C Glide
http://www.sffl.comcastbiz.netEpisode 41, Payback is now posted on my location web site. In this episode we do get a nice look at Bayside Market Place well into it's construction process.
Tom
great work as always. Congrats!production office was lucky that the prison was opened in 1985, a few months before Payback was shot (this location was later used in Walkalone and Forgive us our debts extensively). Compared to other correctional facilities, it had some VICE-like style to it.Your assumption that the restaurant scene (where C&T had to sit on a small table whereas Cates and Reydolfo sat on a big one) was shot at Frankie&Johnnies is right. Unfortunately, this place is long gone, so will not have the chance to produce current pictures to prove, but some circumstantials (interiors with glassbrick wall, location logistics) are enough for me to be sure.Looking forward to your addition of the last eps of season 2, which will include some nice locations too. I have been there but only on ground level. I kick myself because I had a guy working for me for a couple of years that lived there on one of the higher floors and he said come over anytime and take pictures and I never did. Maybe someday I will look him up because he probably still lives there.

airtommy
Sad news, fellas, another Vice location bites the dust. Reuben Reydolfo's house has been demolished. You can see the new house taking shape in this aerial (20 Harbor Point, Key Biscayne): http://binged.it/1QN22PW Switch to Bird's Eye View for a look at the old house. Dadrian
Does anybody know if the building for “Frankie&Johnny’s” bar is still there (at 1492 17th St in Lauderdale)? Google street view doesn’t seem to show any buildings that could have been the one, but I may be looking at it wrong. @Tom @airtommy @miamijimf @Matt5

airtommy
Quote Frankie & Johnnys, a bar and restaurant in Fort Lauderdale where several Miami Vice scenes have been filmed, combines it all -- neon, glass block, exaggerated columns, pastel colors and an art deco motif. This spring the sleek design, by S.W. Wells Design Associates of Fort Lauderdale, won an honorable mention from the American Society of Interior Designers. https://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/os-xpm-1986-09-12-0250300003-story.html Frankie & Johnny's didn't last long and in 1987 was replaced by Mahi Mahi: Quote Mahi Mahi, open only a few weeks, definitely has an identity crisis. But, then, what restaurant could avoid it, housed in an ultramod, art deco, ramble of rooms with neon everywhere and a huge bar up front? Built as Frankie & Johnny's, which lasted only a short time, the previous owners and operators had the same kind of problem -- what to serve in such a setting? https://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/fl-xpm-1987-11-13-8702050391-story.html Edited July 24, 2021 by airtommy

I tried really hard. The S.W. Wells ....design company does not exist anymore either. P.S. in this article the bar is also referred to as "restaurant". That proves that the scenes with Crockett, Tubbs and Reydolfo at the lunch table were also filmed there (CGlide has them as unconfirmed on his website). It was very likely anyway as there is no other fitting location in that episode, but now we have proof that it was not just a disco. Matt5
A nice current Day view of 28 Harbor Point (just off centre right) in Key Biscayne ( seen during opening credit title card in “Payback” and “Great Mccarthy”, “Trust Fund Pirates”) and 20 Harbor Point [picture 3] next door seen in the opening credits + party scene in “Payback”). Revenge of the nerds filmed in 1987, one year after MV and shortly before short lived Frankie&Johnnies closed. The mirrors we see behind C&T were gone in 1987, but the glass brick window and the corner where the table with Reydolfo was is the same. Tom
the party scene with Reydolfo at the pool preserved in some 2008 pics of that location (that was completely remodelled around 2010). The lamp in the corner, the floor pattern, the stairs, the pool, all looks like 1986.
