With the record box office for STAR WARS most people just wanted to be entertained, and were. Was it the best film of all time...no. was it fun? Yep. Fun to visit the galaxy far, far away again, and revisit old friends. I don't read too much into it. I'll see it again as it's eye candy! More new STAR WARS films are on the way that might satisfy your need for a more original story. In the meantime, let's be glad it returned at all.

Agreed. Not the best but worth seeing. Having refused to read anything about this movie prior to seeing for fear of spoilers, I was left a little confused. I did spend about three hours when I got home googling all my questions and reading threads and posts of the movie on various web sites. This gave me a much better understanding so that when I go to see it for the second time, it will make more sense.

I think this movie will grow on us just like the others did.

It did have that fun Star Wars feel to it which is what I was hoping for to begin with. As with the James Bond series, it is becoming harder and harder for directors to keep one up-ing the previous ones. There's only so many Rebellion vs Empire plots one can explore.

I want to give this another month or so before discussing particulars so others will get to see it without reading additional spoilers. I, like a lot of others, have many unanswered questions from this movie. Of course those are also set ups to be answered in the next two...

yeah and the other thing is with stories that go on this long you really need to bring in fresh blood with new people and new ideas to freshen it up.

as theirs only so much a writing team can do before it runs out of ideas, as this movie is using all of the old writers apparently

and with TV shows it seems to be a 3 year cycle, and after awhile shows like Law And Order substitute their stories with ripped from the headlines news stories to make up for it,

while others wither and die, or get new blood in, that will sometimes build on the old and movies must be the same I figure

although their is one particular aspect that most people dont think about, all stories need villains, its just a matter of how MUCH of a Villain they really are, as no one wants to be the villain of their story in real life.

so you end up with this hero complex, where everyone wants to be the hero in their own story and thus gets in each others ways based on a differing opinion and they become the other guys villain if things get too heated.

Xaver Vs Magneto basically.

or someone manipulates someone else into making them feel like their the villain or to be in the wrong in general, leaving them open for manipulation, tool use in their plots or to bow to their whims for whatever purpose they deem appropriate.

be it personal amusement or for monetary and political gain

and alot of relationships end up that way on both sides of the sexes, such as what you see in that old 90's movie 40 days and 40 nights,

and I like movies that reflect that kind of villainy with the new and modern forms of charlatanism and con games, such as the Villain of Quantum of Solace really.

and then you have the flipside, Villains like Mr Goldfinger who are out and about in plain sight but no one quite knows what they're up to.

1:23

as if you watch that film you quickly realize that Goldfinger Foils bond at every point, and its only his womanizing that saves him

and that was literally the only way Bond is able to stop him

and then you have villains who are only villains because of their associations or where they grew up

the general in A bridge too far who offers chocolate to Anthony Hopkins, General Golgo From the bond series and the Animal Probe from Star Trek 4

only villains by association, and often defeated in a far more benevolent metho, and the problem is we have way too many Goldfingers when we need Golgo's

Fyi I deleted a major 'Spoiler' post. I told Coop "Yes. sorry bout that. When it made a zillion $ in one week lol I was thinking in terms of ‘recreating’ instead spoiling to tell you the truth so I didn’t put it in the video titles. But i put it in there now. I figured anyone on the SW thread on a MV forum had seen it. “You assume too much†(from Phantom Menace lol - I should do a video with that and Triumph the Insult comic dog “Spoiler. you want a spoiler. You will die a lone.â€; ) In fact I changed the C-3PO’s red arm from a ‘Spoiler’ to just red arm. That’s what people are searching youtube for. Thanks for being cool about it!!!"

My brother took me to see the first movie I ever saw as a child. It was the original Star Wars. I went on to see the next 2 films in the original trilogy, but I have still never gazed the next 3 that were released some years ago.

Last week, I went with my brother to see the new one, and it was the first movie we have attended together since that first one! I liked the new one very much, but certainly and understandably I was influenced heavily by the nostalgic vibes. Definitely worth the trip, especially in 3D.

Before I went into the cinema, I had wanted to know whether this film would be able to stand out on its own merits. My thoughts are in the spoiler below.

The answer is no. What struck me early on was the film's overriding sense of cheapness: the CGI, set design and cinematography lack the dramatic and aesthetic flair that makes an otherwise basic storyline something credible and engaging to behold.

