Crockett's 5th Season 4506

Just on a whilm yesterday I decided to watch the last montage of Freefall (partly because its one of the few times in the shows run that you can actually here the genuine v12 ferrari noises) and I noticed Crockett's 4506 had a polished stainless slide over a bead blasted frame, basically the reverse of the Bren Ten back from S2:http://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3787&stc=1&d=1308069767http://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3784&stc=1&d=1308069760instead of the stock 4506 which had an all beadblasted frame and slide:Eingefügtes Bildand heres the clincher I found one just like it save for the little red dot that tells you the gun is in ready to fire mode, which on this one is put on the frame below the safety lever instead of just under it on the slide:http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=234761631Eingefügtes BildEingefügtes Bild

Interesting. I hadn't notice that before. Are you sure it wasn't the lighting for the scene? Polishing one isn't hard. As a matter of fact if you carry enough in a leather holster the slide will start to look polished.:D

That's why I took multiple shots of it, to make sure it wasnt just the lighting but it certainly looks like it was polished.and its funny I always think to myself watching that particular scene that is one big god damn gun and he did have that custom Sig and Dual tone Smith for season 4 so it wouldnt be that unreasonabile to think that he had it customized like he did for those seasons, plus Vice was trying to be more like its earlier self in season 5 so it kinda fits that it was the reverse of what the bren was in S1 - S2

I have a S&W 669 like that. Mine is exactly like this one. Maybe that was an option back then?Eingefügtes Bild

Could be, I remember someone mentioning that the guy who ran smith and wesson back in the 1980's was keen on personal requests like that.and just browsing through some gun videos on youtube I found a 4506 that looked to be the reverse of that like the MV bren and I kinda like it:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INt0MFqBO8U

Just sort of a final note on this I was looking up the 4506 on google image search and came across a few 4506's with his finish and a few that didnt on the smith and wesson forms Eingefügtes Bildincluding a pre 4506 that had the all bead blasted finish of the latter models, so I dont really know what to think at this point, best bet is that it was an option to order one with a polished slide.have to admit though that it looks good like that with a novak rear, hell put on wood grips and a hogue slip on grip and it'd be ready to go.

Not to rain on your project, but Sonny's 4506 had the early 645 type rear sight and not the Novak rear sight of latter 4506s'. I'm one of the few people who prefer the original 645 flat blade rear sight instead of the recessed blade Novak.

Indeed its just that, that was one of the first times I had seen a 4506 like he used on the show with the novak sights I want to go with and I think it actually looks pretty good to the point where if I find one I might seriously consider going for it instead of the 645.plus the point you made about how after being used in a holster the finish rubs off and it eventually starts to look like that plus what some of the people mentioned on the smith and wesson forums where you can actually polish the blemishes out of stainelss like that, something I had heard of but not given much quarter since I thought it couldnt look that good if you did it.and I'm kinda warming up to the idea of leaving the finish of the 645 alone after hearing about that momas mag polish and leaving it all stainless rather than trying to replicate the bren with it since I just finished up Stones war after starting with El Viego and When Irish Eyes are crying and it actually looks pretty good.

After reviewing the 4 pics, from the show, I would say that it is a model 4506 with 645 sights and trigger guard. Very early generation. Look at the sights. They are classic design to the 645. The 645 was a second generation while the 4506 was third generation. There were some 4506 that had the hooked trigger guard, but they were few and far inbetween. One way or another, 645 or 4506, great gun, either model. Just different features and upgrades.Take care. John.P.S. Make sure you look at my new find: S&W 1006, with factory adjustable sights. I just posted it here.

seems that the the 4506 between 1988 and 1990 had the squared trigger guard and the non novak sights on it (judging by the fact that the 1006 was made between 1990 - 1993 and none of them had that squared trigger guard)and that it had been in production from 1988 - 2007 according to thishttp://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=247373927actually that brings up an interesting question, does that mean that his smith from the burnett saga was also a square trigger guard model since that episode was probably made just as it came out?

