful too: It's 2416 Columbus Blvd, further confirmed by the numbers around the door. Here is a note about this home (shot from another angle): https://www.floridamemory.com/items/show/165833

  15. I find the 1986 and 1994 aerials are pretty decent in quality. In 1986 the tree is very insignificant compared to the movie in 1999, but in 1994 aerial the tree is as bushy as in the movie. And: the cafe was real until the license expired in 1998. https://www.myfloridalicense.com/inspectionDates.asp?licid=2313107 On Facebook there are even pictures of the last remaining tree behind of the cafe location, one of the oldest pine trees in Dade Cty - before it will be chopped down shortly for developers (of course, who could have guessed?!) https://www.facebook.com/groups/1410604355754362/permalink/2788157614665689/ Is this now enough original location evidence for you or do I need to find the original wooden planks from the cafe too?

  16. 701 Brickell Ave (built in 1986). Easy to triangulate: the multilevel building on the right behind the guy at the window is Brickell One built in 1982 on Brickell Key and was the only building on Brickell Key in 1985 when the movie was supposedly filmed- it was rather filmed in 1986 due to built date of the building they are in. Also the land on the lower left outside the big window is the (north tip) of Brickell Key with the mouth of Miami River seen as a small tip above. In the background is clearly the Port of Miami. P.S: the building south of 701 Brickell is the only other that could potentially match with the angle and the distance we see, but 777 Brickell was built in 2008 and can be ruled out. See my pics below.

  17. I recently acquired another film noir that I previously had not heard of…Hell On Frisco Bay (1956). With a powerhouse cast (screen legends Alan Ladd, Edward G. Robinson, Paul Stewart, etc…) and a relatable & intriguing plot (of revenge & justice), as well as stellar performances…this film is a fun & captivating movie about wanting revenge when you’re done wrong, but ultimately realizing there are more important things & people in your life! Not an Academy Award, epic movie by any means…but still very relatable, enjoyable, and a welcome edition to my ever-growing collection!

  19. Every time I see flamingos I always think of MV. I have some flamingo sheets, and I recently got this. I realize this shirt isn’t something worn on the show, and is made in Hawaii…but it still “feels” like MV to me! It’s a little early to start wearing it where I’m at , but it’ll definitely be awesome this summer. I’ll probably wear it when watching a few episodes to celebrate the 40th anniversary. For those going to that event, hope it’s fun! But, with all the drama & conflict that has unfortunately “plagued” it…I was wondering if a certain person, that was supposedly part of the planning, was involved with causing the problems? Well, in the past few days it was confirmed on the FB page for the event. He was stated as one of the main instigators. For those who remember him (RB) on the original .org site…obviously some things/people don’t change! But, hope everyone enjoys this coming summer & the joy of having MV for the past 40 years—and looking forward to 40 more!

