My plans for my Daytona replica

Indeed stinger and it was a good film

Yeah but the only reason the grill is configured like that on the genuine article is because the headlights drop down. The McBurnie doesn't so he extended the grill over into this space. I think it looks fine
Not exactly the daytona originally came with a plexyglass nose cover and hard mounted headlights in 68' its first year of production:Eingefügtes Bildand then in 69 they changed it over to pop up headlights to bypass the stupid ridehight laws pasted at that time along with everyone else.

Now for the spinners/rims and mirrors:With the rims I'd definitely go for the 72 spoke wire wheels not the other ones that the Daytona, BB and Testarossa had up until the early 1990's till the 512TR seen here and I have seen replicas with these wheels occasionally:Eingefügtes BildEingefügtes Bildbecause they dont suit the spyders well:Eingefügtes Bild but they do look good on the hardtops:Eingefügtes Bildwith the spinners I'm kinda torn between the ones on the MV car and the one you've got on your car Sonny with the ferrari logo on it so it would be kinda a coin toss in that department since I like them both:Eingefügtes BildEingefügtes Bildhttp://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3714&stc=1&d=1307356890http://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3715&stc=1&d=1307356892Mirrors: now I'd probably make sure they were placed exactly where they were on the MV car, which just looks righthttp://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3717&stc=1&d=1307357403Now the mirrors themselves (I forgot its name) were actually kinda a timepiece just like the original spinners, a few sports cars made around that time had that same mirror on them and they also looked good on the daytonahttp://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3716&stc=1&d=1307357400http://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3718&stc=1&d=1307357405The Dino 308 and the alfa spyder in particular had that mirror setup as well, some of them.

http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_19510-Alfa-Romeo-Spider-1983.htmlbut I was thinking of changing them to some sort of a painted variety to match the body, maybe just paint them period or go for something along the lines that the old muscle cars and modern cars have:Eingefügtes Bildor on the 1973 ford falcon xb gt mad max replica with an actual blower made by mark (wont let me put the full link here for some odd reason along with the photo.http://www.madmaxmovies.com/mad-max-fans/mad-max-replica-cars/mad-max-interceptors/index.html

About the mirrors again I was thinking that maybe going with one mirror on the drivers side only would also look good like on the actual car:Eingefügtes BildEingefügtes Bildand one of the replicas I found:Eingefügtes BildEingefügtes BildEingefügtes Bildthat has a mirror not to disimlar to the one on Kowalskis car that was from a camaroEingefügtes BildEingefügtes Bildgoing with a mirror similar the kind they had on the early mustangs:Eingefügtes Bild

About the headlight covers, while I do like the look of them in the daytime:Eingefügtes Bild they look kinda odd when there in the down position:Eingefügtes BildSo I'd probably go with the smoked lexan cover because that's what car 4 had on it in the pilot:http://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3730&stc=1&d=1307810631Although made in a lighter shade of black so as to prevent the blackout problem on it during the night scenes of S2 without the high's on like jurrasic has, maybe even abit lighter to give it a faint black tint yet still see through and made out of Lexan to prevent the warping problem that the MV car had throught its run on MV and possibly try and put some sort of venting around the headlights as to cool the area around them to prevent warping it and baking the paint around the headlights.http://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3731&stc=1&d=1307810634and concerning the windshields chrome strip, I'd defintiely go for that on mine:http://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3732&stc=1&d=1307811332 to me it looks kinda odd to have one without itEingefügtes Bild Although as a one piece unit like on the rowley corvettes, unless the reason why it looked like it was made up of three parts on the MV car was because of how rough it looked, probably some sort of damage from the camera mounts for the "In The Air Tonight" scene as they looked fine before ithttp://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3733&stc=1&d=1307811391Eingefügtes BildAnyway's I'll get on about the interior tommorow, this is where I go my own way from the rowley and the MV car to an extent, also I forgot to ask something does anyone know if Markadian/Mcburnie were racing fans of Paul Newman? he drove a modded NART spec daytona in 1977 with FULL flares just like the MV car and I'm wondering if that's why the MV and Mcburnie cars had full flares instead of the tapered ones (to replicate the look his car had)Actually I Just thought of something else, isnt it possibile to change the color of some specialty plexyglass pieces nowadays with an electrical current? I remember hearing about people doing that with licence plates covered with plexyglass to get away from the cops (to cover up their registration numbers and then ditch the cops) hmm I wonder if that would work with the nose piece.

