airtommy
In 1926 the Floridian Hotel was opened on the west side of South Beach facing Biscayne Bay. Before the hotel was built, the property was occupied by an aquarium from 1921-1923. http://miami-history.com/the-aquarium-an-early-miami-beach-tourist-attraction/ The Floridian was partially owned by Al Capone for a time. During World War II it was used as army barracks. It was renamed "Biscaya" in 1959. It was abandoned in 1978 and despite protests from preservationists it was demolished in 1987. airtommy
Our first view of Biscaya on Miami Vice comes in "Little Prince" when they are on Star Island: We see the interior in "Smuggler's Blues" when C&T meet with Castillo and the Feds. The building was long abandoned at the time. Rumor has it that the building was so filthy that they had to clean it up and bring in security for filming. We see the interior again in "Trust Fund Pirates": Edited July 5, 2018 by airtommy
airtommy
Our best view of Biscaya is in "Nobody Lives Forever". We get a brief view at night near the end of "Out Where The Buses Don't Run": And finally we barely see it in "Free Verse" when they storm the estate to free the hostage: Edited July 5, 2018 by airtommy

Dadrian
Thanks. She has come a long way MV-wise in 15 years of hanging out with me. We even exchange quotes sometimes.
Sonny-Burnett
Hm I can't seem to view or even load @airtommy's images. Anyone else having this issue in here? Edit: ran some updates and rebooted ...seems that has solved the issue. Nice pics @airtommy, so this structure is now history? miamijimf
Interesting view of the very exclusive Fisher Island with South Beach in the background. Sharon Gless "Maddie" on Burn Notice lives there.

airtommy
I was watching "Impossible Builds" on PBS and they featured a new skyscraper being built in Miami. http://www.kpbs.org/news/2018/feb/06/impossible-builds/ There is no shortage of condo towers in Miami, but this one is a ground-breaking design. The tower will be supported from the outside with an exoskeleton. It's called the Scorpion Tower or One Thousand Museum and it's located at at Biscayne Blvd & 10th St. It was designed by world famous architect Zaha Hadid, who sadly passed away before the project could be completed. http://1000museum.com/ http://scorpiontower.com/ Edited February 15, 2018 by airtommy

By coincidence, our place is right next to the Long Beach Marine Stadium. It was built for rowing events in the 1932!!! Los Angeles Olympics. It's used for all kinds of events today. Our place is in the lower left of the last photo. I'm really enjoying this thread, Jim! Edited February 17, 2018 by pahonu
