Episode #37 "Little Miss Dangerous"

I've seen this a couple of times over the last couple of years and I'm not sure my view's changed that much. Sure LMD is very pretty but just can't quite see Rico's involvement as the 'father-figure' as plausible. What I think is a more interesting question - and one we'll never know the answer to - is whether or not Rico was fooling himself into believing he was playing the caring father-figure type, whereas his real feelings for LMD were something else altogether. There are a few verses from an old song I've loved for years that kind of explain what I mean - although the sex at which they are directed was always gloriously ambiguous:"I know you think that you're safeMisterHarmless deceptionThat keeps love at bayIt's the ones who resist that we most want to kissWouldn't you say?"Was Rico deceiving himself? Some of his behaviour would suggest so.But just a bit of a 'messy' ep really - not enough there to argue the plot and characters interaction is consistent to the level we usually expect from MV - found LMD's lover's stomp through town at night particularly annoying.Imagine you were Sonny when you came bursting through that door of the safe-house at the end though - until Rico confirmed that LMD had cuffed him to the bed, wouldn't you have wondered exactly what games Rico had been playing with her, and exactly how much of it was involuntary?! Don't forget, Rico had already overstepped the line a little - you get that feeling not just from Sonny's expressions throughout the ep, but also from Castillo's line: 'Do your socialising on the outside'.I think overall this is slightly below my expectations of MV so if I'm being generous I can't give this more than 6 out of 10.

Here we go with one of the all time greats. This episode is simply awesome. I cannot rate this ep highly enough. It's one of my favourites. One of those eps you can watch over and over and never get bored of. The whole ep was really compelling and just an all round great episode. When season 2 managed to match the style with a strong story the results were dynamite. This ep was a real departure for MV as it was so dark, sleazy, murky. But this was completely original and paved the way for the stylistically similar Death & The Lady (another classic). The production design, artwork, colour schemes and the fact that it was mostly filmed at night all added enormously to the mood and effectiveness of the episode. Fantastic location work. It was great how they converted the Jerry's Famous Deli building on Collins Avenue into Sex World. I liked the explosion scene where Il Villagio now stands. You could see there wasn't any nightlife on Ocean Drive back in those days, not like today. Everyone did a great job in this episode. Excellently helmed by Leon Ichaso. This was his best directorial job on the show. Frank Military also did a superb job writing it. The script was excellent and very well written. He was responsible for two of the best storylines in season 2, Little Miss Dangerous and Buddies. Excellent performance by Tubbs, one of PMT's best performances on the show. I really believed Tubbs' affection for Jackie. Fiona gave an excellent performance, and she's a real hottie too. Larry Joshua was also excellent as Cat.The ending with the PiL song 'The Order of Death' was awesome. Flawless song choice that perfectly matched the very tense ending. The only thing I'd change about this ep is the title song as I'm not a fan of Nugent. They should've used Billy Idol's 'Flesh For Fantasy' for the opening sequence. I always watch the opening while listening to that song. It matches the intro so perfectly it's like it was written especially for it. I'd also would've used 'Temptation' by Heaven 17 in the sequence where Crockett and Tubbs are watching Cat on stage and when Jackie claims another victim. I noticed a continuity error in this ep. When Crockett and Tubbs were questioning Cat their clothes were different from when they arrested him. What happened there?Overall, the best episode of season two IMO and a top 5 favourite of mine. 10/10

By the way, what's going on with OCB in this ep? Are they using completely new rooms or floors in that building or what? I don't think I recognised several of the shots of the scenes at OCB this time?

This is a top notch episode, one that most certainly makes my top 10 episodes of the whole series. A change in theme for Season 2, this episode is much darker, and although it isn't gleaming with traditional vice style, its darker styles are immense, the neon colours, the wet roads at night... very nicely filmed episode. Another reason why this is a fantastic episode is Hammer's score, definitely one of his best. The music fits the atmosphere and mood perfectly. Additionally, the Public Image LTD song is perfect for the ending and I enjoy the other music used too; I do agree with Vercetti though that Flesh for Fantasy would be a good song choice for the intro scene, great song which isn't used too much in the Rising Sun Of Death. Anyway, what about the story in this episode? It's original for vice, no drug dealers for starters!!! The way Rico screws over Jackie is interesting, because he's just trying to be her friend but she wants more. He plays her a bit too much and was out of line, as RID has mentioned. I almost feel sorry for her, screwed up life, rico screwing her around...but then again she's a pysco path. She's quite hot too, one of the hotter Vice babes IMO. So anyway, top notch music, style, story, acting...its interesting to watch, I view it many times. Don't think it deserves quite a 10 for my personnel ratings, but Im gonna give it 9.5/10, rounded up to 10 for the poll.

Additionally, Fiona couldn't have found the OCB so they couldn't have filmed there as that scene where she turns up needed to take place. That all said, I watched Big Thaw recently and randomly all those Jamaicans managed to get in the OCB...

I really couldn't care less about this episode, I didn't find it that interesting, it seems a bit too out there after seeing the past episodes and it feels more like it should be in season five, I give it 6 out of 10 as well, just an episode I couldn't care less for.