I am on the fence about my headlight covers. As you pointed out they look really good in the daytime when closed, adding a nice finished touch to the nose.To your nightime comment though, when the covers open it is usually almost dark and so no one really gets a good look at the open configuration of the headlight opening. Am concerned though that when open the headlamps are partially obscured by the covers as they don't lie flat ....they are raised slightly from the surface. Not sure what I am going to do with that.Re the chrome on the top of the windshield, think they all have that as it looks like something from the Vettes of the era. I defer to the experts here on that though. Or were you referring to the side frames of the windshield? I can't recall whether they were chrome or black in the various Seasons on Car 4.

About the side mirrors, I originally had the faux-Ferrari black conical mirrors when I bought the car (see my original pics with the top up) but never liked them not just because they were not faithful to the show, but also because they had too limited a field of view..I could not see cars on either side of me very well. The ones on Car4 were Vitaloni Baby Tornados. Can send you the link where I obtained them if you need it. Re the wheels and spinners agree that wire is the way to go and mine are the original Zenith wheels that I believe were/are on Car4. The eagle spinners are cool but I have become attached to my flared Ferrari logo'd spinners and so will leave them. But as you know, a lot of this is just personal preference and you should make it your own, as JN keeps reminding us. ;)

I have the chrome piece across the top of the windshield frame also on my McBurnie. But wasn't there some earlier disussion about Car1 and Car4 having either chrome or black paint on the side frames of the windshield? Can't remember exactly but mine are black and think Car4 is chrome on the side? Not recalling what painted piece for JN you are referring to. Re my light covers, there is some kind of spring under the covers when they are in the open position. I think it is part of the mechanism used to raise the covers when they close.

Yeah those mirrors are cool too. :thumbsup:I also noticed something and remembered another closeup of the mirrors on Car4. They may actually be Tornados and not Baby Tornados, the former being slightly larger. I saw one on Ebay once at it looked more like the ones on Car4 than the Baby Tornados. Need to confirm maybe with CD to measure his. I bet they are larger than the Baby Tornados.

I dont know but its really hard to tell, could be either one.funny though about the C5, the C5 was the first corvette I ever really liked, the others while they looked good in certain color combinations and wheels sometimes didnt seem that attractive to me, probably because of how bumpy and flat the body styles got.basically classic but not my taste, like the 911 too. actually it wasnt until the 996 that I cared for the 911 either which was made about the same time and I dont like the modern one they make now that came after it, it's too beattle like with those headlights.I do however like the C6 though, but not the interior of it.I mean is it that hard to make a good looking interior to match the body that's straight to the point without any digital crap in it? but I guess thats why I like the daytona so much, the smoother body similar to the C5 with a really nice interior that's the business like the 911's interior of the 1960's and I dont have to worry about the tail poping out and putting me in a hedge just because all the weights behind the rear wheels.

Was never into Vettes before getting the Daytona but now I seem to be drawn to them. I was getting the Daytona serviced at a Vette specialty shop that also sold Vettes and they have a pretty good inventory of 70s, 80s and even 60s and 50s era cars. Really like the 60s era body style and engine sounds. So if you're getting a Daytona hope you also like C3s. ;)And the most senior mechanic at the shop told me the other day that after test driving the Daytona that it is faster than the early 80s Vettes he's driven. Not sure why though because I thought even the Vettes had fiberglass bodies.

