NEW LOCATION FOUND: SOLIZ HOUSE

CGlide´s and my original hunch that the Soliz house must be in the Pinecrest area (due to size of garden, lack of water and distance to neighbor houses) turned out to be true. Today, I did a tour-de-force and checked all houses in that area via satellite one-by-one, looking for the unique pool layout and the unique building layout with the narrow parallel structure. It took me 1 hour to find:

Result: 6070 SW 128 Street.

The sat pictures (2D and 3D) below say it all.

Fantastic work!  Isn't this the 2nd or 3rd house you've found that's landlocked and therefore nearly impossible to find?  It seems like Pinecrest is your specialty.

Tonight I've been taking a close look at these 3 houses with the wooden interior (Jack of All Trades, Rising Sun of Death, World of Trouble).

Starting with what we know:

In "Rising Sun of Death" Castillo drives up to the house twice.  The location can be pinpointed precisely by the fire hydrant and the house next door:

• Church / Chabad
• Rising Sun of Death house with wood interior
• house next door

The tall vaulted slanted ceilings seen on satellite match with what we see inside.

This 3715 Main Highway address on the production report is definitely wrong.  This house was on Anchorage Way, not on Main Highway.   3713 Main Highway is now the Chabad.  It was formerly the Bryan Memorial Methodist Church.  It has always occupied the entire block of Main Highway frontage (3713 & 3715).  Between the Chabad/Church and Villa Ipa was Tubbs' cover house in "The Lost Madonna".

I was bothered by the scene when Jack & Sonny go inside because it doesn't look like the wooden Villa Ipa interior at all. 

But we see the exact same room in "Rising Sun of Death"

What I'm really leading up to is Lombard's house in "World of Trouble".  It looks like the same style with a wooden interior, but I can't find any details to match up.  And when the hit men drive up, it's definitely not Anchorage Way (no brick pavers).

Can anybody find a single detail in Lombard's house that matches Villa Ipa in Rising and Jack?

I will look into it tonight. It’s a pity that the posh house of Tubbs between the church and Villa IPA is gone. 
 

BTW let’s not forget that we still have the Mystery around Sal Lombards house in WOT! Al Lombard stands in front of it with a strange distance to the typical anchorage way wall (at least that’s what it looks like on the still below) behind him and we still do not know where this house with similar columns like the posh house and a big garden with huge Banyan trees and a pool diagonal to the house was.

I took a quick look now as the question raised by airtommy bugged me.

I see no single match between Lombards WOT house and Villa Ipa (except a similar roof pattern). Obviously we had blinders on and just assumed that the wooden appearance similarities are all what it takes. Shame on us!

Here is why I don’t think WOT Lombard house was Villa Ipa: the pool in WOT is clearly a swimming pool with a wooden bridge leading over it where the attacker approached Lombard (see pictures). In Villa IPA there is only a narrow style pool and I have Never Seen a Second Pool there. Also the room Lombard is sitting in seems to sit on top of a structure with (elevated?) walkways around it which is also not featured in RSOD. Just wooden interior is not enough! 

That raises the question of two unknown house locations in WOT (with one having an Anchorage Way Looking wall on the other side of the street) and I bet they were close to each other.

This is the link to SDG, the company that designed and built the Soliz house in 1985. They even have a reference to the MV episode on the site and a previously unknown picture of the Soliz house. Enjoy!

For those who are interested to understand what happened where exactly in that episode on that location: on the far left edge of this picture is the white fence that Jack Crockett climbed over when he sneaked in to rip off Soliz. That fence is gone now on Google Earth. The scenes where Jack watches Soliz men unloading that was filmed on the opposite, right side of the house (here blocked by a brown wall and palm trees).

As we discussed Villa Ipa (home of Jack Crockett that was also used in Rising sun of death) recently...

when I looked for Lombard´s home in WOT - which is not Villa Ipa - I found a great book about Kenneth Treister´s works, one of the key architects in SFL/Miami from 60s to 80s next to Alfred Browning Parker and more recently Max Strang. This book contains terrific pictures and great info about long gone Villa Ipa (it was called "Ipa" on the daily production sheets of "Rising sun of death" which I own), called here Ville "IPE" which was built in 1987 according to this book. It contains the only proof pictures of Villa Ipa I have seen anywhere.

Treister also designed other MV landmarks like the Mayfair complex used in Jack of all trades, Too much, too late (e.g. the fountain where Switek makes his phone call), French Twist and even the Elizabeth Verrick park in the Grove used in Too much, too late and The Fix. Enjoy!

here in Switzerland you would not be allowed to even just scratch off a chip of paint off a building of such architectural significance and you would not dare to think about tearing it down and replacing it. The people who demolish all these beautiful houses like Villa Ipa and the "Little Prince" house should be publicly kicked in the nads, tarred and feathered and chased away out of town with a muckrake

Here in Austria the same. You are not even allowed to remove a rusty nail from a protected building here. But in Europe we have longer traditions. The oldest church here in Vienna is 1000 years old. In the US people usually deem a building old if it was build in early 1900s. Also we lost lots of buildings in the war or has to restore them very costly.

I agree especially with Villa Ipe that was designed by a well known landmark architect. Also the Senator Hotel was such a case. 
the Little Prince house is a slightly different case but yet annoying. The owners bought it and then filed for permit to tear it down with the milk-kneed preservation commission not being able to stop them in court (what are preservation regulations worth then?).
 

Either way, sorry to say, but in the US you can obviously generally buy yourself in or out any preservation rule if needed provided enough money or influence. It might take decades before people will understand what this loss of old heritage means.

SOLIZ HOUSE (6070 SW 128 Street) where they filmed exactly

As @C Glide probably will update this episode soon on his website, I will save him some time to dissect where they filmed the exterior scenes.

1: Jack Crockett drives up for the first time and walks from his car around the corner to the entrance

2: Jack climbs over the fence (the fence has been moved to the corner on current Google View, but it is at the original place in the shot of the designer who built the house)

3 (next day coming back): Jack sneaks around the corner

4: Jack watches Soliz´men unloading at the side entrance (hard to see on bird view due to a roof and lots of vegetation)

No interior pics of that house as is was not on the market recently, so we can´t match the scenes we see inside.

Nice pics (old=around 2000 and new) from Mike´s World of Waves aka Motel Ankara aka Waterside Inn aka Banana Bungalow at 2360 Collins Ave. Today it is the high end restaurant of the Gates Hotel.

the final scene then and now - the view is still clearly recognizable with the causeway, (some) buildings and the islands in the background. The current photo was taken from where the RED arrow is. In the episode they showed the angle with the YELLOW arrow. The same location was used in Mirror Image where Burnett killed the guys on the shoreline (GREEN area), but there camera angles where going west, northwest and north (with the small waterway between the park and the 79th street causeway. 

This is a location I wanted to visit in Miami last week, but could not make it on time. Maybe @Paul Verescan take some pics when he drives by next time?

Mayfair location used in the teaser

Interesting to visit the Mayfair yesterday in Coconut Grove (“French Twist”, “Jack of all Trades”,  “Too Much Too Late”). A new round of renovations have been just completed, after some closure, which leaves the spa and old restaurant area closed still. The suite (Swain’s) we see in “Too Much Too Late” has been divided up and walls altered but the balcony and Mayfair pattern remains , which we see in the episode, on the outside of the windows.
