A moment of truth for me as well. Looks like the old SPECTRE is indeed back in action. Whether Christoph Waltz at the end is Blofeld or not they couldn't have picked a better actor to play the head of the organization.

I like how they're tying Skyfall and Quantum of Solace together. I don't know any spoilers but I'm guessing

that because we see Mr White, It'll probably be revealed that the secret organisation "Quantum" is actually "Spectre", so QOS actually serves a purpose in the story instead of just being a pointless sequel :D  yay

I know this thread's bit old but I figure it would be worth updating with some of the recent reviews of the film. Last week was the press screening and review so far have mostly been mixed about the film but this is a case where I have to say the negative things being said about the film have given me more faith in the product than my posts in Kavinsky's Bond thread didn't have.

A few of the positive ones.

And here's a few of the negative ones which gave me some reassurance on the film.

The negatives sighted are often an over-the-top villain, lavish lair with plenty of matching guards, and damsels in distress. Sounds like we're getting a real-deal Bond movie with this one to me. I know the audience might not take to that sort of thing given it's not "dark and gritty" enough but even Fleming's books had their over-the-top elements. It's nice to think Craig might have finally been given a shot to just play Bond instead of Bond-becoming-Bond.

Also don't have an article for it but for another small detail worth rejoicing over is the gunbarrel sequence has been confirmed by some to be at the start of the movie rather than at the end like the previous film.

Hmm I guess I'll just wait and see, hell maybe going to it on a matinee would be the ideal way to see it, as I think its half price at midday in some places

also I found out two rather interesting things, turns out that guy who designed the DB 10 is the same halfwitt who designed the 177, so no wonder I didnt like it, he just one 77'd that fake ass V8 vantage they make nowadays

although he did atleast finally fix the back end so it looks like a proper V8 again, and the interior doesnt look that bad. although its disgrace to every badass V8 vantage that left the factory in the 70's and the 80's when it comes to the existance of that model to begin with, like that aint an aston, its a jag in drag with an aston badge on the front.

and that CX 75, its just a Vintage Jaguar XJ13 with the wrong engine in it, like theres' really nothing special about either of them, their just retro throwbacks with no real soul to them.

but it is LITERALLY the same car, like I couldnt believe it when I placed it, like why am I not impressed with it at all, and why does it seem rather familiar.... oh its that ugly thing!

its exaclly that ugly thing! wait? can they get away with that?

and no wonder the thing got canned, its just a reincarnation of it, and the reincarnation of the fact that, it too got canned and reused elsewhere way back when lol!

like way to curse your own product jaguar!

hell when you come right down to it, this seemes like their aimng to do a Jazzed up version of the Aston and the Jaguar Duel from Die Another Day, which knowing them and the writing team, is exactly what they're gonna do.

and Bond has switched his sidearm to the very one I suggested in my thread, which is abit surreal....... that HK VP 9 especially considering I've kinda fallen for the Walther CCP, even though its only a letter away from being a commie pistol in my mind with that god awful stupid name, and the PPQ is apparently quite the pistol, and just a decendant of the one he used in the Pierce Brosnan and Casino Royale movies, the P99

14519307730_78be1daf1b_c.jpg

a modern version of his old pistol vs the new one, not bad but that name..... that name!

My GOD is that a stupid name for a pistol, PPQ.... like good god its like a decentant of the Roger Moore Roadblock Joke from the Cannonball run movie in pistol form

Oh were on a steak out, ah Bon apetite'! and heres my PPQ to go along with your BBQ Officer, why thank you! lol

like good god it makes me wanna grind it off with a buzz saw with how stupid that is, like just call it a P99 or a Walther 214 or something based on the year it was made, like they must have some idiot from the car world naming their stuff now.

how very UN-german, the american branch must have come up with it.

Given I've posted quite a few times about this film here on the forums I should update that the Blu-ray was released last Tuesday and I viewed the movie last night so I thought I'd give my own thoughts on the film.

I have to say this was a really fun but weird Bond movie. On one hand it's more of a throwback to Roger Moore-era Bond with tons of spectacular stunts and explosions plus quite a bit more humor here and there even on Craig's part who seems to finally let out of his "dark and depressed" cage to play James Bond at last. On the other hand the plot is one bug nutty mix of bizarre surveillance conspiracy thriller and ... paternal issues. I won't say no more about that last bit but prepare to be perplexed at a certain plot point later on. I would avoid this as a spoiler but they made it so obvious I'm just going to point out that Christoph Waltz is Blofeld of course and honestly this Blofeld is kind of tepid and comes across more as a slightly irate Google employee than the head of massive terrorist organization . SPECTRE themselves are painted more as an Illuminati-type group but to be honest they're a bit of a joke here and I just can't buy that what is mostly just a bunch of cult-like keyboard warriors hiding out in one of the most flammable desert lairs I've ever seen are even that much a threat.

On the other hand if you like sillier Bond films this one is a fun film for the most part as mentioned. There's a fantastic opening scene set during Day of the Dead in Mexico with tons of action, there's quite a few great chases, a train fight that ranks up with the best of previous films and the climax was really good. Performance-wise I especially have to give up to Ralph Fiennes who's M is a lot more physical and hands-on even getting in the action later on in the film plus Naomi Harris turned out be a good Moneypenney. Lea Seydoux is the main Bond girl and she does a good job and doesn't come across as either a wimp or just a two-dimensional tough cookie either although Monica Bellucci is absolutely wasted here as she is in and out of the film quickly enough to not leave much an impression. Dave Bautista as the main henchman is like the classic ones and only get's one or two lines but his physical presence is reminiscent enough of someone like Oddjob from Goldfinger so he fits with the retro theme this movie was going for. Speaking of themes the Sam Smith song is just not a particularly good song in my honest opinion. The first ten seconds of orchestra is phenomenal and meshes with the closing of the pre-titles well enough but the lyrics were just lousy and didn't fit well with the tone of the film although the instrumentals were good enough. I also like that the score incorporates the Bond theme more in this film.

Overall it was a fun film. Not a gritty Fleming-esque piece like the last one or the modernized thrillers that were the first two Craigs but something that at times was more akin to the older ones while still having some of the geo-politics of newer age spy thrillers. The big Blofeld twist was eye-rolling and SPECTRE were too easily defeated but the return of some camp and more action is a welcome change. 7 out of 10 would be what I'd rate on a scale.

Minor error needed to be eliminated. Errors are the author of all my pain.
