Administrators James Posted February 19, 2018 Administrators Report Share Posted February 19, 2018 I've just come to realisation that I've never taken a photo of my own city of Melbourne, Australia, only places I visit. Does a "home away from home" count? Gold Coast, Australia. "Australia's Miami". Got family there and visit sometimes, so it's sort of a second home. (Yeah I'm cheating a bit, and I'm a terrible photographer)
Dadrian
I didn’t know you We’re Australian, @James! That’s really cool. I’ve always wanted to visit. My dad was in the US Navy, and he’d been to virtually every major city in the world. He always said Hong Kong and Sydney were his favorites. Maybe someday... Meantime, I will forever, from now on, hear your posts in my mind in an Australian accent, just as I imagine @Matt5‘s in a British one. Feel free to imagine mine in a Texas Ranger accent! 2

Haha, I sure am! That's pretty cool, my brothers friend was in the Australian Navy and got to travel around the world also. Let me just tell you - Sydney is somewhat overrated. There are much better cities in Australia, but Sydney just gets all the attention and overseas tourism. When it comes to sports, food, arts, festivals, and such. Pretty much culture in general. Melbourne is where everything is happening, also voted the most liveable city in the world multiple times. I wish I had a usable photo on hand, but I don't. Might have to take one. Just don't imagine me in a Crocodile Dundee or Bogan accent. Most of us inner-city Australian's do not talk like that and always get mistaken for Brits when we're in the US. Texas Ranger accent? For some reason you don't strike me as the type who would have that kind of accent. I've been imagining a generic American accent.
Dadrian
I’ve always wanted to visit Melbourne, too. I love the watch the MotoGP races there on TV. The shots of the city they show during the race are just breathtaking! My wife and I want to do some traveling after the kids are a little bigger. Maybe someday... I lived in Texas for 25 years, and I was raised in the mountains of Tennessee before that. Now I’m in Georgia (all USA for our worldwide members), so my accent is anything but generic. Administrators James Posted February 20, 2018 Administrators Report Share Posted February 20, 2018 Ok, Texas Ranger it is then. Maybe someday, you should definitely come. It really is a beautiful city with a wide variety of things to do, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else (except for Miami). Ah, so you're a MotoGP fan? I'm more an F1 fan, but I do enjoy the MotoGP sometimes. I watch it on TV. Haven't been to the race because it's held on Philip Island which is about a 2 and a half hour drive from the city. The F1 Grand Prix is on next month, or what I like to call "Christmas". "I like to think of the Australian Grand Prix to be a little like Christmas, Rico" This was taken at the Grand Prix a few years ago (couldn't make it last year unfortunately). I live about 5-10 minutes from the park where the race is held, just across the river. Can't think of a better way to show off Melbourne.

BunMVO
I live in southeastern Minnesota near the Twin Cities area. The picture with snow is from January and the greener picture is from a few weeks ago. Sucks living in the Midwest, it feels so lame. I’d like to live on the coast, a place like Miami.

I was born and raised in Michigan. Also spent 10 years in Wisconsin where I meet my wife. I know how you feel especially during the winter months. Got to hate the snow and cold and getting the flu every year. Plus the biting bugs in summer. Yuck. These factors are the reasons why I now live in Nevada.

I mean I'm from Minnesota so I'm used to it, but I do get tired of it. Plus, it gets so ridiculously dry during the winter and my lips and fingers end up looking like a mummy's. Also, the summers can get extremely humid and hot here. We see both extremes. So really, there is no advantage to living here. Although, Minneapolis is pretty cool and parts of the state are beautiful, and some summer and fall days can be especially gorgeous. Summer is my favorite season for obvious reasons - but fall is lovely, when all the leaves turn colors and the weather is in the 50s. I'd love to go explore all over the UK. My grandmother was born long ago (1911) in a small village in Durham County in the north of England. I've never visited, but your photo reminds me of a few pictures I was shown of it when my father visited. Your town looks much bigger though! Her village is called Wolsingham and it has lots of cool old stone buildings. I think it has about 2000 people now and it was even smaller then, I believe. What's your town, if you don't mind me asking? Other family was from Dublin.

I'm sure the guys here who live in Miami are like "same old". Ok maybe not. It's an old mining town called Mountain Ash, My grandma moved here from Dublin during WW2 when she was very young. Funnily enough my mum was planning on visiting Ireland in the near future too so I might join her, Seeing your ancestors homeland is pretty cool.
