Looking for a MV Daytona replica!

mvice8489 I just posted over in the other thread "looking for wheels"

Check my post there as I was at a wheel guy in Florida on a trip some time ago. This guy is hidden in a small industrial strip mall in Miami and he has the most amazing wheels in stock!

I found a special wheel for my spare tire for my boat trailer and bought two special 4" racing wheels for my buddy in Niagara for his 1964 Corvair race car. They were brand new (old stock) from the 60's!

Give Bobby a call and he might have wheels in stock or if not I'm sure he knows where to get them.

Can't believe JN's car had the original vette dash????

I would have thought it would have "Smith" Gauges like many of the others I have looked at!

I'm not a fan of the two big circles......................

Only because that is the gauges for the show car.  Being a fan of the show car dictated the way I went.  And adding Mardikian markings to the Corvette gauges was easier then the aftermarket gauges.

VDO is a private company that makes aftermarket gauges of all kinds. They are mostly for Marine as I do a lot of modifications on customers boats at the marina and order them often as replacements in consoles on boats. They are of exceptional quality and are also very decorative as they come in different anodized settings however they are very expensive.

The automotive use of VDO is quite common as they are very dependable speedometers and tachometers for automotive use and quite accurate as well. many aftermarket uses such as the Daytona use them as they have a good reputation and look cool!

I think they look much better than the two big circles that are common on the Vette dashboards. VDO separates the oil pressure and water temperature from the centre of the speedo gauge from the factory. Having all the gauges separate is much better for viewing than depending on "idiot lights" for the oil and coolant.

Hope that answers your question.

actually just looking at them they kinda look like the mcburnie gauges in the red one here

the same sort of general design save for the markings. and I must admit I am not a fan of them though, mind you that might just be a matter of taste with the fonts with me, as I'm much more a fan of thin italic like fonts.

hell maybe the wiring harnesses are the same, as I think sonny was having trouble with those warning lights so he'd probably appreciate the help if they are indeed VOD's

Stinger-

That perfectly answers my question.  Thank you very much!

The car has the Daytona style wheels similar to these:

http://www.diecast-utopia.com/images/ferrari-daytona-big-2.jpg

I much prefer the Borrani looking wheels as those are obviously what Crockett had on his car.  Where can I get those?

Supposedly the size is  225/60R15   8 inch rim

Thanks again

Actually Pritt's car HAS Borrani Wire wheels on it, and theres probably more than a few shots of it in the main thread just to give you an idea of what your in for with those

and my own personal take on the wire wheels was that I was thinking maybe beadblasting, or brusing the rims, and not the wires to give them a much more subtitle finish, and the spinner maybe, along with sizing them up an inch to 16's

as the zenith's, daltons I should say nowadays are low rider based tire makers, so they should be able to stand up to the stress just as well as the borrani's but they might be a touch over blinged up because of that, hence the brushed finish idea.

as a good brushed finish like what is used on the Sig 232's and the 645's and the like are a good way to keep a stainless steel gun from turning into a pimp gun.

5512404531_b738e38d58_z.jpg

like that one used in the shadow that I was just watching a review of last night

400px-TheShadowLAR1911.jpg

mind you their even worse to keep looking right because of that, much like the stainless steel finish on the delorean, that requires specialist help to fix the finish if something goes wrong with it.

plus it would allow for more brake and tire choices and most cars I think are ATLEAST 16's now. and its a classic look too, very similar to the F1 Racers of yesteryear

and also with how flared the cars are I was thinking either above or below 235's, hell with the 15's I just like how much Meat Sonny Burnett's rear tires have on them, much like those same F1 racers actually.