  20. A couple of Coral Gables news from a couple of recent days It now contains the most expensive neighborhood in the country - dethroning Beverly Hill Gateway - with a typical home in Gables Estates going for over $21 million. As a side note, while in early 2020 Florida only had 2 out of 10 priciest neighborhoods in the US, it now contains 7. California was home to 6 in early 2020, NYC had 2, now NYC has none and California has 3. 27. This is long, but I’ve tried to break it up into easier to read, smaller paragraphs. So, I’ve decided to again, after many years, go through one of my other favorites growing up (besides MV & various others)…the wild & shocking SILK STALKINGS (1991-1999)! When I say wild & shocking…for television at the time, it was! The early 90s was when cable networks started to really branch out, and started creating & producing their own shows…instead of just airing reruns of previous shows from the original main networks (CBS, NBC & ABC). The USA network was one that really “took off”, and I don’t know how many shows they created during the 90s…but, it was a lot! But, one of the first and most shocking & provocative was Silk Stalkings…which was a play-on-words, as it was a sarcastic or snide reference to ‘silk stockings’…meaning the murders, victims, and suspects were sex related, and not your old fashioned roll-in-the-hay variety either! This show was all about “kinky” with a capital K (for the time), and lots of the plots, scenes, and murders were so perverted & bizarre that the show was not allowed to be aired even in prime time! It had to be aired late-night, at 11:00 (10:00 central). It started out on both USA and CBS—as part of their “crime time after prime time” lineup idea. However, in 1993 CBS did away with that, and SS became solely & specifically a USA series. Even the intro was the most wild and fascinating yet to-date…with quick clips of sex, assassination, poisoned champagne, strangulation, deadly tarantulas, drowning naked ladies in pools, and perverted murder…all revolving around a mysterious, sexy blonde (portrayed by model Avalon Jones). This was to give viewers the idea or “feel” for what the show would be about…but were not actual scenes from episodes. Like MV at the beginning, I was fascinated & intrigued with SS…in high school it was one of, if not, my favorite show/s! In my opinion SS was the 90s answer to the 80s success of both MV & Hunter (1984-1991), another popular cop/crime drama starring Fred Dryer & Stepfanie Kramer, and created produced by Stephen J. Cannell—who also helped create & produce SS! SS was all about color & wild sets…instead of the soft pastels of MV, the “sizzling” & bright neon colors was the focus of SS. They took the style of sets further than any show up to that time (and I still think they’d catch your attention pretty quick today)! Even the police station was styled with neon lights and multiple rooms or portions were styled as supposedly looking down the barrel of a gun and/or sniper’s rifle, lol! But, despite the wildness of sets & wardrobe…there was a definite chemistry & connection with the cast. There was a depth & “realism” that helped counterbalance the wild styles & colors, as well as had you loving, relating to, and enthralled with the main characters. In Palm Beach, Florida, the rich, elite, & powerful like to flaunt their wealth, party hard…and sometimes kill! The show, and for the first 4 1/2 seasons starred Rob Estes & Mitzi Kapture as Chris Lorenzo & Rita Lee Lance…homicide partners…but, best friends as well. They are without a doubt one of the best on screen “couples” on television! As the show progressed, so did their relationship. SS became the highest rated & most popular cable series on television! That was a huge deal at the time…as the 3 original main networks primarily still ruled everything in TV world. But, from MV to SS…nothing lasts forever. In 1995, and partway into Season 5, Rob Estes & Mitzi Kapture decided they wanted out…he wanted to do other things, and she was wanting to take time off to spend time with her husband & help care for her first child, as she was pregnant at the time. I won’t go into much detail, as for those who haven’t seen it or don’t know (get the DVD set)…but, their exits aren’t “roses & candy” (one a little on the Zito side, if you know what I mean , and the other sort of on the “Freefall” side & left open-ended). But, the show continued on…the first cast replacements (last half of Season 5) didn’t go over well…no big shock there. So, with the last 3 seasons (Seasons 6-8), they brought in actors Chris Potter & Janet Gunn-(who had previously guest starred in some SS episodes), as Tom Ryan & Cassandra “Cassie” St. John—who were now not only being partnered together…but, were ex-spouses as well! However, they actually did have good chemistry, too and fans became interested with them as well…the popularity rose again, and again the show went on till the end of the decade. But, they never quite matched Chris & Rita. At the time I was so angry & upset over how Chris & Rita ended on the show, that I originally refused to watch Tom & Cassie. But, years later I got the DVDs of the entire series, and have since watched them. I do enjoy them on the show as well, but Chris & Rita will always be my favorite stars. But, back in 99 USA went through some changes and SS was somewhat unexpectedly cancelled! Season 8 ends on a cliffhanger, and they planned on coming back for Season 9 to conclude it…but, that sadly never happened. However, the show was amazing, and dared to push the proverbial “envelope” even further than MV had…it’s totally worth watching/getting if you haven’t already! Like MV, there’s episodes you’ll probably not care for…but that’s the case with any show that goes longer than 2 seasons. I truly wish this series would get a Blu-ray release…like MV, in HD this show would “rock” all over again!

