I would like to help Vice fans who are visiting Miami by making a list of restaurants and bars that:

  • were used on Miami Vice and are still open (even if under a different name/cuisine)
  • are cool for some other reason (like the view)

Don't forget to check out CGlide's detailed episode location guide:  http://www.miamivicelocations.org/

Used on the show:

  • East Side Pizza - 731 NE 79th St. Miami - http://www.miamieastsidepizza.com/ - where Switek & Zito get burgers and meet Noogie in "Golden Triangle"
  • Osteria - 8001 Biscayne Blvd. Miami - https://www.osteria.miami/ - was Ma-Kao in "Golden Triangle" briefly in Part 1, extensively in Part 2
  • La Libertad - 701 W Flagler St. Miami - coffee stand seen in "Killshot" and "The Big Thaw", apparently now operating without a name (!!!) but still open
  • Dolores but you can call me Lolita - 1000 S Miami Ave. - http://doloreslolita.com/ - formerly Miami Fire Station No. 4, Izzy & Clarence hold the chemist hostage here in "Better Living Through Chemistry"
  • JJ's Diner - 5850 Sunset Dr. Coral Gables - converted into a hotel "Sunset Inn" - seen in "The Home Invaders", "Nobody Lives Forever", and "Rock and a Hard Place"
  • Whiskey Joe's - 3301 Rickenbacker Causeway - https://www.thewhiskeyjoes.com/location/whiskey-joes-miami-key-biscayne-fl/ - once called Yage Bay Club, now managed by the same company that runs the nearby Rusty Pelican - "Yankee Dollar""Walk Alone"
  • Prime Fish - 100 Collins Ave. Miami Beach - https://mylesrestaurantgroup.com/prime-fish/ - the first two scenes of "Red Tape" were filmed in the Hotel Nemo (now the Mercury Hotel) and the lobby area seen in those two scenes is now the Prime Fish Restaurant
  • Mac's Club Deuce - 222 14th St. Miami Beach - http://www.macsclubdeuce.com/ - legendary dive bar seen in "Hard Knocks" and "Freefall"
  • Oh! Mexico Restaurant - 1440 Washington Ave. Miami Beach (at Espanola Way inside the Clay Hotel) - http://ohmexicorestaurant.com - C&T meet Trini Desoto in "Brother's Keeper", Gina & Trudy meet for lunch in "Give a Little, Take a Little"
  • Senor Frog's - 1450 Collins Ave. Miami Beach - NOW CLOSED - formerly Hoffman's Cafeteria/Club Ovo/Warsaw Ballroom - "Made For Each Other" teaser, Sex World in "Little Miss Dangerous""Walk Alone" teaser, Tubbs gets a drink with McIntyre in "Red Tape""Rising Sun of Death"
  • OLA - 2360 Collins Ave. Miami Beach - http://www.olamiami.com/ - the restaurant was seen in Jack of all Trades as Mike's World of Waves pool supply store and the outdoor bar is where Jack & Sonny sit down to have a drink
  • Capri New Style - 940 71st St. Miami Beach - NOW CLOSED - https://caprinewstylemiami.com/- called "Pascal's Pascal" in "Blood and Roses"

Used on the show, exterior only:

  • In "Golden Triangle" they show us the exteriors of a series of restaurants:
  • La Carreta - 3632 SW 8th St. Miami - http://lacarreta.com/ - "Heart of Darkness"
  • The Forge - 432 W 41st St. Miami Beach - http://theforge.com/ (currently closed) - "Brother's Keeper" - seen in the opening montage
  • Andiamo Pizza - 5600 Biscayne Blvd Miami - https://andiamopizzamiami.com/ - Rolls Royce showroom seen in the opening montage

Not used on the show:

So, chime in with your ideas!

AMEN! This place is amazing!

Too bad I didn't start this thread few weeks ago.  When you stopped off to eat on 71st Street in Miami Beach, you were a few blocks from the "Blood and Roses" restaurant and also from one of the restaurants they visit in Golden Triangle.

