A small businessman on a radio talk show said it cost him 15% to pay for each employee's health insurance. If he drops their coverage, he only has to pay an 8% fine. So he'll be saving 7% :pWhy should insurance companies cover pre-existing medical conditions? If you want to insure your car and the right side is all smashed in, do you think Geico will cover your banged up car or just the next accident  :D

Coop' date=' in Germany one is forced to buy a health care insurance. When I got my new job, I was first asked to bring the copy of my health insurance. Otherwise, I wouldn´t have gotten the job. Even my daughter had to prove that she was insured before starting her studies. We, too, have to pay for many people who get health care benefits, but have never paid a cent. I´m very far from being a racist, but I always get steamed when I hear that people who immigrate to Germany bring their relatives with them (preferred their old parents, but sometimes uncles and aunts). These retired people get pension here and profit from the German health care system and other benefits.[/quote']I certainly understand how you feel. It just doesn't seem right. Are you sent to prison if you don't pay for health care?

It establishes the toughest patient protections in history. It guarantees all Americans affordable health insurance options, extending coverage to 32 million who are currently uninsured. And it reduces the cost of care -- cutting over 1 trillion dollars from the federal deficit over the next two decades. To ensure a successful, stable transition, many of these changes will phase into full effect over the next several years. But for millions of Americans, many of the benefits of reform will begin this year -- some even taking effect this afternoon. Here are just a few examples:Small businesses will receive significant tax cuts, this year, to help them afford health coverage for all their employees.Seniors will receive a rebate to reduce drug costs not yet covered under Medicare.Young people will be allowed coverage under their parents' plan until the age of 26.Early retirees will receive help to reduce premium costs.Children will be protected against discrimination on the basis of medical history.Uninsured Americans with pre-existing conditions can join a special high-risk pool to get the coverage they need, starting in just 90 days.Insured Americans will be protected from seeing their insurance revoked when they get sick, or facing restrictive annual limits on the care they receive. All Americans will benefit from significant new investments to train primary care doctors, nurses, and public health professionals, and the creation of state-level consumer assistance programs to help all patients understand and defend our new rights.

As one congressmen said, if this were true, we'd buy health care for everyone in China, and completely eliminate our National debt. The Government is never right on it's numbers. Everything it touches fails. Our freedom of choice is now gone.

What concerns me here is the fact that what our government controls, fails as in facing bankruptcy. Post office, Medicare, and social security. Not sure on the military yet would never be posted if it was or what-ever...Our government here in the states struggled with Cash-For-Clunkers...How could you mess that up? Yet, it feels the need to tangle-up the healthcare system? Gives the new something new to talk about...On a happier note..Sandra Bullock is on the market...Recently. Please, let me have just this one thing...Pleeease!!:dance::happy::happy::happy:...LOL...MIke

Last year, it lost (in one year) 3.8 billion dollars, despite 6 billion dollar cost cutting moves. The private businesses like UPS and FED EX are doing just fine. The Private sector works, Government programs are failing. We can't afford this.By the way, Saudra Bullok is a cutie! You deserve her ICEMANMIKE. Of course not, but, for us, paying for our health care is as normal as brushing our teeth. We don´t think about it.

Are you sent to prison if you don't pay for health care?

I've noticed some members from other countries have chimed in on this. The MAJORITY of Americans in every poll shows that we don't want this as a nation. I thought as a democracy' date=' the leaders of the U.S. do the will of the people, not inforce things that the majority don't want. [/quote']But who are THE PEOPLE? In my opinion in a real democracy there is also solidarity. Not everybody has a real choice due to circumstances. (and most of the time that is not the majority!) In my country people also complain that they pay too much taxes and yes, there can be economized on many things. But I also think we should care a little bit more about other people and shouldn’t become a dictatorship of the ones that have the best filled purses…

