James Bond

Is anyone else a massive 007 fan? I have always loved these movies and have recently bought all 23 movies, my personal favorite Bond has to be Timothy Dalton, also has anybody seen License To Kill? In many ways, over the years people have called License to Kill Bond meets Miami Vice, which I can see, because some things are very similar..

Most people fight over who they love as Bond, but I can honestly say I do like them all.

Anyone else share a passion for Bond?  :p

Not really... I watch the classic ones when they're on TV sometimes, but I can never really get into the newer movies.

Massive fan? No, but do I like James Bond films, Yes. I've seen most of them. When I was young, Roger Moore was 007. Right now, I'm really liking the Daniel Craig movies, and looking forward to the new one they are filming. Sad to see Judi Dench go.

I have many great memories of the Sean Connery and Roger Moore films from when I was a kid, even though my mom never allowed me to watch any of them, but since my father was a huge Bond fan he sometimes would let me sit up late at night with him to catch them on Television and it was always a blast.

Sadly nostalgia can sometimes be a bit of pain in the a.., as I went through the Bond set on DVD that I bought a couple of years ago, and found out the hard way that not every Bond film has hold up with time as well as I had hoped for, but John Barry's music still gets to me in a good way.

Anyway, out all the different Bonds my favorite has always been Roger Moore, but also because his Bond era includes most of my favorite Bond babes/villains.

As for Timothy Daltons films I have not seen them in ages but will probably have a rewatch of the Bond series in the near future.

Yes I'm a big bond fan, that bluray collection is a steal.

I was never a big fan of Licence to kill but rewatching it again after I became a Vice fan it's now gone up in my books xD. Overall I think the series holds up and aged pretty well, The connery films look as good as any other 60s film. There's only a few stinkers like Moonraker and Diamonds are Forever but even they have some good parts. I'm not a big fan of Skyfall either, people incessantly praising it makes me

I never really thought about it that way before, but License to Kill is all about drug smuggling from Latin America.  That's a great observation.  I really liked Dalton as well.  He's probably my second favorite.  He was tough and no nonsense, very much like the Bond of the novels.  I've read all of Fleming's novels and short stories.  License To Kill has parts based on one of those short stories, some unused material from the novel Live and Let Die, and some new ideas.  Too bad Dalton only did two films.  Connery is still my favorite, though.  Moore was the bond of my childhood, but the films are less watchable now, though I still like For Your Eyes Only very much.  The most recent films are pretty good, but I never could get into the Brosnan as Bond films.

I'm a huge Bond fan. Grew up during the Moore era but love them all except Lazenby.

I have a two PPK's as well as two Omega Seamaster's that Pierce Brosnan wore. Mine unfortunately don't shoot lazer beams! :-(

Well what can I say, Sean Connery/ James Bond Got me into guns lol the Walther P38 in Goldfinger in particular (if you look close he has it in the DB5 and during the last quarter of the film it seems) and the last Indiana Jones film in particular, the tank scene as I remember seeing it in that and then seeing the thing in person for the first time back when I was a kid up here in a gunshop with my dad many years ago

this polished up black thing, just beautiful, you know not some plastic machine shop dime a dozen kind of thing, as the construction of old walthers to me seems very similar to the way the Japanese used to do Samurai armor and swords, you know something that can just be beautiful on its own with its own attention to detail, not some cheap plastic crap box with a few frame rails and a steel barrel in it you know.

and of course the DB5 itself, although I must admit I wish they would switch it for the Living Daylights V8 monster, as its as antiquated as the old 1933 Blower Bentley he used in the books now with its thin rim's and tires (and I did read the books by the way, and two or three of the 1980's continuation ones, where he traded his custom 1955 bentley T bird lookalike for a saab 93 Turbo -_-) think like bond driving around in a 1955 T bird, of which flemming was a fan of

Cool and nice to have, but not really up for action anymore, and can you really say no to a V8 monster lol and the door is open thanks to this

of course there is always an upgrade in that too if they stick with the original, as I always remember this one from the italian job

or this beaute

and the third one, and probably the most important John Barry's work on the series, which is something that often gets overlooked

Guns Cars and Music, just like Vice lol

I'm a huge Bond fan, too. If I didn't run our Miami Vice forum I'd probably run a James Bond forum. :D

My favourite Bond movies are Goldfinger, Thunderball, Live and let die and The man with the golden gun. I also like the Daniel Craig movies.

