Administrators James Posted February 20, 2018 Administrators Report Share Posted February 20, 2018 Hi all, Thanks to @miamijimf, we are wanting to put some maps together to bring back the filming location maps we used to have on the site. For this we are using https://www.zeemaps.com as it's a quick and easy way of doing it. If you're interested, do the following: *Choose an episode, reply to this thread with which episode you're doing. (So we don't get multiple people doing the same one) *Use C Glides location websites if you need to. http://www.miamivicelocations.org/, http://www.miamivicelocations2.org/, http://www.miamivicelocations3.org/, http://www.miamivicelocations4.org/, http://www.miamivicelocations5.org *Be neat and descriptive. *Once you're done, you can send me a PM with the share link. I will verify it and add it to the website. Below is an example of what it should look like: As you can see, the pins are coloured differently, and each location as a description of the scene. If you have any questions, or need assistance with something, let me know. Thanks!
Dadrian
Since it’s the first episode I ever watched (as a kid—original broadcast), I will do “Stone’s War”.
summer84
I've picked the "No Exit" episode. As a beginner it's easier as there aren't many locations in this episode and also a good way of getting familiar with the street names, buildings, etc. Following all of the key scenes from C Glides location site. Couldn't do without it.
miamijimf
Just finished updating my LMD location map with screen caps, music etc. Easy to use but you must play around with it for a while to get used to it. Added some of Dadrian's music. For those working on creating an episode map, let me know if you have problems. There should be instructions somewhere on the site but haven't found it yet. You can load Youtube videos but if it's not your video, it will be deleted eventually. Click the little arrows upper right to get a text description of each location. Put this in your brower's address window: https://www.zeemaps.com/map?group=984455 Edited February 21, 2018 by miamijimf

summer84
I can't figure out the exact spot where Switek and Zito are located on the drawbridge at SW 2nd Ave. Miami River. Nor the cargo ships exact spot, where the deal/action takes place. If someone could point out the spots from google map please. It says The Ukulele bar is closed permanently and having looked at it's address on google map, it appears that it's no longer there. S&Z are going north on SW 2nd Ave. They stop at the north end of the bridge. The ship is anchored right next to the power plant which is on the river and SW 2nd Ave. Red arrow on CGlide's pic: http://www.miamivicelocations.org/page22.html
miamijimf
Summer it helps if you look at the current location with Google maps. Below is a screenshot from Google maps. The red star is where you first see Swi and Zito at the first gate before the drawbridge. The bridge has been rebuilt again after Vice but you can look at https://www.historicaerials.com/ to maybe get closer to the spot where the drawbridge section began. The blue star is about where the ship is located. Pin-point accuracy is nice but I don't see it as an absolute necessity with Zeemaps. I think really close to the spot would work. Thanks for working on this.
summer84
Thanks for the help, airtommy and miamijimf! I have placed the markers approximately close to the spots. Almost done with the map.
Administrators James Posted February 24, 2018 Author Administrators Report Share Posted February 24, 2018 "No Exit" by @summer84 has now been added to the Location Maps' Season 1 drop-down menu.

Administrators James Posted February 24, 2018 Author Administrators Report Share Posted February 24, 2018 Okay, that's great! I might do Brothers Keeper if I get some free time. Been swamped with projects these past few days though, so I gotta finish those up. I'm multi-tasking as it is.

I'm afraid that at this rate it will take a long time to cover all the episodes in all five seasons. A Zeemap that covers the best known and most visited sites like the Biltmore, Carlyle, Clay, and Clevelander Hotels, the Versace Mansion, Sex World (was Jerry's Famous Deli now Señor Frog’s), and the Cape Florida Lighthouse, etc would be of immediate use to Miami travelers. It would let them plan their route and better use their time. Maybe one of our long time members would volunteer to create such a map. Just a thought. I would but right now I'm having fun creating maps of my favorite episodes.

This thread created by airtommy would be useful for that. To have an instant overview of all of the main locations that were filmed in a certain area. To me it's okay whatever is possible for the location map. Also just wanted to mention, that I added CGlide's link of the episode "No Exit" to the Zeemap. It says website next to the first location pic. I just found out how to view the description on my phone by tapping on the picture once and pulling the picture up at the same time. miamijimf
Good ideas Summer. Just finished Viking Bikers. Could add more sites and add more detail but I think the highlights or key locations should work. Plus it is time consuming. https://www.zeemaps.com/map?group=2906219# Edited February 26, 2018 by miamijimf
Administrators James Posted February 26, 2018 Author Administrators Report Share Posted February 26, 2018 It is indeed very time consuming. And I have discovered that ZeeMaps can be quite annoying sometimes when you're trying to put the locations in order. The first two are fine, but then when I move down to Miami to pin the location for the nightclub interior, it puts it second in the list instead of at the end... You work fast, I'll add a link to Viking Bikers From Hell.
summer84
I had that issue as well regarding the list. You just have to go to the option - map, then settings. Click on list view and next to where it says: Order List by the field, choose "when added." 2
miamijimf
Ya Summer I figured that out also. I found the best way to add a new location is to go to Additions/Add Marker-Simple hit Map Select a location, click on the right spot, then Submit - which creates a new listed location Anonymous. When you select it from the list you can add all the details. Just don't change the location later because of the new address. Sounds complex but easy really.

Not sure I got it....so...everyone is creating an individual map per episode? why don't we just create one consolidated one where all locations are added? or is there a way to display all pins for all eps somehow? and...should we use a naming convention? If I look for maps containing "Miami Vice", this is what I get: DDB Entertainment - Miami Vice - Jul 3 x 4 weeks - LA - Summit Avails Miami Vice Miami Vice - No Exit Key Locations Miami Vice's Viking Bikers from Hell Edited February 26, 2018 by daytona365

Maybe a "best of" map with all the most iconic locations...

Too many locations to list them all and it would take forever. One map of the most iconic, most likely to be visited by first time fans would be useful. The link titled Miami Vice is interesting, some mistakes but lots of time involved. Wonder who did it. He or she is a real fan. Thanks for posting these links. James put me down for Lend Me an Ear. I'm aware it's only the volunteers...I have the interest and I totally dig the idea, that's why I checked out Zeemaps to better understand how to do it. Time may be a limiting factor but I will take a shot at Smuggler's Blues. I still think it would make sense to apply a naming convention, e.g. Miami Vice - S0XEXX - %Title%