If I balanced my checkbook the way they fudged the numbers on this' date=' I'd be in jail. They're cutting $500 Billion dollars from Medicare to "save" medicare, but also count those savings against the cost of the total health care bill. You can't count the same money twice. Also, they don't include about 200 Billion to pay doctors their share of medicare. They're passing that as a separate bill instead. Also, the bulk of the benefits don't kick in until 2014, but the taxes, fees, etc, start now. you get 10 years of revenue flowing to the gov't, but only 6 years of actual benefits. That also artificially keeps the cost down. All this was done to keep the cost under 1 Trillion dollars.
As one congressmen said' date=' if this were true, we'd buy health care for everyone in China, and completely eliminate our National debt. The Government is never right on it's numbers. Everything it touches fails. Our freedom of choice is now gone.[/quote']Ditto. We're able to keep our insurance so long as it meets government standards. If it doesn't, one of the newly minted 15,000 IRS agents will be checking in with you.

Also, we don't have a "democracy" in the USA. Democracy is mob rule. For example, let's say there's 3 women and 2 men stranded on a desert island. The men vote to have sex with the women and the women vote no. The women lose because they got out-voted in a "democracy." We have a Representative Republic. If our representatives aren't representing us (they aren't now), then they get booted out of office. That's why approval ratings of congress is at an all-time low of 17%.

It will extend coverage to 32 million uninsured Americans and reduce federal budget deficits by $143 billion in the coming decade. The package includes a provision to dramatically expand community health centers that provide primary care, dental care, mental health counseling and low-cost prescription drugs for 20 million Americans. The health center expansion will save taxpayers billions of dollars by treating more people before they get sicker and need to be hospitalized. Millions of workers, families, seniors, small business owners stand to benefit from lower health care costs, improved coverage and strong consumer protections. What Health Care Reform Means for You Today? No Denials for Pre-Existing Conditions Insurers may no longer exclude individuals under 19 years old with pre-existing medical conditions. The age limit increases over time. By 2014, people with pre-existing conditions could no longer be denied insurance.More Young Adults Insured Parents will be allowed to keep their children on their health insurance plan until age 26.Broader Coverage Within 90 days, people who have been locked out of the insurance market because of a pre-existing condition would be eligible for coverage.Insurance Stability All insurance plans will be barred from imposing lifetime caps on coverage. Insurers can no longer cancel insurance retroactively except for outright fraud.Prescription Drugs The 4 million Medicare beneficiaries with prescription drug bills so high they are not fully covered will get a $250 rebate this year. Next year, charges will be cut in half for seniors who fall into the Medicare coverage gap known as the doughnut hole.Tax Credits for Small Businesses Small business owners will no longer be forced to choose between offering health care and hiring new employees. Tax credits of up to 35 percent of premiums will help them insure their employees.Holding Down Premiums Insurers must report how much they spend on medical care versus administrative costs, a step that later will be followed by tighter government review of premium increases.

Another reason I don't like this bill is that my employer, who has for 23 years given me the very best health insurance that is obtainable, will be fined (punished) for doing this now, and have been informed, the fines will increase to the point that my employer can't afford to give us the world class health insurance we were getting, and eventually will have to drop the insurance, were we will then be forced to buy the Government plan. The Government's plan is to eventually put everyone on Government insurance, by not leaving good buisnesses alone, but financially forcing them to drop employees, making sure that you are on the Government plan. It's the ultimate plan to make sure that the more you are dependent of big Government, you will need them more, thus keeping them in power longer. That, is socialism....not freedom to choose.

That's a very interesting thread. Thank you for posting it.We know it will cost more than the Govt. tells you it will.
Ditto. I read a related forum that has all the info you need (and then some):http://www.realclearpolitics.comAs for the 'costs"' date=' these are mere projections. Just because something is projected to happen (i.e. Kansas winning the NCAA tournament. How's your bracket?) doesn't mean it's going to happen as projected. Also, this is about control. Listen to this US Democrat congressman in a radio interview just last night:

I heard that radio interview. He let it slip.Anger is growing across the nation.Roughly half the nation is paying for the other half that doesn't.The shame of it all is, it won't become evident for many years when it will show it is not self supporting, like all the other big Goverment programs that are proving to fail and are nearly bankrupt (social security, medicare, U.S. postal system etc. etc. etc.).What happens when health care, and everything else goes bankrupt? What happens then?