I gave it a nine....Classic episode...Refreshing not to have a drug deal as mentioned earlier and yep, Fiona is a cutie here as also discussed...Great acting and I also like the 'wet scenes' thru-out...I also wondered about the instant wardrobe change....Once again, good call Tommy!! Classic season 2...Mike

'Assault and Battery' scene is the highlight of the episode. Main emphasis throughout is off and away from Sonny and Rico and its refreshing to see the two guests stars take the helm. Filmed mostly at night too so quite original. I gave it a 10

Although, porn & sleaze rubs me the wrong way, "Little Miss Dangerous" was always one of my favorite episodes! I was amazed at the true love & caring her boyfriend had for her. Even after he knew for sure she was the killer, he still loved her. I was also impressed by Rico's fervor in trying to help LMD. The music is great and the ending really was a clifhanger. I thought Tubbs was going to get killed but it was a sad ending anyway. Very dark episode but it fits the subject matter. It deserves a 10 !

Originally posted June 2006This is another one of my favorite episodes. From the start when Ted Nugent’s song Little Miss Dangerous begins playing and they show Sex World and the surrounding street life to the end of this episode It grabs my attention and keeps it. The song Little Miss Dangerous is a great song to describe not only the act that is being played on stage, but Jackie herself. I noticed that in the act there is fire about. It’s mentioned in the song Little Miss Dangerous (She’s on fire), and of course Jackie’s famous Crayon drawings are accompanied by some sort of fire from the fire in the wastebasket with the sailor, the fire and explosion of the car to the fire she builds at the safe house before she shoots herself. She certainly has a little girl’s face, but she definitely has a woman’s body. I thought that Rico was a little out of character in this one. He’s usually not taken in so badly as he was with Jackie. Even Crockett saw her as a woman in a mini dress. Tubbs saw her as a lost little girl. I loved Sonny’s interaction with the street people on this one. It seemed obvious that the street walker he was talking to knew he was a cop, and yet she trusted him enough to tell him that the hookers were hurting because their ‘dates’ were afraid to come down here. Sonny’s talking to the Bag lady was good too. He and Gina were so patient with her and able to get her back on the topic. Once again Gina and Crockett have that special connection She calls him, and then complains good naturedly that he never bought her a beer that easily, and Sonny replies You never asked. I thought Sonny’s comment about Cat’s hair not being blonde was funny and ironic. Crockett has been described as sandy blonde hair, but most of the time his hair doesn’t look blonde unless the sun hits it just right. Cat was an interesting character. It’s obvious he’s used to getting by doing what he can, but it looks like he has some standards. He really cares for Jackie, and Sonny acknowledges this by realizing that Cat does really love her. Cat is very earnest in saying he did the best he could for her. He was also very protective of her even though he knew she was killing her johns, but for him it didn’t matter because he loved her. He clearly didn’t trust Tubbs probably because he never met anyone who didn’t want something, so he attributed Tubbs interest to a sexual one which was the only relationship he could comprehend a man would want from Jackie. Sonny’s reaction when he realized Jackie was the slasher was classic. He gets on his car phone and calls everybody in. I wonder if Cat had let Crockett shoot off the lock if they could have stopped Jackie from killing herself. To me it looked like the slight delay by Crockett having to get out of the way and Cat knocking down the door and preventing Crockett from running inside gave Jackie just enough time to finish the deed. The song playing at the time is kind of ironic. Yes Jackie wanted real love but she felt she had to kill herself for it, Tubbs wanted to save her, but he didn’t get what he wanted Cat wanted Jackie but he didn’t get her, Crockett didn’t want her or Tubbs to die he wanted the collar, he didn’t get it either. I rate this a very strong 9 Again the whole OCB gang was working on the same case and were seen interacting with each other at times.7/7/2009 - I watched this one again last Saturday (July 4). I haven't really changed my mind about this episode, and as I was watching it, the original points came to mind. I really do like this episode, of course I may be biased because it has Sex world in it That one sign has now transcended three series, Miami Vice of course, QL's "killin' Time', and of course when the neon sign of the lips was in Michael Weston's apartment in Burn Notice :-)

Completely agree. It was the best scene. Also what you said about the episode being filmed mainly at night is interesting. Another example of Michael Mann's Film Noir fixation I think.

