Miami Movie - Deep Throat

It turns out the most famous porn movie of all time Deep Throat - 1972 was filmed in Miami. "Tommy Vercetti" was asking me about some of these locations via PM, so I decided to start a thread. The bulk of the movie was filmed at The Voyager Motel (Biscayne Boulevard & NE 123rd Street, North Miami). But what interests us is the driving scene during the opening credits:Youtube clip of opening credits

At the start, she is driving south on Collins Ave in Miami Beach. I think the first building we see is at about 5700 Collins Ave. Just before it cuts to the shots across Indian Creek at about 0:10, you can see the curved facade of the next (southward) building. That building is shown pretty well about 0:50-1:02.======================================================The house where she parks is an interesting mystery, because they give us enough clues to find it. She crosses a bridge. After the bridge is a house on the right. Before the bridge appears to be a cross street (cars turning right). I looked all around Miami Beach up to 70th but came up empty. Since the house is so plain, it might have since been replaced. I did find this item, which for some reason is not in Google's cache:"... in North Miami was where most of the interior shots for "Deep Throat" was filmed. ..... Morris Cooper (who lived on Pine Tree Drive in Miami Beach). ..."http://www.skyscrapercity.com/archive/index.php/t-290672-p-2.htmlhttp://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=%22pine+tree+drive%22+%22deep+throa t%22&btnG=Search&aq=f&oq=&aqi=She could have conceivably sat at the intersection of La Gorce Circle & Pinetree Lane, then driven south across that bridge and turned right into the first driveway.======================================================Regarding the causeway, I first thought MacArthur, but there are no cruise ships. Maybe it's 79th St and we see the Julia Tuttle (I-195) in the background, or vice versa.

Great stuff airtommy. I still think it's the MacArthur. Don't think there were any cruise ships there in 1972 but I haven't researched it.

I don't remember any of those scenes from the movie, probably because the primary scenes were so dramatic. Anyone see the sequel, "Deep Thought?" The girl has her primary sex organ in her brain and she climaxes when someone reads Plato's Republic to her. :)Not many clues in the bridge scene. Most likely close to known filming sites.

The walk & talk over the bridge is interesting. It looks like there is a road in the background that runs parallel with the canal (perpendicular to the bridge road), and it runs right next to the water. That's very unique. I can only find one such location: the 77th St bridge in Miami Beach near Bayside Ln. But the area doesn't look quite right. Maybe it's changed or maybe this isn't it?

Hi--I discovered this thread the other night when I was surfing the web trying to find out more about some of these DT locations. I guess I was just wondering if anybody had learned anything further. I've done some digging; I believe that the house with the wine celler seen in both the original film and in the 2005 documentary can be found in Coconut Grove, at 3980 Wood Ave., although I have not been able to confirm this. As mentioned in this thread, during the opening credits, it appears that Linda is indeed driving south on Collins Ave., and later she is driving north on Pine Tree Drive (where it is two lanes in both directions. But the other location always associated with DT has been Ft. Lauderdale, and I wonder if that isn't where that house actually is, as Linda seems to suddenly be transported to a somewhat less upscale neighborhood, and it would appear that the filmmakers also used the interior of the house. As noted, the house is on a canal, and the bridge next to the house can be seen again later in the film. The film was backed by "investers" who operated out of Ft. Lauderdale. The problem is, in looking at Google Maps, Ft. Lauderdale has seemingly thousands of canals and small bridges. But, as with the Voyager Motel, somebody originally from the area has got to know something about that neighborhood, and whether that house is still there or not.

I am surprised this movie never turned up during my frat days, but on the other hand, I hate to be a negative Nancy and say that this flick just didn't look that good (frowny face). Interesting that L.L. became part of the anti-pron movement, thanks Wikipedia!

For what it's worth, I think I've found the house. It's been extensively remodeled and looks nothing like it did back in 1972, but there are just too many landmarks that match up to it. I'm trying to get in touch with somebody with the city who can (hopefully) provide me with documentation of the remodel which should help confirm this for me.

The house is at 2616 Aqua Vista Boulevard in Ft. Lauderdale. It underwent a number of major renovations back in 1998 and is basically unrecognizable today as the house from the movie, but the bridge just south of the house has changed suprisingly little. The house is also for sale, so if you should happen to have $1.95 million lying around...

Confirmation for me and the other location sleuths will require watching the video. It is a classic but still considered hard core porn so this could be a problem. Since you obviously have a copy could you record and post the part that shows only the outside of the house and the neighborhood? If you can't do this maybe screen captures? Have a great holiday!

Some of us are really interested in everything filmed in Miami. I'll PM C Glide, who runs Location Trivial Level 2 and is Mr. Location, just to make sure he has seen this thread. Attachments should work fine. I'll look at your find in more detail as soon as I get a chance.

Hank,Ref your find of the house Linda drives to: I looked at the "clean" Youtube video portions of the movie and at Google Earth. Starting at about 3:14 as she is driving across the bridge it looks like a high rise building in the far right background. I see a high rise on Google Earth’s streetview at about the same angle. The houses on the opposite side of the NE 26th Terrace bridge are really different as if the entire neighborhood has been upgraded not just the house. It is definitely the same type of bridge. Comparing Google Earth’s Streetview with the Youtube walk and talk portion of the movie- the bridge sections are identical. This is shown by cracks or small spaces between the bridge sections that were joined together when the bridge was built. The older one story part of the house that is perpendicular to the bridge looks similar to an existing part of the house in DT. In an earlier post you wrote, ". . . there are just too many landmarks that match up to it." What are the landmarks, besides the bridge?Overall I agree with you that the house is at 2616 Aqua Vista Boulevard in Ft. Lauderdale however, the house and neighborhood has changed so much I have asked other "sleuths," who are better at this than I am, to take a look.

Note the rectangular mark on the pole as Linda and Helen walk past. Amazingly, the pole in place today has a very similar mark. (I should mention that it seems the camera used by Google is apparantly shooting photos from a fairly high vantage point.) The biggest eye-opener, however, is the fact that despite the fact that the driveway no longer exits onto NE 26th Terrace, the curb is still cut out where the driveway used to be.

I have just found this on an old site when you could rent the house. The description reads:"What a fabulous location! This home has it all with its great location to downtown Las Olas, the fabulous outside patio area with heated pool, deep water dockage and lovely interior. A famous movie was filmed at this spectacular home with its two levels and balcony area... Bedding consists of 4 Queen beds.. Rental Rates $6,000/Wk or $18,000/Mo ". The address is the same as the one you've given to us & they named it Aqua D'Vista on the site - http://www.clearstay.com/Vacation+Rentals/US-Florida-South+Atlantic+Coast-Fort+Lauderdale/PropertyDetails.aspx?unit=PL-1075-8457#So if it wasn't Deep Throat, then the question would be - what movie was filmed there?

This is further confirmation. If it was a mainstream, "socially acceptable" movie, instead of Deep Throat, why didn't they mention the title?I noticed the cut out curb also, just forgot to mention it in my last post.

Awesome--thanks for the link! Here's a listing for another Deep Throat shooting location: http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/3980-Wood-Ave-Miami-FL-33133/43864184_zpid/ This house, in Coconut Grove, was also seen in the documentary "Inside Deep Throat", although it can't really be seen using Google Earth. I'm not sure how to describe exactly what was filmed there, except that it involved a can of Coca-Cola and Linda Lovelace wearing a nurses uniform.

Good job finding the house on 2616 Aqua Vista Hank. You should enjoy Location Trivia Level Two and especially Calling All Detectives: Group Effort. The cases may look tough but we have found several lately.