255's I think with a 60% tire percentage.

which fits given the time period the car is supposed to be from, which maybe why it rings so much better with me than the 235's

plus that may have just been a reminant of the the impression the first gen vipers left on me, as they had this purely beadblasted rim on them back in the 90's

and I always missed those once they got rid of them, along with the solid targa top, and they even made a one off chrome version that was used on the GTS at one point for the TV show

jesus chances are if anyone would have those solid steel amber zenith wire wheel Emblems it would be him them, as guys like those in the firearms industry are worth their weight in gold to keep the old girls running lol

@Mvice8489

Finally i could find the link from the Daytona with the original Ferrari-gauges: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Replica-Kit-Makes-Other-Daytona-1974-FERRARI-DAYTONA-ROADSTR-MIAMI-VICE-QUALITY-CUSTOM-BUILD-REPLICA-/281400732434?forcerrptr=true&hash=item4184ca6b12&item=281400732434&pt=US_Cars_Trucks

The Ferrari gauges are bigger than the VDOs, so there find only 6 instuments place in the dash instead of the 8pcs. (dash of my car with the VDOs)

I understand that many will like the VDO's.  I think they look really cool.   Having said that, though,  I very much respect JN's decision to do his dash/guages the same as the actual 'Vice car.   The 'show car' was HIS dream (mine too!) of which he wanted his car to resemble.

I have a Black and Tan Daytona. It is in very good shape. What is the going price for this vehicle? It has the Ferrari dash and console. It has the star shape rims. Not the spoke ones. Ferrari style seats. VDO gages. I just put an overdrive automatic in (700r4). New holly carb. Has AC. Aftermarket performance engine. 29000 miles on it. McBurnie built. Have paperwork going back to the build. I believe it is one of his earlyer builds.

I'm trying to decide if it's time to move on. I have had it for eight years. Thxs

@Mvice8489

Yes, it's the dash of my car.

@bigsarg

It would be nice to see some pictures of your car. We all here in this post would be very interested.

Mvice8489 is searching a Daytona like yours. I know, he won't like the wheels but this is peanuts to exchange.

Without seeing pictures  of your car i would say, that you will get something about 30000$ or even more, if it's in good shape.

I call it a Daytona Spyder 20. If your standing 2 ft away and the car is not moving. The car is a 10.

I have been reading and I guess the rims are a big deal. I called a place off eBay and can get them for $800. I'll keep that in mind while figuring out the market price.

Thx for your input and I'll figure out how to get more pics posted in my other thread

Thanks for the lead Pritt.

Great looking car and a great 'sales presentation' !!

Love the wire wheels and the manual transmission will help its resale value.  I'm personally not a fan of black seats, though.

I've been crazy busy at work this week but did get a chance to speak with the owner of the dealership this car is at.

He took the car in as a 'trade-in' on another car and as a result does not have any historical paperwork on it.  As we all know, having documentation as to who built these cars (along with details of the build) is what adds to the car's  value.  I personally would never buy one of these cars without that detailed build history.

As a result of this he understands that his $29K price is a bit "strong".   I know that $25K will buy it so anyone looking for a great looking Daytona here is your chance!!

I started a new thread called

"Please help explain the differences of a McBurnie vs a Rowley or Carl Roberts car"

Would be interested in everyone's thoughts.

In the meantime, please also keep this current thread going with any leads on finding me a MV Daytona!

THANKS !!!!

Look what will be at Barrett-Jackson auction late January

http://classiccars.com/listings/view/754784/1991-special-construction-other-for-sale-in-scottsdale-arizona-85260?trv_cid=e753e48026e97530833e14125c8b778a22931e6c

Unfortunately it is listed by the clowns at 'Gas Monkey'

I don’t think he (Richard Rawlings) exercises the best discipline when he buys cars….he tends to buy based more on emotion IMO. I never see him having a PPI done on the cars he buys

And a 1991' Vette is not a C3 obviously !!

He is a big 'Miami Vice' fan and I'm guessing this sale is a publicity stunt to get his name and company on camera at the auctions.

ome drunk guy in the 4th row will probably pay $30K for it, though !

Well the ebay one is a bit nicer!

That other one has the wrong wheels and I hate the single headlight setup! The seats are also really juicy!?!? Should get them replaced right away!

I can't understand why people insist on putting cloth seats in a ragtop?
