  1. Alright Vice guys. For the past few years I've been slowly building a collection of Crockett-inspired clothes, as well as working on how to style my hair like Ol' Don (made a thread here last year asking for advice). The good news is I found a way to comb my hair that *more or less* gets the Crockett look when they styled Don's hair in a more "squared" way (mostly season 2 style), rather than that "rounded style" most are more familiar with (season 1). I may even grow it out to season 4 length, but once I can do a ponytail I think it's time to grab the scissors lol. As for the clothes, it took a lot of time (scouring ebay at least once a month), effort (figuring out what exactly my clothing sizes are), and of course money (mostly due to how much I've paid for everything thus far), but I have myself a decent little collection of clothes that I like to wear in various ways when I go out. Now, I don't go out trying to look exactly like it's still the 80's, but I do like to have a hint of that look in a more, contemporary way. No t-shirts, no slip-on shoes, and while I do have a pair of white dress pants, i never really wear them. I stick to khakis or gray or black dress pants. Shoes are always black or brown, though I'm still working on getting a pair of gray ones. I have a few more pairs of Aviator glasses, but they're in my car and it's too cold here in NY right now for me to run out and get them. I have a few pairs of Ray-bans as well. I like the Burnett style/Stallone's Cobra style with the blue colored shades. I'll say this though, I have friends who do stand-up comedy here in NYC, and on a few occasions, some of these open mic-ers have called me out and made some sorta Vice or Scarface mention. So I know I'm doing something right, lol. I should also note that I have 2 more blazers on their way to my house right now. One is another gray, and another one is sky blue (you can find it on ebay, it's a cheap price from a seller in China). Not sure if I'll ever muster the courage to wear the sky blue in public, but for the most part, if the weather permits I sometimes wear these blazers with jeans and sneakers. And who knows, if I do get to move to Florida someday (only 5 more months until I'll be allowed to put in for a transfer at my job), maybe then I'll consider doing the t-shirts with blazers look, as I feel it might be more acceptable there. I may even keep the jeans with blazer looks, ala season 5 style. I think it looks pretty cool as well. Anyway, onto the pics. Light gray with dark gray stripes. Now this one I know you guys will love. I nabbed this sucker without even thinking (it was super cheap AND it fits me perfectly). This one IS white, and it has little pink, yellow and teal stripes all over it. For this one I just had to wear my teal t-shirt for it, lol. I think in these 2 pics you can get a better view of my hair and how I try to style it like Don did. This one is a personal favorite of mine. Wore it while doing some rounds today. Fits me like a glove, very comfortable, and a heavier material, so it's good for winter. Not sure if you can see, but it has very thin pink stripes. Yes, I know Don never wore "heavy" blazers (God, can you imagine wearing winter blazers in Miami of all places? lol), but I can only go with what I can find online that both fits me, and fits my budget lol. Shirt is light purple. Gray blazer with sky blue shirt and gray pants. The blazer has a bit of a "shine" effect to it, which I love. Very "Crockett-esque" IMO. Hard to tell due to lighting, but this blazer, along with all the whites, are actually off-white/cream colored. The shirt is teal. Pants are white. This blazer costed me nearly 80 dollars. I watched it on ebay for months and finally gave in. It's got very light colored sky blue checker patterns on it. It's also a wool-blend, so it's very heavy, and very warm. Perfect for wearing this time of year. It's a little too tight though. Shirt is orange. I know it's hard to tell due to lighting, but I can assure you guys, these are 4 different jackets in similar color, lol. Lastly, another gray with pink stripes, but this one is very light in material, so better for warm spring/fall nights (maybe even summer nights). Only thing I don't like about it is it has somewhat large shoulder pads. TBH, I'm not even sure if it's a man's jacket or a woman's (I'm a very short man, and finding clothes that fit well is very difficult. Hence why I buy online, and hence why it's taken me so long to build this collection), but there's one button on both sides, so I don't think anyone can tell one way or the other. That's all for now. as I said, they'll be more in the future. I actually have some darker dress clothes as well (black pants, black blazer) but I figured for now just so the stuff that looks the most Crockett-like.

Why do they call Crockett "Sonny"?

This question has bugged me for years. I've never met anyone nicknamed Sonny or even named Sonny from birth, for that matter. Was there a particular reason besides that he was a beach bum to call him Sonny?

  5. I have a question for all you more experienced Vicers. I am still working on my Miami Vice clothing collection and I have run into a major roadblock. I know many of the styles are getting more difficult to come by, but even after exhaustive searching for months on end, I have not been able to find pastel henley shirts like ones Crockett wears. I can’t find pink, yellow, or peach, to be specific. You can find three-button, short-sleeve henleys, but they ALWAYS seem to have that “heathered” fabric texture, which I don’t like, and wouldn’t be authentic to the show’s style either. Spring is a afoot, and I’m getting ready to bust out the pastels. So if you guys have had any luck finding shirts in that style, please let me know where I can find them.
  6. So I stumbled across this picture on the internet during a Don Johnson interview from 1991, and I love it. I was wondering if anyone on here has the same picture and if so, I'd like it in High-Resolution please. Thanks!

    Moccasin or Espadrilles?

Hello everyone! I'm a new user and fan of MV, i have doubts about Crockett's shoes. I want to start adopting the vice style, but I do not know which of the shoes is used with the white Blazer (see the image below). Is a Moccasin or Espadrilles? I'll be grateful for the answer, and I hope you can share it soon to my future fashion collections among other things.

