Alternative Miami Vice Soundtrack Album

Hello,

what would be your definitive Miami Vice soundtrack album that never was?

I've put together a folder on the SD card that goes into my car radio with an "alternative" Miami Vice album. The idea was to have songs on it, for the most part, that were distinctly not on any of the soundtrack albums, but were very memorable pieces of "Vice" music nonetheless.

So here's my alternative album...  let's call it Miami Vice IV: ;)

The tracks are simply in alphabetical order because I haven't quite figured out how to generate playlists for my radio:

Autograph - Turn Up The Radio

Billy Idol - Don't Need A Gun

Billy Ocean - Caribbean Queen

Bon Jovi - Wanted Dead Or Alive

Bryan Adams - Heat Of The Night

Bryan Ferry - Boys And Girls

Devo - Going Under

Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms

Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Relax

Huey Lewis & The News - Do You Believe In Love

Lindsey Buckingham - Going Insane

Mike and the Mechanics - Par Avion

Mr. Mister - Broken Wings

Phil Collins - In The Air Tonight

Propaganda - P Machinery

Red 7 - Heartbeat

Red Rider - Can't Turn Back

Rolling Stones - Miss You

Russ Ballard - Voices

Ted Nugent - Little Miss Dangerous

The Nobodys - No Guarantees

Tina Turner - What's Love Got To Do With It

Tommy Shaw - Girls With Guns

Yello - Call It Love

Yes, I know,  "In The Air Tonight" was on Miami Vice I... but you simply can't have a definitive collection of Vice songs without it... and "Call it Love" was on Miami Vice III... but I just really like the song...

So what would be YOUR alternative Miami Vice soundtrack album?

If I was to release a complete Miami Vice soundtrack, I would divide it in 5 different volumes, one per season. Volume 1 would begin with episode 1 and continue up to episode 23 and include both Jan Hammers instrumentals and all songs by guest artists/band. I know I have missed some episodes and lots of tunes, but not all of them are favorites, so I end up picking those I like best and makes me think of Miami Vice and the episodes they are taken from.

Wow. I won't even digress on this one. The site might crash :)

Unless anyone seriously wants to read about 29 paragraphs. :)

Nice lists though, guys!

Hey Daytona74, I don't remember 'Broken Wings' by Mr. Mister was used in any Vice episode. It's one of my all time favorites though and it would have fitted perfectly for the show, e.g. for the night driving scene in S4 after Sonny has an argument with Caitlin. The Ward Brothers song they used however is great in that scene too

8. Crockett's Theme - Jan Hammer

9. Can't Turn Back - Red Rider

10. Running on the Rocks - Shriekback

11. Power & Freedom - Iggy Pop

12. Windswept - Bryan Ferry

13. Underneath the Radar - Underworld

Cool thread...couple years back I even burned 3 double disc alternative albums on CD, with covers and all and put them in the car. But some tracks were always missing. There are just too many great songs and preference varies with mood. So these days I just have them all on my SD card and set my car stereo to folder shuffle them.

wow... you're right... I just checked at miamivice.wikia.com ... the song I was thinking of was "Kyrie" by Mr. Mister... which did appear in "One Way Ticket".

I must have gotten those two songs cofused. Easy mistake to make, I guess, because they are both from the same era and were equally popular...

(between the two songs, I think "Broken Wings" does sound more "Vice" like, and would habe been a better fit too in that scene in "One Way Ticket".)

I would love to see an alternative Miami Vice fan edit where all the music from every episode of the show is replaced with this new 80's inspired synth music called New-retrowave. It's been around for 10 years (I discovered it 5 years ago). There are hundreds, if not thousands of indie music artists all over the world who make this stuff. Anyone here on the site who's listened to Peter Guja's work knows exactly what I'm talking about.

This song, for all intents and purposes, IS Crockett's theme:
