Posted: 11 August 2006 at 5:21pm by MATT5Dan - is the marina where Sonny and Rico are walking with the ex cop Hank Weldon at the edge of the Venetian Causeway behind the Doubletree hotel - they leave a bar "booty " i think then are walking along by boats. Its just that I noticed it on your travel post -link to pictures #Eingefügtes Bildalso the pic " didnt this use to be red " what is relevance to that location and ep.is the parking gargage featured in "When Irish Eyes" from Season 3 - just a guess?!Posted: 12 August 2006 at 5:44am by DanJFirst, I believe the travel post link you're refering to belongs to sredd - I merely posted a reply within. But that's okay - Scott, Jeremy and I were all there a few weeks ago! The three of us, I believe it is safe to say, are agreed that this is the place where Hank, Crockett & Tubbs have a walk & talk as they exit some club - as you mentioned - named "Booty." I don't know if that was the real name of the place or if that was Tugboat Annie's in disguise (RB will have to help us on that one.). But what remains is yeah that was the marina behind the Doubletree Hotel."Didn't use to be red" is refering to the circular, fan-like sculpture in the picture. The ep reference is "Cool Running" and the chase scene in the opening. After the "preliminary meet gone bad" a chase ensues. At various points in that chase the vehicles are seen crossing the Venetian Causeway bridge and along the side of the Miami Herald building. The vantage point of one of the film cameras as it follows the vehicles from the Venetian Causeway is from slightly behind this sculpture, which at the time was painted white, not red. You'll have to do some slo-mo and freeze-frame detective work to see this as it appears semi-clearly in maybe two or three frames as the vehicles leave the Venetian Causeway and speed across the north wall of the Miami Herald.DanJ Posted: 12 August 2006 at 8:33am by airtommy The Ocean Club - Any ideas where this is? There appears to be a pool behind the restaurant. When the assassin runs out the door and gets shot by Sonny, you can see lots of green behind him, as though there is a golf course or lawn. The opening scene - This area must have change since the show was filmed. They pass by the Flambeau Apts. 1126 Ocean Dr., and then immediately after that is a white wall with cars parked behind it and in front of it. It looks like a blocked-off alleyway or parking lot. This looks totally different on satellite now. Also, the beach area looks different. Now there is a strip of vegetation in the beach which wasn't there before. The epic final driving scene - I got that covered like white on rice. I'll map it out in gory detail this weekend. Posted: 12 August 2006 at 8:59pm by airtommy OK, now for one of the best scenes in MV history. Strangely, the final driving scene takes place in Miami Beach. It always looked to me like the downtown Miami expressway system and Biscayne Boulevard. Here is the overview. It starts on MacArthur Causeway eastbound, just before it hits Miami Beach. Then they turn north on Alton Rd., then they go east on 8th St., then they turn south onto Washington Ave, go 3 blocks, then turn back west on 5th. The scene ends after they cross Meridian Ave. It does appear they took the scenic route to get to the house. Eingefügtes BildPosted: 12 August 2006 at 9:04pm by airtommyIt starts with them on MacArthur Causeway, as they go by the traffic light for the exit to Terminal Isle. Eingefügtes BildThey drive up and down the final hill of MacArthur Causeway. Next, they take this exit ramp (driving by a clearly visible road sign that reads Alton Rd. North): Eingefügtes BildSmall blooper: Next, they are shown driving on Alton Rd. proper BEFORE the ramp has fully merged with the road. After some more driving, they turn right from 8th St. eastbound to Washington Ave. southbound. As they turn, you can see a tall spire on top of a building a couple of blocks eastward. I have circled that on this picture. The building I marked with an "X" seems like it would be easily identifiable in person. Eingefügtes BildThe camera follows them 3 blocks south on Washington, then they turn right onto 5th St. westbound. After two short blocks, they drive under an unclear roadsign that reads "Meridian". I have marked Meridian with an "M":Eingefügtes Bild

Posted: 12 August 2006 at 9:28pm by airtommy Final comments: What a stunning scene!1. Great choice of song (Dire Straits - "Brother In Arms"). Not only are the lyrics deeply meaningful to the episode (and somewhat foreshadow the ending), but the melancholy mood of the song is perfect2. Engine revs were mixed in brilliantly.3. The foggy effect on lights (brake lights, traffic lights, etc.) is a really nice touch.4. The part where they turn right from 8th to Washington, go down 3 blocks on Washington, then turn right from Washington to 5th, then go 2 more blocks --- this was all one camera shot. This adds a lot, though I can't really put into words why. Somehow, it makes you feel like you're there. This is cinema at it's finest. Posted: 13 August 2006 at 10:20am by tom71great detective work, airtommy!DanJ: BTW, where is the Tugboat Annies you referred to above located? (AFAIK, there was more than outlet?). Tugboat Annies was the restaurant Crockett and Caitlin ate in "LIke a Hurricane".P.S. the Doubletree mentioned above is the Doubletree Grand Hotel at 1717 North Bayshore Drive at the western end of Venetian Cswy. Posted: 13 August 2006 at 2:37pm by DanJMy memory is hazy as to the exact location of Tugboat Annie's. I know that it was one of the businesses facing the bay at the base of the building just north of the Miami Herald. This is the building pictured in this thread's starting post, with the red sculpture (Originally white) marking the main entrance. What I can't recall is the precise location of Tugboat Annie's within this building.I seem to recall that RB had a picture of Tugboat Annie's somewhere on his web site. I just went digging around over there but couldn't turn it up. RB, if you're reading this, can you help us out here? Posted: 13 August 2006 at 3:35pm by airtommyGoogle says there is/was a Tugboat Annie's Restaurant in Dania (area of Red Tape final scene).Originally posted by DanJI seem to recall that RB had a picture of Tugboat Annie's somewhere on his web site. I just went digging around over there but couldn't turn it up.It wasn't RB. It was the first MV Convention. There is a picture of the closed down Tugboat Annie's on page 2 of their Miami tour.