According to the S&W literature, the 4506 series were ended in 1999, but now this changes everything on more availability of this fine firearm. Wow, you learn something new everyday. Why would S&W hide this information from the public?

from what it sounds like it was a goverment only kind of fufillment and not ment to be a public consumption run, plus remember what their trying to push nowadays, the new M and P which I've tried the trigger on and disliked, there's no feel to it at all (plus its donation to the top shot program recently) and their new $600 1911 series which from what everyone has said is good value for their money. specifically Mike Larroca of whom I have had a similar experence with to what Sonny Burnett did with his corvette expert there and his cooling system, which was part of the reason why I was laughing about it on the thread there, I just couldnt believe the same damn thing happened to him after I kept racking my brain trying to figure out what was causing the cooling issue on Sonny's car, I mean how god damn fucking stupid is thaton that matter to say the least hes not reliable and he doesnt double check his work, I guess his ego has gotten the better of him in that regard, he specifically forgot to lock tight a screw on my model 49 he sold me and well when I was cleaning it I got a surprise, a screw that holds the big metal thing on the frame that connects cylinder to the gun was loose alowing the cylinder and that part to come outFYI the big screw right under this annaconda's cylinderEingefügtes Bildit looked like he had relubricated that rod and forgotten to test fire it to make sure it didnt come undone like it did, however the guns still a great little piece and I fixed it myself so I kept it and kept that to myself but I've lost all confidence in the man after that, especally after the WW2 Walther P38 incident where the slide cracked because he didnt bother checking it before sending it back to me after the safety failed with three in the magazine and it went full auto on me at the rangeFYI the safety breaking was my fault, fell out of the locker onto the hammer at about three feet, thankfully it wasnt concrete but it was enough to crack the safety completely in half, it looked fine at the time before I took it to the range.anyways back ontopic a couple of weeks or months ago a post on the SW forums said that same particular thing about another run of third gen 9mm's, that a specific department had decided to stay with the third gen pistols over the new M and P and thus smith and wesson was going to continue making them for that specific department, or something along the lines of that but not sell it to everyone else.So I guess smith and wesson or the person who runs it just has no love for the grandsons of the model 39 (that my father loves) that they made in the 1980's and wants to pick up the slack with the M and P after some of the trouble and general sort of rejection by some people of the new generation of glocks that glock just came out with

Hmm I should have done this before but I just typed in polished slide 4506 and two new nice ones I've never seen poped uphttp://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4611&stc=1&d=1313986591http://www.miamiviceonline.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4612&stc=1&d=1313986593hmm however I'm still kind of a sucker for the hard chrome finish of the bren and judging by how well this hard chromed 1006 came out I'm seriously considering looking into having some one chrome plate the thing like he didEingefügtes Bildand its got a redone bead blasted finish on it from novak for the frame:http://www.ar15armory.com/forums/lofiversion/index.php?t74955.htmlhmm maybe have the frame polished up like the slide on the top one and have the slide hardchromed, either way these are some really nice options.

Honesly by far I think the Hard Chrome over a redone beadblasting Novak job like herehttp://www.novaksights.com/customguns/gunsforsale/novakcustom/ncsw5903.html just feels right to me for the fortis replacement project hereand mix that in with the flat mainspring housing 1911 look of a latter grip like on the 1026/1076 which have palm swells and one that doesnt http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=247860361http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=247136537http://smith-wessonforum.com/smith-wesson-semi-auto-pistols/97071-10xx-45xx-grips-compared-photos.htmlthat will work on both the 1006 and the 4506 and I think I've had my eureka moment with this project as wellhowever I think one of the grips there has to be cut to accept the ambidexterious controls of those two the slide polishing thing while I like it has been done and well I'm not too big a fan of shiny finishes, plus it was always a trademark of his bren and I've already got a shiny kimber gold match mark 1 so it just seems right. plus I gotta wonder if theres any truth to what that kid said with the airguns of which I've read that the bren ten airgun is pretty much an EXACT clone of the bren that feels the same as the real dealhttp://www.bren-ten.com/website/id24.html although I dont know how thats possibile considering the bren is a double stack while the 4506/1006 is a single stack.