Hmm I did rewatch Casino Royale yesterday actually, he doesnt do a bad job (and Eva Green too, jesus she seemed quite real) but something about the Modern ones just lacks the charm of my favorites of the original run

Like I always think of From Russia With Love (as my dad was actually in germany, about 50 KM from the russian border back then protecting the US equavalent of that very machine bond was trying to steal from the russians, so I know that was some real stuff bond got into there)

Thunderball, On Her Majesty's Secret Service,  Live and Let Die, golden gun, For your eyes only and the two dalton films, along with maybe Goldeneye as part of the original run and the true bond films, but the rest seem to lack charm and witt

like they have their good points, like the new P99 and the 750 IL, and Q of course and I did like Tommorow but past that, I cant really say I'd want to own the films on DVD for regular viewiing, and I dont know why, if its just the doom of failure that comes with trying to top each movie

or if they just try and keep the scope too big, when in truth getting something like a Cryptograph machine or codes would do far more damage than a nuclear weapon ever could, plus bond seems too dark and less like he's enjoying it.

as that was the charm of the job in the books, bond enjoyed the action, along with Crockett, here he seems less likely to enjoy it and more like he just does it because he cant do anything else.

hell I wonder if maybe the guy who did Layer Cake, the film that I think got Daniel the job,

did a better job at making a bond film with Kingsman (of which I still need to see) than the past 4 or 5 directors of the past bond films.

plus its fun seeing Miles O Brien in that roll.

Guess the most of you won't agree with mee. Aside from considering Connery and Moore the best actors to portrait Bond, which is quite common, to me they're also the only ones.

Maybe the only exception being Pierce Brosnan, half gentleman, half son of a bi**h. The other ones (Dalton, Lazensby, Craig) just look like dumb nerds to me. Sorry.

Eh dalton I would be to differ as he had more of a believable venom to him than Piece I thought, and goldeneye was supposed to be his baby originally, hence the New M's introduction.

as it makes no sense with a new bond like that, dalton though given his bond had run in's with the russians, it did.

and craig I can understand not liking as with this new bond series I'm getting less fond of it as it goes on really, bond is too granate like, less charming, and less devil may care

and M is downright angry old man like

plus the product placement is getting to be too much, at 4:51

oh whoopie he's driving an ugly new aston that looks like the new bubble butt V8 vantage had a night alone with a Khamra Fisher lol

next! as it just makes me miss this old one even more

http://www.flickr.com/photos/fdybuncio/9359428921

with its low key paintjob and old style square design that would draw far less attention than a bubble butt aston nowadays

also with that specter thing, I could make the acronymn work, Special excecutive branch for terrorismn, extortion and revenge

yeah I gotta admit after doing a Bond Marathon after my last thread on the subject, as most of them I hadnt seen in, probably 10 years.

Dalton was the best of the original bunch for me, and honestly Licence to kill is my favorite out of the bunch, and to think they were gonna do the globe trotting thing with it in China of all places, and thank christ they didnt.

hell that's the one knock you can put against the series, too many different locations as it causes like an audience wiplash effect, and it pulls you out of the movie, like it did with me an the Living Daylights with that afganistan location.

while Licence keeps it from Miami South it seems, which greatly improves the immersion of the story.

and I dont even wanna start the modern era out of respect to Cubby honestly, even though he did have some influence in Goldeneye.

as that guy from the other thread was right, there is no modern bond that matches up with the originals it seems, only the originals.

As Sean Connery said, " the name is Bond.....James Bond."

To me he is the only true James Bond, although I enjoy Pierce Brosnan. When new Bond films come out, I watch them because I'm a Bond fan....but they are not my favorites.  Craig is the worst!

I definitely agree, Tony.

As I wrote elsewhere, Craig looks like a dumb version of Vladimir Putin.

I still watch the old 007 movies with Connery when aired on TV, sometimes I enjoy Brosnan or Moore. Never saw a single Bond movie outside those I mentioned.

It's not just a matter of actors, it's a matter of different cinema, different way to entertain people, and it concerns movies, music and lots of other things too.

Too complex subject to be discussed on an online forum.