like I said its kinda marginal, I do like the latter model targa models they made but theres no earlier vette that isnt conditional buy in my mind like here for exampleI'd go for these because of the rims, interior and paint job of these particular cars:http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_404808-Chevrolet-Corvette-C2.htmlhttp://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_218227-Chevrolet-Corvette-C5.htmlhttp://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_289217-Chevrolet-Corvette-C2-1966.htmlhttp://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_138736-Chevrolet-Corvette-C3-1970.htmlhttp://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_24442-Chevrolet-Corvette-C3-1980.htmlhttp://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_41213-Chevrolet-Corvette-C3-1979.htmlhttp://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_360307-Chevrolet-Corvette-1978.htmlugh look at how good the testa looked in black too:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ferrari-Testarossa-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZalgoQ3dLVIQ26ituQ3dUCIQ26otnQ3d5Q26poQ3dLVIQ26psQ3d63Q26clkidQ3d606447099321422506QQ_trksidZp5197Q2em7QQitemZ110698639122but not these even though there there largely the same models:http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_304305-Chevrolet-Corvette-C3.htmlhttp://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_267372-Chevrolet-Corvette-C4.htmlhttp://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_283457-Chevrolet-Corvette-C4.htmlhttp://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_308579-Chevrolet-Corvette-C3-1968.htmlhttp://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_3233-Chevrolet-Corvette-C3-1969.htmlhttp://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_20269-Chevrolet-Corvette-C3-1969.htmlhttp://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_308264-Chevrolet-Corvette-1974.htmlsame thing with the 911's too, also with the C3 I think it just looks really ugly with a front plate and the latter models around the time the MV cars were made were also kinda meh, its hard to believe that the MV car was once a beige 81' vette with a matching beige interior, talk about going from a pauper to a prince!and keep in mind that fiberglass takes off 400 pounds, the stock cars had steel body parts, not aluminiumn or anything that would really save weight, and 400 is a huge weight reduction and probably pumps up the power to weight ratio to about what the earlier more powerful cars with a minimal of 300 hp had and keep in mind if the MV cars had needed more power for the stunt scenes and pulling the cameras around carl could have easily torn out the engine and replaced it with an earlier unit and all he did was put a 4 barrel carb on it and some valve breather covers on it.and even if it is an earlier block it was still made around the time the corvettes lost most of there horsepower (1974 - 1982)

Nice shots here and great detail on the thought process. On the weight/speed issue I thought the Vette body was also fiberglass so not sure still why my car would be faster. So you know that a 4 barrel carb was added to Car4 then? Thought CD once said he had a standard carb, think was a Richmond like I'm pretty sure mine is. But my original bill of sale shows my car once had a Holley 4 barrel carb installed...now is long gone. I did know that mine was in the era of dowsizing the horsepower....damn! Don't know what color my donor car was. Never saw that detail.

ah, ok and thanks for the info and photos on this. Was worried I had the wrong configuration but not so, as I have chrome only on the top. Did look today and I have a chrome strip between the bolting mechanisms for the convertible top. Question for JN or anyone who knows:On the subject of the Zenith wire wheels which I have and are original to the car, do you know if they are chrome or another metal type? Am wanting to get a specialized wire wheel cleaner specific to the type of metal. ThnxS-B

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqH8JQM3tk8&feature=related
plus my car has 170 hp with 177 pounds of torque and it hauls ass pretty good, so its nothing really worth worrying about. if need be just drop in a 327 modern crate motor for 300 some hp and it'll probably give the actual car a run for its money in the 0 - 60 department.

