I saw this all over the news today, found the ferrarichat forum, and came here to see what's what.  After the Jeff Souter/Allen debacle that I had to watch last week on the Daytona I ain't buying anything without verified VINs, although on the ferrarichat forum some of those folks seem to think this might be the real deal.  $1.75M is crazy, though, it's almost so high that it raises suspicion, in my humble opinion.  I would think that, like CameraDaytona and the Swap Shop Testarossa, the genuine car will have NBC/Universal paperwork backing up its entire history.  That's something no owner of the genuine article would ever not have on hand.

yeah we actually had someone from ferrarichat (who owned a TR more or less exactly like the Vice TR interior wise) show up and ask about it and what we knew when he tried this before.

wait on the news? where?

it's on several sites such as http://www.nydailynews.com/autos/live-80s-miami-vice-ferrari-1-75m-article-1.2053864 (people will believe anything that pops up on Ebay, apparently) and is discussed briefly on Ferrarichat at:

http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/boxers-tr-m/471218-real-miami-vice-testarossa.html

I for one remain unconvinced until I see a Contract between Universal Studios and Ferrari North America, as well as Title history. And I would want to verify the repair receipts as genuine.

Btw this was one comment about the car in Ferrarichat: "That car appears to have tan interior. The MV cars had cream interior with black dash, not the typical brown."

Is that consistent with your observations, Kavinsky?

also I believe the contracts and the paperwork for the vice car in florida at the swap shop are on full display, the title, contract vin and all that.

I could only make out one document for the swap car, but I didn't see any Contract between Ferrari NA and Universal. Have you seen a photo?

cream interior yes, but not black with the dash, but it was that sort of hard to see with tobasco highlights, as its the most obivious in season 4 with the white out style of soft focus they used

that brightened the look of the dash.

but it also shows that other people are seeing inconsistancies with it in their own respects.

and that was the only photo that was provided of the swap shop doctuments, but I would wadger those are probably under lock and key there, along with the rest of the titles to the exotics at the swap shop

as the guy owns a ferrari FXX in addition to the rest of the car collection, and you had to be in good standing with ferrari to even get the option to own one of those.

and I mean REALLY good standing with them too, as the restrictions on owning one were up and above board.

and I know he owns and personally uses a yellow ferrari daytona spider, possibly maybe even that one that I think is a spider conversion from one way ticket.

I wasn't challenging the Swap car as I have not seen it or the paperwork that may/does exist. But if he has a Contract I'd like to see it. Both cars may be included on that contract so it could be a valuable doc to see.

Was mainly discussing the Ebay Testa that is making the rounds on a number of sites, including Car and Driver. So the Testa dash should be more a brown I believe, but with cream interior.

Have you spotted more inconsistencies between the Show Testa (from the DVDs) and this Ebay Testa?

nah I was just explaining that the serious paperwork like that is and should be under wraps given how easy it would be to find a template and duplicate it.

after all were not talking about US currency here, so the same safe guards built into the paper are probably not there.

and inconsistancy wise, well he needs to buy a new part, he's missing one of the center lugs for the left rear wheel

which is caveman for Vroom crash, and I must wonder what the condition of the rims and the tires are, given that discovery, as Magnisumn isnt known for longevity.

by the way here is a closer look at the material that should be on the dash and the rest of the interior

note the change in look from such a simple difference and light change.

photo two, that is what the dash on the true vice car looks like, minus the carpet and leather being a different color, but nonetheless that is what the dash should look like.

I know this is a bit off topic, but those are both really good TR replicas.  I had to look hard to tell.  I'm really surprised, too...I could be wrong but I didn't think anyone had made a TR replica kit since the 80s, and Key and Peele is a current show.  If I'm right someone kept that thing in amazing shape for a replica.

  • 1 year later...

Interesting...it didn't sell, twice now in the Mecum Auctions. So what are the chances it will get the huge price the seller was asking?

From another thread in here I recall someone who was at Mecum talked about the bidders wanting more paperwork or proof that the car was Series driven.  Nothing new is shown in this listing that we haven't already seen before. Or maybe it was title issues as was also discussed previously.

I talked to mecum before I went to Miami a couple of weeks back. They (too) think the owner was asking too much (7 figures).

Definitely way way way overpriced. The seller is acting like it's James Bond's DB6 or something. It was in an 80s TV show, that doesn't mean it should be marked up by 1,000%. That'll never sell for more than half a mill. Even half a mill might be pushing it.

Well, to be fair he's not actually asking for $1,000,000, that's the buy it now option, If I understand correctly then you can bid $300,000 and if you're the only bidder then the car is yours!

The car previously bid to $600K at Mecum and did not sell, so the owner is expecting/demanding more. Even at the Ebay starting bid, which states "reserve not met", the owner can always end the listing if the bidding does not get what he wants. I've seen that done by other car sellers and this car was previously listed and pulled. I would be very surprised if this car sold for more than that number, even if someone comes forth with solid proof it was series driven. I recall his proof to date are service tickets from the local Ferrari repair shop. Yet what apparently is still missing is any documentation from Universal validating his claim that the car was actually driven in the series.

Apparently, the owner is starting a surge of really cool, overpriced MV memorabilia on eBay :)

http://m.ebay.com/itm/182141611113?NAV=HOME

I would totally pay $38 for this :p

Seriously, though:

The time and effort taken to make a model of that quality would make it worth every penny to a serious collector. This is a super cool auction. I've certainly never seen anything like it.