  28. Anyone remember this? Probably not as popular as our beloved MV and other iconic 80s shows. I came across a few episodes on YouTube and man, I so dig it! For one the stunts are spectacular, so was Heather Thomas . Lee Major is a great actor and needless to say he's the one carrying the show. He also got parts in the show for those he had previously worked with. For instance, there's an episode with Lindsay Wagner from Six Million Dollar Man and Bionic Woman. Still formulaic as most shows of the time (most of times you see Colt, Howie and Jody doing a stunt start for a movie, then 'Big Jack' barges in to ask Colt to go find the bail jumper of the week, bad guy gets apprehended, final joke end of show) but each story was completely different and you'd get the plot twist more often than not. If you watched at least a season, you'd notice a lot of recycled actors for bad guy of the week and whatnot, especially from other Glen A Larson productions. Speaking of which, there's a great cameo from Tom Selleck in a season one episode set in Hawaii: Just finished season 1 which i downloaded from BitTorrent and there's the whole season two on YouTube

  29. Another location stated as unknown on CGlide's website is this attorney get-together where Bill Murray's hilarious character informs the rich snob lawyer that they intend to ride his client's ass all the way to the bank. This location is also hard to confirm even after finding online where it is - 103 Perviz Ave in Opa-locka. The Cafe Under the Tree (or Restaurant Under the Tree as the menu board on the right says) is no longer there, and the tree itself is also no longer there. The curb looks different even on the earliest Street View (2007) - it's not yellow and has a drain in it: How often you think they redevelop streets in Opa-locka?.. On 2006 aerial the tree is already gone as well: The aerial closest in time (1999) is of horrible quality - the tree appears to be there, but cannot make out any cafe: Same in earlier aerials. There are several sort of matching parameters though, like the wall of another building on the right, another large tree in the back, and housing way in the back on the right. This location is also just around the corner from another filming location - Bill Murray's lawyer office, so would make sense. Of note, this is a Puerto Rican restaurant, at least in the movie: Any chances they built the whole thing as a set? Put bars on the windows for authenticity?? Overall another great location which makes you do work even when you know it

  30. I just noticed that CGlide didn't have Sam's house identified. I could have never ever found this house myself, but I found an article online which just stated what it was. The main problem with this house is that it is completely consumed by vegetation. EVEN KNOWING that this is the house it is hard to confirm that it's the house. Here it is congratulations, you found a forest! In the movie, there are a few shots of it, and you can see that even 25 years ago it was overgrown. The house has no pictures available on Zillow or other real estate sites, so there is nothing online to compare against these shots. There are a couple of clues though. The brick driveway from this shot: Google Maps: The sides of the driveway are currently covered by vegetation so we don't see those curved borders, but the brick overall looks the same. Also, while the blue house opposite it is yellow on all available Street Views, at some angles you can catch that rounded window and you can also see the same black chain link fence in front of the hedge: Another confirmation is the shot of Kelly running away where there is a lamp on the left and the road curves a certain way at the far back of it. While the street and driveways look quite differently today, we can find this lamp (the lamp post is the same, the lamp itself is slightly different): And the road curves just the same at the intersection: Of course this jungle had to be in Coconut Grove. The address is 4156 Crawford Ave.

  32. I don't have anything to add. Crandon Park seems to be the only wide beach with palm trees, so it must have been there. The only elevated structure there is the Crandon Park Cabanas, but that looks wrong and it hasn't changed since the 1980s. CGlide has covered most of this movie: http://www.floridamovielocations.org/page41.html

  42. An interesting mystery is the beach house near the end of "Wild Things". It looks like Crandon Park on Key Biscayne. @Matt5 Did you ever see such a structure there? You actually see them walk inside and there is a working bathroom, so it's not just a facade. However, the Glades Motel was just a set built across the street from Jimbo's, so maybe this beach house was constructed for the movie.