Now with the interior I want to go with Car 4's dash and current center console:http://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3819&stc=1&d=1308263251with a few twists, the plastic gauge covers are typically very easy to scratch and the second it gets any dust on it you'll know about it once the light shines on it.So naturally you want to clean it but you cant because you'll scratch it and actually looking close at the speedo and tach I can see a mark or two on the plastic of the camera car.so what I'd want to do is replace it with something that's more scratch resistant, like glass, plexyglass or lexan plus I would imagine those would look better than the stock plastic covers like on this old 1960's/1970's Aston Martin DBS which I think has glass covers over its smith gaugesEingefügtes Bildor I could just use a hairdryer to blow the dust off the gauges, hmm that might also work as well....Next up I'd want to change over that brown carpeting on the bottom of the dash to black to match the floorhttp://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3820&stc=1&d=1308263429http://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3823&stc=1&d=1308265676the reason being that its a hold over from when the car had wood rimmed gages and the center console was also covered in burlwood, it was a trick to make you think that the brown carpeting from a distance was also the same color wood and it just looks odd on it right now, not bad just odd.http://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3822&stc=1&d=1308263808plus wood when its done wrong on a car looks REALLY tacky and I really havent seen that many cars where it has been done well, latter model Mercedes in particular, that color wood with a grey interior? yuck.Eingefügtes Bildas for the gauges themselves I'd stick with the white on black dials the car has, except instead of a 240mph speedo like on the camera car (I'm not joking about that either) Eingefügtes Bildthe max speed would be 180, just incase I went speed crazy and had the engine and the tranny removed for the C5's units along with the entire chasis and suspension being overhauled for those kinda speedsand I'd maybe make that red line on the tach abit longer and maybe thicker so its a touch more visibile IE: from 7,500 rpm to 9,000

Now with the steering wheel I want to go with a momo adapter even if it doesnt need it since I just like the black and tan look the steering columns got going for it with one on it:http://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3824&stc=1&d=1308276939 but I do want to go with a different model steering wheel that's more period correct like the one on the last of the P400 Miura's here:Eingefügtes Bildthe prototipo:Eingefügtes Bildexcept not in silver, rather a blackish silver similar to the color of the Momo Veloce since I've never been a fan of really shinny chrome steering wheels and I rather fancy one that's in the same color as the dash or black, but either ain't bad truth be told:Eingefügtes Bildalthough I might try and rub off that white label on it that says prototipo and with the horn button I've got a few ideas for it like going for a completely black one:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MOMO-Horn-Button-Steering-Wheel-Black-Blank-Logo-/140524221566?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item20b7e5747e or a silver one http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/New-Genuine-Momo-steering-wheel-centre-Alfa-Ferrari-/150617424504?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item23117f8278but I'd probably end up going for what the camera car has on it right now like on the two above steering wheels:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MOMO-Steering-Wheel-Horn-Button-Yellow-Arrow-/300517666354?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item45f83fae32with the size of the steering wheel itself, I really dont know but I just went from an old car with a 14.5 inch diameter wheel to a brand new one with a 14 inch one and I have to say judging by that I'd probably go for one that's a minimal of 14"Any smaller and it would probably feel to small for my hands, but I guess its based more on the turning radius of the car and the sharpness of the steering than anything else so the 13.5 might be the ideal size for it, plus I'm not sure how much room there is in the cabin for a bigger steering wheel especially with my plan for the door panels:http://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3825&stc=1&d=1308278623

Power to weight' date=' the lighter the car the less power it needs to haul itself around, its kinda like if you stuck and olympic sprint runners legs to a fat person, he wouldnt be very fast, but stick those legs on a skinny person and look out[/quote'] I know about power to weight ratio but was saying that I think the Vette was also fiberglass body so not understanding why the McBurnie would be faster than the stock 81 Vette.
and the steel is thicker and heavier than fiberglass, I'm not sure by how much but its one of the first things you do when you want to make a car go faster, add lightness as the lotus people said back in the day after all that's what makes cars like this elan so fast:http://www.jaylenosgarage.com/at-the-garage/sports-cars/1969-lotus-elan/
Yes but don't know where the Vette has extra steel over the Daytona.
and yeah Cameradaytona mentioned it was a 4 barrel holly double pumper carb which has two chokes
Are you saying the current camera car still has the 4 barrel Holley? Mine did at one time but sadly no more....
and yeah they neutered the vette motor from 300 + horsepower down to as little as a 150 on the california 305 cars:http://www.vettefacts.com/C3/1981.aspx[/urlhttp://auto.howstuffworks.com/1981-corvette1.htm
Am aware they took the performance down in that era and even the 85mph speedo. Crazy to do that to a performance car.
Where's you see this? Similar though I think the camera car is 60 vs 70 isn't it?
Can guarantee you my Daytona does haul a_s even still. Can really move off the line and moreso when the 8 cylinders kick in.
Which car?
Maybe....someday.

