Picked it up off Evilbay for $11.00 shipped still sealed. While it’s not the 86 version (molded in black) which I still have since I was a kid, I couldn’t resist the price! Let’s see where this goes! Camera car build? The built one is my original 86 version I got in 86 & has since been rebuilt after it was wrecked sitting in storage over 20 years.

Just had to buy a new 78 Pace car model so I can use the dash, seats & console from it. Looks like this build will be strictly a labor of love. Jagvic’s Daytona build set this project in motion. Now that the Testarossa is done I’m ready for a good custom build.

A complete doner 78’ Corvette Pace Car showed up today so I can get the interior as close as possible but maybe not exact. It’s a shame to have to take these parts out of this kit rendering it somewhat useless.

Here’s the interior out of the 78’ Corvette Pace car. I’ll have to widen the dash as Jagvic did. The seats will also need to be widened but I might use the MV Daytona seats & modify (cut in) the lower to upper seat seams & remove the headrests. Still debating. Consoles have been removed from each car and ready to be grafted into place. Btw.... my wife thinks I’m nuts lol.

the issue you're gonna face with that is that the MPC Corvette kit is 1/25th scale while the Revell Daytona is 1/24th, so the interior tub will be too narrow. I recommend narrowing the Daytona body by 4 millimeters anyway, as it has been modelled after a genuine Ferrari body, which is wider than the McBurnie. McBurnie also had narrowed the body shell to make it fit onto the Corvette chassis. Just compare the gap between the headlighs on a McBurnie and a genuine Daytona for reference. I've bought a donor 1/24th scale Corvette from Monogram, even with that, the interior tub is rather narrow and you need to add styrene strips between the top edge of the doors and the interior AFTER narrowing the body.

I once found this build on the web, I think this guy really got it right, and I will follow these directions if I will ever find the time. Here's also a link to the pictures that are no longer visible in his thread. Unfortunately, it does not show the completed model.

I think I’m going to just leave the MV body and interior tub alone. I’ve slready widened the corvette dash, and cut the tops of both dashboards in preparation for a correct looking MV dashboard. I’ll look through that thread though. Looks cool!

That was a very interesting read Daytona365. Great details there but I don’t think I’m going to that level. Cutting the body like that is too risky possibly damaging the Daytona body. I’m going the Jagvic way. Wish he had completed photos of his Daytona. I’m curious about the exhaust setup he used too. Looks like the Corvette has a dual into single into dual exhaust like the MV Daytona.

So the dash construction is under way. Here you’ll get to see exactly what goes into this custom job. Both dash tops have been removed. The small custom piece laying over the gauges is not finished yet & just sitting over the gauges and will be reworked.

Some dash smoothing & a few coats of white enamel to seal & harden it up. The white is a temporary color of course. Door cards have been removed & sanded flat/smooth for prep of the correct look. I also removed the bump/opening on the front underside belly pan & smoothed it out, and added and shaped the front wheel well flairs. Once again I want to thank Jagvic for paving the way here! I studied his Daytona build a lot (obviously lol) and I was amazed at his work. Now, I’m amazed at mine lol. I want to give credit where it’s due!

Little update here. I found that Bondo Glaze & Spot Putty is an amazing helper in getting the fender flairs, seats & steering wheel done. Easy application and easy sanding! Also, can’t seem to find a Momo Veloce 1/24 1/25 scale so I guess I’ll have to make my own! Funny thing is, I have the real deal Momo Veloce wheel in my Mustang. I’ll throw that photo in here too.

Another interesting tid bit w/ this MV kit... the damn license plate is still wrong! This is the back of my original 86/87 Daytona w/ the incorrect plate ZAO178 (should be ZAQ178) w/ the new decal kit from the 2013 kit. Not sure how this slipped by QC! Lol Also, the original kit says Ferrari on the rear trunk lid. That is missing on the 2013 kit.

We have reached primer & fine sanding stage for the interior. The back side of the seats have also been built up & thickened up. The custom Momo steering wheel is coming along nicely.