I was watching about a year or so ago and noticed a sign on the building of a cafe or something( i am at work and do not have the dvd or notes and can't remember the name) and a switchboard.com search at the time only turned up one hit which was in the park. Note how high the bridge is then the giveaway is the building in the bg with the blue neon like lights outlining the roof line. This is north of the causeway or I should say was since it is no longer but you can reference it in the teaser to lombard where it is again visible in the bg as they pull up to lombards boat to serve him papers. As thet approach lomabard's boat docked on the west end of watson island they approach from the north driving south and stop near his boat on their right. The building with blue lights is in bg north of bridge. The shot just immediately after the blooper shot of them northbound on Alton Rd from before the end of the ramp. This shot is US1 just north of the studio with the int. house of pancakes in the bg. Looks like a recycled shotThe next cut is the only unknown cut. I think it maybe Collins just north of 5th. I will have to go back and look at the Pilot episode to confirm.

Airtommy, DanJ, and I took a boat cruise last Wednesday. We cruised around Biscayne Bay, Key Biscayne, the Coral Gables DeepWaterway, the Miami River, and the Sunset Islands. One of the highlights of the trip was a cruise by the Stiltsville Houses. No one lives there anymore and they are owned by the National Park Service. Seven houses still exist. Several that were seen in Out Where The Busses Don’t Run are still standing. Here is a photo I took of one of these houses:Eingefügtes Bild It matches the house seen in the episode on Hulu at 34:40. (I frequently use Hulu to reduce wear and tear on the DVDs) Check the slope of the roof's corners. The house you just get a glimse of on the right at 31:53 is the house on the right in this photo:Eingefügtes BildThe house at 32:02 looks like my next photo:Eingefügtes BildI believe the pink house where the bad guys are shot and captured is gone. Airtommy is pretty sure I’m correct about these houses. He provided a link to an official map. Each house has a name and a letter. You can click on the letter to see the house.http://www.stiltsville.org/pages/housesmap.htmlAirtommy thinks the pink house was in the triangle between C, E, and F. His assessment also indicates that Castillo, Crockett, etc were in House E shown below.Eingefügtes BildThese houses are a unique and valuable part of Miami’s past. They are safe from demolition, at least for now. Tours to Stiltsville are available but landing on them requires special permission. Seeing them up close was a real experience and we are already discussing a return trip. Standing on House E would be a real treat. Here are links to other sites about Stiltsvillehttp://www.nps.gov/bisc/historyculture/stiltsville.htmhttp://www.key-biscayne.com/kb/stiltsville/index.shtmlhttp://www.stiltsvilletrust.org/pages/stiltsville_miami_fl_biscayne_bay.htmlWatching Out Where I noticed that Zito is looking out the wrong end of the binoculars :-)

AirTommy and Jim, that boat trip was by far the coolest Vice thing I have done to date. What a neat, historical Miami location that is! Thanks for inviting me to join you on this outing, and I hope we do something like that again! Next time, I for one definitely want to set foot on the MV house!I concur with the above summation of the Stiltsville houses as seen in MV. Also, Stiltsville appears in Bad Boys II and back in the early '60's the A-Frame house was used in some water film whose title escapes me as I write this.Yo SoFlaJeremy, we missed you on this trip - hope you can join us next time!

Those houses are so cool!!!What would the depth of the water be there? Are they built on a sandbar of sorts? They seem to be quite a ways offshore! You said the Parks owns them now. Would these all be condemed now?Sounds like you guys had a ball? Wish I could have been there. In fact, wouldn't it have been cool if we took my boat on that tour? :)More info please...

In many places it is only 2-3 feet deep. Any place that a medium-sized or larger boat wants to go has to be dredged. Whenever they dredged a channel, they dumped the sand somewhere in the bay and created an island. That is how places like Star Island came to be. I don't know enough about boating to know what size boat can go everywhere. Obviously, as we saw in the MV scene some speedboats can go right up to the houses.Touring Biscayne Bay in a MV Stinger or Scarab would be priceless ...

I just found what was an unknown location from the driving scene near the end of the episode. When they drive by Cobas, the furniture store, and the Pantry Pride. This was Collins Ave. southbound passsing 6th Street. Don't know how I missed it before. I guess I thought the pantry pride's appearance did not match up with how we saw it in Brother's Keeper. I have updated my site to reflect the new info.

The first photo is a rare shot I found on the internet of a now gone Stiltsville house. It is the only photo I have ever seen of this three story house. The second photo is a screen cap from Out Where the Busses Don't Run. It is the first Stiltsville house you see in the episode and looks like a different view of the same house.
