It's called ADR-Automated Dialogue Replacement. When audio is bad or gets cut off during editing the actor is asked to do the damaged sentences again. Often, the actors have left Miami earlier than editors recognize the need for ADR, thus they sent tapes after them. Sometimes, actors are off in remote places and ADR had to be done in creative ways. ADR for Kyra Sedgwick for example had to be done via phone in her hotel in Shenzhen China as she left right after filming for Phil the Shill had been wrapped up. Today that sounds funny but that was the 80s!