Buy a Detonics Combatmaster Mk VI

I'm not exactly cash flush right now. But since firearms sales are way down, and there seem to be a lot of good prices on new ones, I thought I'd check to see if it has affected the prices on vintage handguns. Checked Gunbroker and the only Detonics I see on there are the same 4 by the same seller who has listed them for years now. He is asking over $1000 for all of them and no one is biting at his nonsense. It seems like there used to be several Combatmasters coming up in the past, and quite a few around the $900 range? I haven't seen any pop up in the last 2 years now. Just the same 4 overpriced examples. Has anyone seen any elsewhere? Is $900 for a clean example pretty realistic?

    Crockett's 3rd Season Haircut Evolution

Hello Vice fans! As a big Miami Vice Third Season fan I decided to post some photos of DJ's haircut to see its evolution through the season (1986-1987) as my first topic ever here. These images were found while surfing the internet. I hope you like it! In my opinion, Don Johnson had his best hairstyle in the entire series during the Streetwise episode filming, starting October 17 until October 27 in 1986, because he had a mixture of his 2nd Season haircut plus the spiky part and a small mullet on his back (you can see that haircut in the last photo shared here, where he's wearing a teal/blue blazer with a black Henley t-shirt).

    My fresh montage:)
  12. I have been working on my Smith & Wessons (645-early, 645-INT, 6906-early) lately, doing some polishing on parts for smother action and considering spring changes. Trying to avoid grip changes to keep external authenticity of the Crockett sidearms. And I realized inside the 2nd and 3rd gen S&W autos, there is firing pin safety that only releases the firing pin under full trigger pull. I've been carrying these DA/SA in condition 2 (conditions listed below) with the de-cocker safety engaged. Given the nature of the Galco 262 shoulder holster, having the 645s fall out is a concern as the thumb snap has tricked me a few times into thinking it was fastened but was only partly. I've never had a drop tho, but an ND (negligent discharge) is a concern. However with this pin safety, I realized the hammer resting on it is not a concern like it is on a 1911. So I went back to watch a few episodes to see the condition Crockett carried in, for both the 645s and the 6906. There are several clear views of the 645 being drawn in C2 with the de-cocker off, and in Asian Cut when he pulls the 6906 and hands it to Trudy it is clearly in C2. On the S&W, this is probably the way to carry it as you really have three safeties (not counting the mag disconnect) of the DA pull of the trigger, the internal firing pin safety, and the de-cocker. The de-cocker on is redundant, as dropping it on the barrel or hammer will not move the pin out, only pulling the trigger will. Which is a bear to pull DA, so accidental trigger pull is almost impossible. I haven't used a trigger scale on mine, but I've seen them pull 12 lbs on some videos online. I don't have a Bren Ten, or a Detonics Combat Master Mark VI (yet). So I don't have any hands on experience with these. I did know that the SA Detonics was meant to be carried in either condition 1 or 2. I know from 1911s in the Army, we carried them in the GI holster in C3 at all times unless imminent combat when it is C1. But Crockett is clearly carrying the Detonics in the ankle holster in C2 in many scenes, which is a no-no on other 1911s. I looked around a little to see why the Detonics could be carried in C2 and regular 1911s not, and the only difference I could find was a stronger firing pin spring in the Detonics keeping the pin back. I went back to watch the Devo montage from Heart of Darkness for the Bren Ten prep. Crockett loads the mag, racks the slide, then pulls the trigger with his thumb on the hammer just as it cuts to Tubbs. I watched it a few times to see if he uses the slide mounted firing pin block safety when he de-cocks the hammer with the trigger. His thumb is on the part of the slide with the safety button, so it's possible it is engaged when he lowers the hammer. This seems wise, as a slip of the thumb could sink the St Vitus Dance otherwise. The one thing I can't tell on both of these is if he carries them with the on-frame thumb safety either on or off? Obviously to use the SA Detonics he has to cock the hammer first, so working the safety, which is usually used for C1, may be redundant. Since he is using the Bren Ten in C2 DA/SA, he may not have the thumb safety on with DA, as it has an internal firing pin safety like the S&Ws. Anyone notice Crockett's thumb motion on draw? Any scenes that show him using the thumb safety on either? So it seems like Crockett carries in true C2 on all his sidearms (assuming he doesn't use the thumb safety on the Bren Ten and Detonics). I was considering a spring swap on the trigger and hammer to decrease the DA pull. So when I draw and flip the de-cocker, I don't have to thumb the hammer. Just focus on front and line up rear sights then wrap finger and pull DA. But maybe I should leave the de-cocker off and just rely on the stiffer DA for safety just like Crockett? I am going to try a less stiff recoil spring to see if that improves my follow up shots either way. For those unfamiliar with Cooper's conditions: Condition 0 - round chambered, magazine in, hammer cocked, safety off (ready to fire) Condition 1 - round chambered, magazine in, hammer cocked, safety on (cocked and locked) Condition 2 - round chambered, magazine in, hammer down (DA/SA) Condition 3 - chamber clear, magazine in, hammer down (Israeli carry) Condition 4 - chamber clear, magazine out, hammer down

    Miami Vice. Moments

    I adore them. I can`t stop:)
  14. Hey guys, I've been doing some searching on the 'bay looking for some Vice inspired clothes. I figured if I found anything that has the "Vice" look that I'm not interested in I would share with the community in case someone else is. I'm gonna try to make this a regularly updated thread (probably about once a week) so getting this thread into the "sticky" section would be great. Here's our first selection. A very close match to the light blue blazer and pants that Don Johnson wore as Detective James "Sonny" Crockett in what's considered one of the best episodes of the series: Episode 1 of Season 2, "The Prodigal Son" http://www.ebay.com/itm/201048087746?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