Regarding the story itself, the presentation is crude. The characters are shuttled between various coincidental encounters, none of which end up being as spectacular as one might expect. The story's relative narrowness of scope is not compensated for by any interesting expansion of 'lore' or character.

All in all, much like most other works of fan fiction, the film relies heavily on vignettes of tried-and tested iconicity, and takes its story too seriously at the expense of style. Like a high-school production, it nevertheless provides a good night out.

That assessment sounds fair to me. But I certainly did enjoy myself. Most people reported having enjoyed themselves, and will pay to see it again It's hard to follow an original isn't it?

By the way, thank you guys for your class in not posting spoilers. You guys really are awesome! Your tops with me.

Yeah I came to the conclusion that JJ is a restomodder, the old bones and framework are there and known but as to its success as something else beyond that, well that's up the viewer to decide.

and the thing that got me to that conclusion was the star trek beyond trailer, as SFdebris, a featured and well known reviewer of star trek posted an idea of what they could have done for star trek 3 years ago.

and the ST09 review of his got featured on trek movie, a place where Robert Orci and the people who worked on the films frequent.

and it plays just like his what they could have done monologue from the review, to the point where I went out of my way to contact him and point it out to him, with no response sadly, as its downright plagiarizimn lol

Make it an actual search for spock, with them stuck on the planet with no way to call home and no enterprise to save them.....

also what the hell is it with JJ that the only music that survives into the 24th century is the beasty boys?!

lemmy is god god damn it lol

although I'd be lying if I didnt say that actually looked like fun, but it looks like they're even on the bird of prey bridge from star trek 3 in it!

and like I said I found out what is going to happen just based on the behind the scenes notes, just like with star trek into darkness, as they let it slip that they wanted to end ST09 with them Finding the botany bay out in space

I mean theirs restomodding and then theirs building on something, and I have yet to see JJ do that in any of his work.

also how much of this applies to star wars?

also am I the only one who think luke looks like Raymond Burr now lol

Luke Skywalker is Perry Mason In I'm too old for this shit lol

Edit: apparently george isnt too happy with the final product just from the brief glimpse of his grumbling on twitter

I was just doing my rounds and Chad Vader here has a few interesting words to say about this

and I think his words mirror what everyone else on either side of the fence on this movie is thinking, you have the basis down, you have your casino royale down, now where do you go from here, Star Trek 2 or Quantum of Solice

I agree with the guys that are in that video. They got to go further next time. Get out of the comfort zone. But it was a nice fun film this time to get us back into it. Got to go further next time.

I rarely get into extreme science fiction or fantasy films, and this movie was... okay.  My family during Christmas vacation took me along with them.  I thought the movie would have been at least 3 hours considering how much material they would have to work with, but I guess not.  A lot of the movie seemed to want to set up, and explain the changes of what occurred since "Return of the Jedi" rather than pushing the plot along more, but meh...  there's 2 more movies.

I'm hoping Jar Jar Binks will finally be revealed as a high-ranking sith lord during this sequel trilogy!   :)

The video clip is 48 minutes, but it's so engaging you won't notice how quickly the time passes since he analytically explains the whole "Jar Jar Binks is a Sith lord" Reddit fan theory.  ...It's pretty convincing actually.

...As George Lucas said, "Jar Jar is the key to all of this..." ;)

I saw the original back in 77 at the theatre.

I agree it was great movie because, for the time, it was a remarkable piece of cinema! It definitely took you to a galaxy far far away.

The second one.........well lets just say those of you who read my posts know my opinions on remakes. Second one was ok but just a re-hash.

The rest were quite juvenile and insulting to me personally especially jar jar.. I thought I was watching an episode of Seasame Street!

I have put off seeing this new movie for as long as I did but last night I broke down and went to see it in 3D.

I found it entertaining, interesting that the original stars were back but I only give it a five out of ten. I could see the plot in the first five minutes and it had no real "WOW" moments like the originals. It was a bit pretentious but still fairly good story telling with good visuals.

Am I looking forward to the return of Luke Skywalker?   ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm..........................

I enjoyed the movie as it was fun like the original. I am currently in Orlando and have been in to the Disney Studios twice to see the shows, characters and ride. I can't wait until the new Star Wars area opens there in the future as the artwork for it looks awesome!
