LAST SMALL LOCATION FOUND: PRESS CONFERENCE, EDWARDS APARTMENTS 953 COLLINS AVE

This is a small last location in this ep that turned up to be unsolved and is not a studio set. The unique shaped window at the right gave its location away. We will see that location again in Mirror Image. It´s the Edwards apartments.

The windows match

  • in shape (round top)
  • quite thick vertical dividers after approx. 1/4 of the width
  • very thin horizontal dividers in between

These windows are very rare and usually not existent within SoBe Art Deco district buildings where 90% of that episode was filmed. The upper round parts were patched over, otherwise it looks the same like on TV.

No new location find, as we have found all locations in this episode. But I found great old pictures of the long gone Six Flags Atlantis park (1983-1992) that show clearly where the girl find scene at the lake was filmed that was found before and also the Mattahorn scenes. The huge lake to the east of the park was filled up after the park was closed in 1993.

The park map is from the opening in 1983, thus the Mattahorn ride where Delgado was caught and the amusement park/arcades that we see in the episode are not there yet (the Mattahorn was moved 1986 from another Six Flags park to Florida; in general the park was heavily losing money, so they added non-water attractions later on to generate more profit and Six Flags sold the park in summer 1988 to an investor who re-opened the park in a smaller more profitable version until its demolition by Hurricane Andrew),  but we can now clearly see how big the park was and what exactly its stretch was. The parking lot on the northern end (Stirling Road) was nearly as big as the park itself and the map was strangely drawn looking to the south instead of to the north, thus I flipped the map and made it transparent for you guys over the 1980 historic aerial to see it best. (we have no 1986 aerial of that area and on 1995 aerial the park is gone already and a shopping mall built on the lot).

The Mattahorn ride where Delgado was caught was added in late 1986 after being moved from another Six Flags park. We can exactly pinpoint its location even on the 1983 park map, as the episode shows us that the Mattahorn was next to the raft rental site (that´s what the yellow rafts were for that we see in the episode; the rafts were needed for the water raft and the Mattahorn and other non-water attractions did not need the rafts of course).

Most of the pictures are from the construction in 1983. The pictures showing the park in operation are pointing north or northeast.

ENJOY!

@daytona365 @airtommy@miamijimf@Dadrian@C Glide @Matt5

Historic aerials has just added a new satellite 1984-issue for Miami and also up to Broward County!

So far we had only a 1986 black/white satellite for Miami, 1980 and 1994 issues were so blurry that they are unusable.

The new 1984 satellite is in color and a bit blurry, but much better than the 80/94 issues.

Applied on the Six Flags waterpark used in this episode (that was beyond the reach of the 1986 satellite that stopped at the Dade/Broward County Line) we see the result below. As Six Flags was only open from 1983-1992 this is the only satellite we have. The red marks on the second zoom pic shows where VICE filmed (left is the crooked roof of the arcade, the red arrow points at the rounded lakeshore where the girl was found.
