Calling all Detectives: Group effort

Great work. I am not 100% sure the overhang does not wrap around. I will take another look noting that there is a security cover that goes over the window when the business is closed. In our picks the business is open so the cover is elevated and attached to the overhang and could be confused with the overhang.

I communicated with a lady on Facebook who says she worked on the set of several Vice episodes and was there the night they filmed some of the scenes from HOD. She is pretty sure the "Blue Dolphin Lounge" was really the Tin Lizzie Restaurant (12500 Biscayne Blvd)' date=' and now gone, that was across from Pumpernik's. She also wrote: "I AM 100% certain that the shot of Crocket & Tubbs sitting in the car in the parking lot was the parking lot on the north side of the Tin Lizzie . . . I was there!!!" In reference to the scene where C&T meet Artie and the Porno gurus in a restaurant she wrote, "Also I'm 95% certain that the interior scene with the waiters and the girls dressed in white cocktail dresses was the scene they filmed inside the Tin Lizzie." This info, coupled with other info she provided, makes her sound like a reliable source.Charlie, check your email.[/quote']Here are two screen captures where I lightened the shadows to help id the Blue Dolphin. I see a parking garage in the bg that is large, Omni Hotel sized. I do not see pumpernik's.Eingefügtes BildEingefügtes Bild

Ya it doesn't look good for the old Tin Lizzie (now occupied by Boston Market) being the establishing shot for the Blue Dolphin Lounge. I looked at the area on Google Maps and didn't see a building anything like the one that shows up in your enhanced photo. That area is a little too far from downtown to need a multi-level parking garage or high rise. However the lady is right about the parking lot being used in HOD and is therefore probably right about the interior of the Tin Lizzie being used for the meeting with C&T, Artie, and all. We know that the end scene of HOD where Tubbs gets in the limo with Artie and Kovics and his wire malfunctions started here. This makes her a credible source. That area is close to the studio and was used numerous times. Right next door is the old "Commercial Bank" building that we see behind Tubbs in "French Twist" as he races to the hospital to find Cindy who snuck out while he was babysitting. A clip showing that block was seen twice in "Deliver Us From Evil."

I say this because it has been some time since Vice filmed and therefore it may take some discussions to clearify the memory.I am a little doubtful that Tin Lizzy was used as the meeting restaurant in HOD. I believe that though renovated the Boston Market building is the same basic structure that was the Tin Lizzy building. To me this building is too small to have housed the restaurant we see in HOD. I will go back and watch the scene again but I don't see it. One thing that is clear is this thread is active again and that will definitely lead to cases being solved.

I remembered that we see a great shot of Pumpernik's in Lady In Cement. I went and grabed this screen capture from my web site. It was filmed in 1968 and shows the Tin Lizzy as a lounge with a completely different building than what is on the site now. Thought it was of interest and maybe helpful. I will plug the movie in and see if there is a better view of the lounge.Eingefügtes Bild

Maybe hard to read sign but it was the Motel Rancher. I have not found much on it other than it was a cabaret Lounge and the owner did 3 months punking with the brothers up in steel town for bribing an IRS Agent.

Here's a pic that's similar where the tile pattern is concerned. Anyone know where this is so we can look on GE?http://www.lonelyplanet.com/usa/miami/images/image-12490-3$12490-3

Here is another one that I have not been able to find. It appears in several episodes" data-date=" Give A Little, Take A Little, and Little Prince but the best view is in Florence Italy. Biscayne General Merchandise. The street number is 202. It looks ike downtown Miami but I have not been able to find it. Anyone know where it was? There is 1) a stair case visible leading out to the street to the right of the store. Very rare in Miami.2) It is on a street corner and at least the street the camera is on is one way headed to the screen">

I've been looking through sites with old pictures of Miami and found the one below. I don't think it's what we're looking for but I thought I'd post to show there were others around Flagler Street which had outside sets of stairs:http://www.pbase.com/donboyd/image/131392459

Nice picture but the pattern and colors are completely different.

I spent a couple hours touring the higher addresses of 7th and 8th street and I think that is the area we will find CC1. CC3 may be nearby. There a combo of crappy overhangs, clay tile, and stairs. I'll keep looking though, haven't spotted anything exact yet.

Now I see something I didn't before. The street we're looking down here is the one way. I thought it was the intersecting street that was one way. I clearly see the truck parked on the right side of the road is facing us. That may be a useful clue. Thanks for the new and brighter image, you must have just grabbed those ones, they're different. Also the square shapes on the building across the street look almost like a continuous pattern and may wrap around the entire building. WHen I look up at the top if the building where it meets the overhang, I see a dark strip just before. that makes me think we're seeing the top edge of the outside wall. Is it possible that the building is only that tall? The large square windows(?) then three levels of small windows? The three red lights in the background are really confusing. Could they be a part of the rail system? Also, with all the light the building further down the block from the big one across the street looks little. As if the dark portion at street level is the entire building. I previously though that it just had a darker lower portion, and lighter above. I'll have to keep that possibility in mind.Is the guy standing against the corner in the night shots the same guy as the one reading the paper in the day shots? Looks like the same hat even.

