The composer has apparently died in a plane crash today, as its just coming over the news ticker, single engine plane from the look of it

 

and I must ask what the hell is going on this year, 6 months in and Harve Bennet, Nimoy and now Horner has died and Nichelle Nichols has had a stroke recently too, although I must admit I'm not that broken up about it, I mean horners passing, not what happened to Nichols, as I really only remember him for the scores of the 2nd and 3rd movies, and he basically put down his work on trek saying he had grown above it (what a nice guy)

 

but still its just a what the hell is going on kinda deal.

Holy Crap, is this true??  I'm a collector of film music, and have many, many of his CDs (If you've visited my profile page, you will see I'm a film soundtrack collector).

 

Wow, if this is true, it certainly is a shocker, ..and sad. He can be a lazy writer, and he can be a brilliant writer. This is really, really sad.

 

To never hear another brand new note of his music again is terrible to me. Although not my very, very favorite composer (john williams has that title), when he was younger, Horner was a quick favorite, and I bought his CDs like I did for JERRY GOLDSMITH, BRUCE BROUGHTON, and others.  I most likely have about 25 or 30 of his scores. Wow, what a sad ending to his life...and music.  

 

People will, of course say he died doing what he loved (flying), but I don't think most pilots want to be killed in a horrific plane crash, and would rather die peacefully in thier sleep.

 

James Cameron will be heartbroken, as that is his go to guy. Avatar 2 will be another composer.

 

Man, I hate this. Nobody has heard from him, and his Horner's attorney said he would have called. He's dead.

 

I remember when JERRY GOLDSMITH (my second favorite composer) died. I was shocked, as I didn't know he had been ill. My mother spotted it in the paper, and gave me the obit. I still have it to this day. I'm still hurting on never hearing another Goldsmith score again.

 

No human outside my family will hurt me more than when JOHN WILLIAMS dies (I will truly be crushed, and heartbroken and a part of me will die), but I'm saddened by the death of a really good (when he wanted to be) composer. I just bought one of his expanded CDs reciently, and other just expanded score of his just was released.

 

If Saundra Santiago has been given permission to star in BATTERIES NOT INCLUDED, like she begged Michael Mann to allow her to do it, James Horner would have been the composer for her film, as he did score that picture.

 

I liked his scores for TITANIC, WILLOW, THE ROCKETEER, STAR TREK THE WRATH OF KHAN, ...ah heck, tons of scores he did.

 

This hasn't set in yet, as I'm trying to wrap my head around this one. It hasn't sunk in yet.

 

 

He was one of the really good ones who could actually write music for films, and do it very well.

 

Goodbye James, Your music will live on for me forever.

Sad news, guys. He's been an incredibly talented composer and orchestrator. One of my favorites, along with Alan Silvestri and James Newton Howard.

 

We lost so many talents since the 2000s. Man after man, the XX century is  leaving the scene.

When all of these top A list composers are all gone......who's left to take thier place? There aren't many top composers (who write for orchestra) left that are really, really good. The B list composers will one day be A listers,....and they aren't as good as the composers who have left us. Sad.

 

 

 

RIP JAMES HORNER,...RIP.

Bad news.

 

What makes it even sadder is knowing there will be an empty space when all those great composers from the 70-90s passes. James Horner will surely be missed.

well if this makes you feel any better I know of two good guys in hollywood who can make good scores like in the old days, Michael Giacchino and Ron Jones, both from my knowledge of the trek franchise, and from growing up with the PC games back when trek was in its heyday

 

 

and Rick Berman, your an idiot for firing this man after what he did for the first 3 seasons of TNG, as he fired him for literally trying too hard to make TNG feel like the James Horner scored movies

 

and after his key work in the best of both worlds episode and also his last work on TNG, the Drumhead, yeah its little wonder things started to go down hill from there after his firing, but DS9 was atleast a safe haven for the good writers of the series.

 

and there is an unexpected one worth mentioning

 

as back in the early to late 1990's, and into the early 2000's Steven Spielberg was apparently attached to the medal of honor franchise, and had Michael do the work on it, and well this mixed in with the scenery of Arhnem torn to pieces, well its right up there with any of horners or williams's work

 

 

and then he gets chosen to work on the new trek movies, so while we lost a good man, we still have two great ones out there, we just need the right writers on the next one.

 

 

also I think that game, medal of honor frontline and his score has had abit more of a pull than anyone realizes, as I think it was single handedly the thing that built enough interest to get the Gotha 229, the REAL life batwing that flew during WW2, restored at the national air and space museum, which seems to be coming along nicely since I last heard of this happening

and it also had a throwback to something rather familiar in it

 

 

and it built up my interest in a certain sidearm and a rifle that I now cherish really. so I think those scores are what put him on the map, in addition to all of that.