Being as Ted Nugent has a thing for... how shall I say this... "ladies of youth", it does not come as a surprise where he got the dodgy lyrics to "Little Miss Dangerous" from.I never saw this episode until about '94 as it was one of the episodes shelved by the BBC during Vice's original UK airing, following the Hungerford Massacre.I love the direction involved when Tubbs follows Cat into the Anchor Hotel and then walks upstairs onto the roof. The camera slowly pans upwards and and stops just in the right place as Tubbs reappears. Again, great Vice timing. Reminded me of DJ's direction of the nightclub scene in "Hostile Takeover" where the camera begins on the landing and then slowly descends downwards onto the dancefloor.I like how Castillo walks past just at the wrong moment, when it looks like Tubbs is arranging a secret rendezvous with a prostitute!I thought it was stretching reality a bit though when in all of Miami, it just happened to be Switek and Zito who found that burning car. It would have been more realistic if a patrol car had investigated the scene. I got the feeling that this was a way of saving money by not having to pay a couple of extras to play uniformed cops.To elaborate on what RID was saying earlier, I think that there was a deliberate ambiguity set up throughout the episode in order to hook the viewer into the question of whether or not Tubbs fancied this girl, or he was just being kind and helpful to someone he sypathised with who had no-one else in her life. Ambiguous storylines (especially ones which call into question the morality and integrity of the characters) are classic television techniques designed to seduce the viewer into getting hooked into watching, if only in the hope to try and establish what exactly is going on. They did the same thing in "Red Tape" (i.e has Tubbs gone dirty or is he just setting up MacIntyre?), and also the final two episodes of Season 4 (Has Crockett gone off the rails or not?), which was a deliberate cliffhanger in order to hook the viewer into tuning in for Season 5. If you notice in "Little Miss Dangerous", by the time we find out that Tubbs is just being a good guy during his final conversation with Jackie, the hook is no longer needed as it is then immediately replaced by another one, i.e "Jackie's going to try and kill Tubbs, how's he going to get out of this one?".You can't blame Jackie for being confused though, when Tubbs tells her that he just wants to be her friend, then immediately tells her that he loves her too. That's like what some of the women I've dated have come out with!I loved the dialogue between C+T about psychiatry... "you wanna go halves on a couch?"... "Only if I can go to sleep on it".Again, I love the timing when Crockett bursts into Cat and Jackie's apartment. Notice how as he flashes his gun from side to side, Jan's music hits a note in exactly the same places!I also loved the inclusion of a Public Image Limited song in Vice. It wasn't until fairly recently that I discovered that it was Public Image Limited. I never thought I would ever hear Johnny Rotten's voice in Miami Vice! All in all another solid Season 2 episode. 8 out of 10.

I can tell you exactly from memory...Little Miss Dangerous. When Irish eyes are crying.Trust fund pirates.Viking Bikers from hell.El Viejo.Down for the count (both parts). The papers said that the BBC "shelved" 12 episodes, but not surprisingly for the tabloids, that was just another exaggeration.

I tried again to like this ep as much as you all do, but it just doesn't do it for me. The "Assault and Battery" sequence is pretty cool (though the steam vent opening up on Larry Joshua's face was a little over-the-top). But there's just not much happening here with the main Vice regulars. Crockett's part could've been phoned in and the writers have Tubbs acting nothing like an experienced detective. His mishandling of jackie's emotions is stupid. Giving her free reign at the safehouse, with no supervision, is stupid. Cat attempting to drive his cycle through the door is like something out of the A-Team or Knight Rider.Add the fact that we know from the first scene who the ripper is, and this one is mostly a big yawner for me.

Think of MV and this is one of the episodes that defines the show for me. When this episode first aired, I remembered Cat being a bad guy which he obviously isn't after watching this again. And Jackie...wow. There's something about her character which I find attractive. Great scences throughout the movie and shows off Sonny and Rico's softer side. Rico being a father figure to Jackie and Sonny being nice to that bag lady on the street. I've read PMT is an advocate of healthy living and this appears to have showed a little in his character when he brought Jackie a bag of fresh fruit. Very good episode and I give it a 9.

I just barely rate this story with an 8. It wasn't as suspenseful throughout as other eps, but the case of finding the murderer kept it involving.

i give this episode an 8. it has all the right elements for an intriguing and disturbing story...it just seems to fall a bit short somehow, and i'm not really sure why. still, it's an entertaining episode nonetheless, and ted nugent's "little miss dangerous" only helps, as does the final track, "the order of death" by public image ltd.

This is not only one of my favorites of 2nd season...but one of my all time favorites of the series! The plot was wild, the filming locations were superb, the "dark" gritty feel of a lot of the episode being at night was sizzling in a different but awesome way, and Ted Nugent's song Little Miss Dangerous was chillingly perfect!! :clap:But, Fiona "made" this episode! Talk about a sexy but lovable femme fatale! Yes, she was sexy and young, but she was also very deadly--and a sociopathic serial killer...yet you still found yourself caring for her and wanting to just hug her, and help her anyway you could. My degrees are in sociology and psychology--so the "Jackie" character and her bizarre life (and possible reasons why she's like she is) just captivated me!I did kind of feel sorry for Jackie's loser boyfriend, as he did really love her and want to help her. As for Rico and Jackie's relationship...I totally understand why he wanted to help her and something about her just caught his attention--as he realized she was different than all the other hookers walking the street. But, he did put himself into some "interesting" situations with her, and allowed some things to go a little too far. But, even Jackie realized at the end that Tubbs really did care about her and want to help her...he wasn't just looking for sex. But, tragically it was not enough to save her. The ending was what I call another famous Michael Mann "abrupt-stop." The chanting-like song at the very end as Jackie kills herself was also very chilling and haunting.I can watch this over and over, and hardly get tired of it. It was just one of those special ones that were memorable and superb--I gave it a 10!