Yeah they are new. Thought I would go back and grab some different points to see if it would help. I also played around with them some to see if I could make things more visible. Yes both streets are one way. This is more obvious when you watch the ep because you see the cars in motion. In Florence Itally you actually see two cars side by side travelling up the street toward the camera.Of course we can see part of a one way sign on the cross street. I agree that we are probably seeing the top of the building. The three red lights in the background are really confusing. Could they be a part of the rail system? I previously though that it just had a darker lower portion, and lighter above. I'll have to keep that possibility in mind.I think we might be seeing two entrance ways when we see the dark spots. I think the building is large but the dark area is two entrances that are like large garage door sized openings. Is the guy standing against the corner in the night shots the same guy as the one reading the paper in the day shots? Looks like the same hat even.

I also see about what is probably 60% of the way down the street, on the right, another overhang that I get the impression is shorter like a marquis on a theater or hotel entrance. As far as the red lights go, they bother me. I had not thought of the metro-rail. could be. I think that a construction crane is the most likely but by no means an absolute.

Taking another look at the building down on the left. The dark areas are bigger than two garage doors. It looks like a facade on the building and there appears to be a white support column right on the corner of the building between the two dark sections.

I thought it might be a good idea to have a thread where we' date=' as a group of location detectives could attack 1 mystery (unknown location) at a time. Pick an unsolved location and post whatever clues you notice about that location. This way something you notice but that may not mean anything to you may have gone unnoticed by another but may trigger something for them. We can pool our insight and bounce ideas around that I am confident will solve even the toughest puzzles. I think the exploding drug lab in Milk Run may be a good case to start with. Clues I notice are 1) the unique facing on the front of the roofs of the buildings seen on the street in the background. 2) It is unlikely that the lab house is still standing today. 3) The last structure that can be seen on the street has an awning typical of a store front. 4) The utility poles are concrete not wood. 5) The road is narrow and has a white line running down it, not yellow so I believe it is likely a oneway street. 6) In the background behind C+T there are almost no lights which makes me believe the house was on the water. 7) Of the few visible lights I think that the ones on the right are on a radio tower and the group of four on the left are atop a highrise building. 8) The filming for this episode was somewhat scattered so I don't get any clues from that.9) There are parking meters along the street. Please chime in and add any and all clues you notice no matter how small and chime in with any ideas. [/color']Eingefügtes BildEingefügtes BildEingefügtes BildEingefügtes Bild

Cooper and Burnett published this behind the scenes photo of the Milk Run lab explosion. At the top of the picture is that the lights on the metro rail over the Miami River in downtown? That would certainly narrow it down.Eingefügtes Bild

I believe I have found the location of CC1, the drug lab from Milk Run. I will put together some pictures now and publish them here as soon as I can.

Based on seeing the neon lights in the air on Cooper and Burnett's behind the scenes photo of the drug lab explosion I started looking around the river in dt Miami for the site near the metrorail bridge. This made even more sense since it has been reported that the house was in downtown Miami. Still it was not easy. I looked around for a good 1/2 hour expanding my search until I found it. The only reason I found it is that after studying the screen captures so much I even recognized the roof line of the building in the distant background. The drug house was on SW 8th street and the address would have been approximately 40 SW 8th Street. First here is the building in the far bg that still remains and then the screen capture w/ the building.Eingefügtes BildEingefügtes BildThen we have a sat, picture from 01/26/1995 which shows the apartment complex next to the drug house still standing as well as the building next to it before the last remaing building.Eingefügtes BildThen a sat. picture from 02/21/1999 where the apartment buildings have been recently torn down but we clearly see the shape which is appropriate sized.Eingefügtes BildThen 12/31/2002 as it gets closer to how it currently looks.Eingefügtes BildEingefügtes BildEingefügtes Bild:D:D

I see what you see, but there's a problem. The shot facing the other direction with the firetrucks has a dock and water less than a block away. Maybe the explosion was done in a different area? That doesn't mesh with events I read elsewhere on this site about that explosion. I'm skeptical about the two parts of that scene being in the same place. But I do see what you see for the view facing the railway.

Upon rewatching the scene in Miami Vice, there appears to be no water. Must be an illusion i see in the picture here. So you found it I think. It's so different now than it was. Powerlines are gone, Parking meters are gone, trees are gone and replaced with others. In the show you can see a building across the alley, and it's gone. There's what looks like a walk light, between the remaining buildings and the ones no longer standing, and it's not there, nor does it make any sense that it would ever have been there. Maybe that wasn't a walk light. The dock leading down that I saw turned out to be the ladder on the old firetruck. The Cop car in the back still looks funny. Like it's facing downhill. It must be parked at just the right angle or have it's wheels on the curb or something to give that illusion.

To me it could make sense to be there because it was mid block and you had apartment buildings right there. Then the buildings go followed by the modernization program that put the electric, cable, phone, underground. Why spend the money to wire a light when the peolpe don't live there anymore. There are a number of things that convince me this is the spot but the most important are the metrorail bridge lights, the remaining building, and there was an appropriate sized and shaped building there in the sat. pictures.
