The Ferrari Daytonas of Miami Vice

Information-wise to one single aspect of the show, this thread is probably the biggest contribution to the world from this sight. If I ever got a chance to buy/build a Daytona, I know I would be able to get virtually any answer I could ever need from these posts. If not, I could tag or PM the brightest and best.

agree, however the rub is that the information is scattered over meanwhile 93 forum pages which makes it a bit hard to follow-up for someone who hasn't been involved from the beginning

Somebody should condense all the info into a categorized resource—maybe even with links to correlating posts. That could be a great page! It would be A LOT of work, though. :)

Yep, the info is hard to follow along w/ different topics mixed in all over but hey, it’s still great reading. My wife asked what I’ve been reading to be so quiet over the last few nights. I told her McBurnie Daytona research. Yep, she knows what a Mcburnie Daytona is lol.

Hopefully there will be more to post soon.  The guy that is correcting our Daytona to closer TV accuracy has met with Roberts, McBurnie and even Camera Daytona for interviews.  Once he presents it to me, I'll see if there is any "new" or un-discussed info.

Thanks for volunteering for the job buddy. Let me know when you want to get started and I can give you moderator permissions for this thread! You're not doing anything till retirement right? :)

Can you take over on the MV music video at which I’ve been whittling away for nearly a year now? :)

I could do that but I honestly don't think you and the rest of the members would want me to do that.

Interior color question. Which of these colors looks close to the Camera Daytona interior? I’m building a 1/24 replica of CD’s #4. The last pic are my original Daytona w/ the Khaki interior.

door: sand (flat)

dash: satin almond

console: khaki (gloss)

IMHO none of the three does really cut it. They're either to grey or too brown. I think the iterior color of your original built is even a closer match, at least in the close-up. I would not go for flat or gloss, semi gloss/satin is the way to go .

Thank you Daytona365. I will keep looking for the right color. I still have the gloss khaki I used in the old Daytona model but I wasn’t really happy with any of these colors either lol. You’re just backing up my thoughts.

@ZAQ 178  it's hard for me to discern colors from your images but they seem a bit off. Here's a few screen shots, and one of Car4 taken years later...hope they help.5a871eb9950d7_TaleoftheGoat(12).jpg.d642ece8fb18490569ded9899333196b.jpgthedaytonatoday3.jpg.bde9871c3cfb496d561846b3fbb72d45.jpgcar14.jpg.16443aebee478ccf44db297ea9881ef0.jpg5a871f10cd0bb_Junk20Love20(2).jpg.72080677ed05034bb2399207c7aacebf.jpg

I have so many of these photos saved from CD’s #4 car & have been staring at them all week long trying to decide what’s best for color & I think I got to a point I couldn’t tell anymore lol. Thought I’d ask the pros

I am having a hell of a time finding a light tan spray paint though! I can only find dark tan or khaki. Now I’ll ask this, what color do you all see when looking at CD’s interior? Beigh/sand, saddle, tan?

I'm fairly certain my leather is the same as the Camera Car, and it came with its original swatch seen below (not exposed to the sun). It is called Connolly Saddle.  P1000888.thumb.JPG.e8b86d1e3b9b56972fbd68e7dbcaac19.JPG

A couple more at different exposures...keep in mind the leather in both my car and Car4 are now considerably lighter than this swatch after exposure to the sun. P1000886.thumb.JPG.0c6bbec5576d2ca031342fc47d0e1da4.JPGP1000890.thumb.JPG.72506215f67b7a28f6bece1a7e1291bf.JPG

Here's a few of my interior. You can see the impact of fading of the Saddle Color over time. Interestingly I found a shaded area and it does match the swatch:

That’s a damn fine interior Sonny! The color looks buttery. I love it!

Thanks ...though i am terrible trying to describe colors I'd have to say it is a sun-lightened saddle, and has really lightened with age to perhaps a light camel color....with a bit of a darker tint on the door panels.  Hope that helps.

Seems pretty good match to the swatch I'd say, though keep in mind Connolly leather was typically used for high end luxury cars back in the day, and so it may be different than that used in Vettes.  Also the issue to consider is whether you want to match the swatch or the lightened color seen in the series? Personally, I'd go with the latter.

Then use bottled paint, thin it and spray it wit an air brush...I'd think there will be a bigger selection of tones availble and you can even mix them to perfection

While it’s a great idea, I have no experience w/ air brushing. I’m ok w/ it closely matching your swatch which I think it does. Then once I build it I’ll leave it in the sun all summer & it will be perfect lol.
