Considering buying a white Testarossa!

Well, it has officially been 4 years since I started my Daytona search.  No luck at all (unless Big Sarg wants to sell me his....hint hint ::)

Anyway, I've been kicking around the idea of buying a white TR.  Anybody have any thoughts or know much about these cars?

Did you see this replica Daytona on eBay?

http://m.ebay.com/itm/1986-Ferrari-Daytona-Spyder-/172590819145?hash=item282f36e749%3Ag%3AMaYAAOSw-K9ZMNzB&_trkparms=pageci%3Ad0648571-7ef7-11e7-9138-74dbd180b23c%7Cparentrq%3Ad3e8fb6515d0aa42e449e55effffc0ce%7Ciid%3A2

As far as the Testarossa goes, just remember service costs on one.

I am in no way trying to dissuade you, but sometimes people are surprised at the expense of maintenance and repairs on particular Ferraris.

Whatever you chose, enjoy and please share your experiences and pictures with us pal!

Wait, people are surprised at the service costs on Ferraris??

You can't be serious!

No way!

Fake news!

Sorry if I come off as mean or something...but it's a Ferrari.

The Jag dealer by me had a white TR some time back when they were servicing my car. I talked to one of the sale's guys and he said the car was going for 100K at that time and I asked how much the maintenance on it would be? He said about 10K a year. OUCH! lotta money but if you can afford it.....

Oh I know what you mean Assasinge, but some Ferrari models require removing the engine to change belts, etc. As you can imagine, the further back you go, the more expensive maintenance and repairs are typically.

Check out a 360's major service compared to a Testarossa's. Neither is cheap compared to something like a common Ford or Chevy, but there is a big difference.

But I know what you meant. :)

I've seen that Daytona that Volo has on EBAY in person.  It is AWFUL!!  I mean really bad!    And, yes, I'm painfully aware that maintenance costs on TR's is high :(

Ah...so the Daytona they have is that bad? Pictures on the internet certainly can be made to represent things in a favorable light. I hope you find the Testarossa soon pal.

i'm not an expert, i mean i'm not a car vendor but from what i saw a Testa goes from 80k in good condition, to 120k in exceptional condition. below that line be sure to know what you're buying and above 120k for me it's not good. there were something around 7k Testas produced, so with a bit of patience you'll get what you want.

just came across that one few hours ago. it's from a museum. i think it'll go at around 100-110k. btw if you have a car vendor in your relationship it can help. professionals have access to auctions sites where you can find very interesting deals

I've done a lot of research on TR's over the past year.  Have a pretty good idea as to what they should sell for and what to look for maintenance wise.   The big thing to look for is a recent 'engine out' job.

Really looking for people's thoughts on the car itself.  Is it "cool" or not?  I know this is more of a Daytona crowd.

Personally I LOVE the Daytona.  Would I buy one if I saw a great one?  HELL YES!!

But after 4 years I've seen every replica that has hit the market (many several times).  Most/all were complete junk .

Time to move on from that dream.

Here is a GREAT Testarossa thread!  :

i'm not particulary admirative of vintage cars speculation, but if you buy a Testa you can't go wrong. when you'll sell it you'll do benefits. btw, don't post pics if it's not white :)

I was toying with doing a Pontiac Fiero Testarossa conversion.  If you want the look, this is something to consider.  There are nice kits for a V8 conversion as well.

There is a guy a few blocks away that has a red Testarossa (I think it is real) and this is in rural Iowa.  I happened to snap a pic at the grocery store.

I've never seen a good TR replica. Please share any pics you have seen.

The one above is definitely a real TR.

I agree with the fact that TR replicas do not look good.  I'd buy a nice Daytona replica but not a TR replica.

BTW, I've been negotiating this past week on a white TR.   The deal officially fell thru today.  The seller would not accept my final offer.

Had a Black 87 TR from 89 to 03. In the end it cost me about $1.25 per mile to drive, not including fuel, for maintenance. Engine out services were the big ticket. Last time shortly before I sold it, it was $8K.

Nice! I have seen a red one around my town from time to time. Wondering if that cost per mile would be even higher today as the cost of vintage Ferrari parts may also have risen? I have seen this when searching for the few Ferrari parts that are on my Daytona replica.

How did you like it from a performance standpoint, vs other performance cars you may have driven?