I will keep adding things to my first post, it is a work in progress.

Awesome! I can't tell you how many instances like this I've discovered since we got back! There are just so many sights to see--it's overwhelming. We were very fortunate to notice as many as we did with our "just whatever we feel like doing" approach to the vacation. We hope to visit again soon.

From Heart of Darkness   La Carreta Restaurant, you see the exterior only, 3632 SW 8th Street, Miami.  Still there and good Cuban and US food.  There is another one on Bird Road in the SW Section.

I'm not adding this to the list, but I want to mention Big Fish Restaurant.  C&T eat there with Duddy in "Lend Me An Ear".  I loved this place, especially for its location right on the Miami River near the OCB, but it has closed down.  It was cool to see huge ships go by and also look at the iconic Miami Tower as you ate.  They have reopened north of the city on the Little River at 620 NE 78th St.  This "river" is little more than a canal, so the atmosphere will naturally be completely different.

[edit]  This restaurant has closed.

I forgot that there is one restaurant in South Beach that's been used:  In "Brother's Keeper", Crockett & Tubbs meet Trini Desoto for lunch at the Clay Hotel on Espanola Way in South Beach.  We also see it  in "Give a Little, Take a Little" when Gina & Trudy meet for lunch.  The current restaurant is called "Oh! Mexico".

What a bummer.  I always loved that Big Fish location, at least as I saw it in Lend Me an Ear.  I love the scene shot there.  Seemed so richly Miami Vice.  And I love how dark Duddy goes when he ponders the downside of the job, if only briefly.  Such a cool location.

I went to Big Fish for the Vice connection and the ambience, but I returned there for the . . . salad dressing?!?!  :)  Seriously, they had an amazing vinaigrette salad dressing.

So it's just a parking lot and a vacant lot now?  What a shameful waste.Otherwise, that looks like a cool area.  I presume it was formerly an industrial area of Miami.

Bing Maps stopped updating their "Birds Eye View" a few years ago, so you can still see Big Fish:  http://binged.it/1P7S3Ab

That little area with the maze of streets is still about the same today as it was during the 1980s.  Check out my latest posts in the locations forum for more about Big Fish's history:  http://miamiviceonline.com/index.php?/topic/12681-miscellaneous-miami-discussions/&page=3#comment-200995

So Whiskey Joe's is now what used to be Horatio's (Yankee Dollar, Walk Alone), right?? We drove right by it on the way to Rusty Pelican. The view of the skyline certainly looked familiar!

Maybe this is common knowledge to the location buffs, but if I'm right this is news to me. We should've gone inside! Another "awe snap" moment--so much to take in!

I don't think anyone has mentioned this classic place yet.  Señor Frog’s, 1450 Collins Ave, Miami Beach.  First Hoffman's Cafeteria, then a mess hall during WWII, then Hoffman's again, the Warsaw Ballroom, Club Ovo, China Club, Rhythm Club, and Jerry’s Famous Deli.  Jerry's was pretty good but haven't been to the new Tex-Mex incarnation yet.  In numerous Vice episodes.

I made a great little 360 degree video inside there last month! I made a couple of other MV location videos, too. I just gotta get those uploaded! :hot:

Señor Frogs has great chicken (in many forms). Great salsa, too.  I ate at their previous Miami location in 2003. I gotta say, it was way better this time sitting in such a sacred place

I just added The Forge restaurant to the list.  I had always considered this to be a major MV location, but as I looked at CGlide's location guide ( http://www.miamivicelocations.org/page73.html ) I learned that it's only seen in the opening montage of the pilot episode and never used again.

How about the restaurant in the Nemo Hotel 100 Collins Ave, Miami Beach.  The Nemo is of course in Red Tape.  The building is now Mercury Condo but the restaurant is supposed to be first class and has retained the name Nemo.

It looks like the Nemo Restaurant closed for good.  Now the spot is occupied by "Prime Fish".  I'll add it to the list.