Now with the interior I want to go with Car 4's dash and current center console:
c So you would stay with the current black center console look then? Am also considering it as I am on the fence about the woodgrain paneling. Not sure either about the medium brown carpet trim below the dash area.
with a few twists' date=' the plastic gauge covers are typically very easy to scratch and the second it gets any dust on it you'll know about it once the light shines on it.So naturally you want to clean it but you cant because you'll scratch it and actually looking close at the speedo and tach I can see a mark or two on the plastic of the camera car.so what I'd want to do is replace it with something that's more scratch resistant, like glass, plexyglass or lexan plus I would imagine those would look better than the stock plastic covers like on this old 1960's/1970's Aston Martin DBS which I think has glass covers over its smith gauges[/quote']Didn't realize the guage covers were plastic. You have a good idea here.
or I could just use a hairdryer to blow the dust off the gauges, hmm that might also work as well....the reason being that its a hold over from when the car had wood rimmed gages and the center console was also covered in burlwood, it was a trick to make you think that the brown carpeting from a distance was also the same color wood and it just looks odd on it right now, not bad just odd.
Interesting observation.
as for the gauges themselves I'd stick with the white on black dials the car has, except instead of a 240mph speedo like on the camera car (I'm not joking about that either) the max speed would be 180, just incase I went speed crazy and had the engine and the tranny removed for the C5's units along with the entire chasis and suspension being overhauled for those kinda speeds
why limit to 185?

not getting you. Thought the camera car has a tan column but in this shot is all black
but I do want to go with a different model steering wheel that's more period correct like the one on the last of the P400 Miura's here:
these are cool .
but I'd probably end up going for what the camera car has on it right now like on the two above steering wheels:with the size of the steering wheel itself' date=' I really dont know but I just went from an old car with a 14.5 inch diameter wheel to a brand new one with a 14 inch one and I have to say judging by that I'd probably go for one that's a minimal of 14"[/quote'] not getting you here. I have an even smaller wheel than CD does now...don't think something 14 or bigger would look right in the small space.
Any smaller and it would probably feel to small for my hands, but I guess its based more on the turning radius of the car and the sharpness of the steering than anything else so the 13.5 might be the ideal size for it, plus I'm not sure how much room there is in the cabin for a bigger steering wheel especially with my plan for the door panels:
what are you doing to the door panels?

To my knowledge because GM wasnt a very performance oreinted company till the viper came out in 92 and horsepower was now viabile because of computers at that time all most all of there cars up till then had completely steel bodies and low horsepower, they made none that were aluminiumn and fiberglass has to be laid down and layered in a mold unlike steel and aluminium that can be pressed so I know they definitely didnt have any that were made out of fiberglass.and the only company that I know of that really had any sort of production fiberglass bodies was the lotus companynow with the C4 ZR1 that came out to challenge the viper, I think that was there first aluminumn bodied car in quite some time, maybe the first one since the grand sport of 1962' that wasnt even offically okayed by the companyactually the GN may have had an aluminiumn body (the all black car the guy from Killshot was driving)http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_123879-Buick-Grand-National-1986.htmlbut they killed that car because it was actually faster than the vette of that time period.and with the C5 I'm not sure about what the body was made out of but they did a bunch of key things to it to make it more european like instead of muscle car like, like putting on that transaxel for better weight distribution like on the actual carand yeah the camera car had a 4 barrel Holly double pumper, double chokes:http://www.holley.com/types/Double Pumpers.aspsorry but I gotta take a break right now theres a show on the discovery channel called south beach customs and there showing off some pretty interesting cars, including a sadly butchered Cord 810 (baby duesenberg)
