Great interview! Don looked great but I never thought I'd see the day when I thought he looked better clean shaven! That gray scruff just makes him look old.As for the movie, I'll pass. Thanks for the link!

Taped the interview, haven't watched yet, but saw a trailer for the movie. DJ's role reminded me of the one Burt Reynolds took in "Boogie Nights," and I saw parallels to their respective career stages, as well. Burt was taking a smaller, edgy part to appear relevant. (And later said he'd regretted taking the role, btw.)Just an observation.

If the trailer is any indication I'm sure he's regretting it already!

Do you think he took the part also because written by Adam Sandler? He seems to have some prestige in the business.

There's a preview clip of tonight's show posted on Conan's website (the full episode isn't up yet). Here are some screen shots from the preview:Eingefügtes BildEingefügtes BildEingefügtes Bild

Thanks for the screen shots Don looks incredible. I wish he was promoting something more interesting.

All I can say is I hope the funniest parts are just, lets say more R rated and cant be shown in previews. If thats not the case the movie will stink IMO, hope it doesnt take DJ down w/ it

So awesome to see Don on T.V.!!What strikes me is the self-deprecating humor. Is it a 1) form of humble flattery to endear himself to the audience? If so, why would that be necessary? He's Don Johnson. Or, 2) is it Vanilla Ice syndrome, where the personage feels it's vital to create distance between himself and the former works. Conan's jokes were funny, questions were relevant enough, but it's just not my favorite late-nite schtick anymore. Anyway - great seeing Don!!!

I can't believe DJ has gone from great TV shows such as Miami Vice & Nash Bridges and movies like Dead Bang & Tin Cup to playing a scuzzy looking porn movie producer who is a straight man for an ugly buck-toothed wanna-be comedian.:thumbsdown:He looked great in the interview & carried himself with class. He should produce his own movie along with PMT based on a present day Vice/Bridges Theme.

Perhaps he thinks that if he focuses too much on Miami Vice in a positive sort of way that it's like "bragging" and he’s worried he might come across as someone who is trying to keep their fame alive by dwelling on the show from 20 years ago that made them a star. I don't see it that way.I am in a generation of fans that was too young to be able to fully appreciate Miami Vice when it was originally on air (and therefore missed out on his interviews and appearances that he did back then). So I genuinely appreciate him talking about the show now. I really loved hearing him talk about South Beach & how it’s changed since they first started filming. And maybe he thinks that he can connect more with today’s audiences & the younger generation by poking fun at the show and his time on the show. Enough of the psychoanalysis lol - I'm not sure if he realises exactly how much of an impact the show continues to have & how it keeps gaining new fans. Maybe he needs to be reminded - by us here!!! (come on Don Johnson – come and pay us a visit !!!) ;) Gees, DJ is old enough to be my father (actually, he’s exactly the same age as my father) – but I am a massive fan. I don’t care if he’s 60 or 70 or 80 – he’ll still be DON JOHNSON. The epitome of cool :glossy::cool:

Thanks for posting the link mate. It worked fine.Always like Don in interviews. He has a very quick sense of humour. And can make fun of himself just as quick as anybody.

Watched the interview on tape yesterday. Heck, it was worth it just to see Conan refer to DJ as an "icon." I think the cars/bad writing comment was more a throwaway line and didn't seem to be specifically about Vice -- it was during an exchange about TV shows having hot cars. And DJ looked more robust and less haggard than I've seen him in quite a while, but still age appropriate. Not that plastic Barry Manilow-type look. He's been pretty active during TV pilot season (Southern Comfort and Mann's World in the past couple years), so maybe someday something will stick and he'll get the late-career boost like Tom Selleck is enjoying from "Blue Bloods."

Well if Don took the part because of Adam Sandler then he seriously might be losing it. Sorry but Adam Sandler is just another Ben Stiller. He plays almost the same character in every movie he makes. Don't get me wrong, I like some of his movies but Adam Sandler as a writer? I'm not feeling it.

Well....seems the ocelot ties are fashion again. And the white rubber band black shoes too.Funny how he talks "like" Sonny Crockett. I saw some interviews with Don from the eighties and i dont see any difference between Don and Sonny. And now you see, Don speaking almost in a "cartoonesque" style while he speaks as Sonny on that nike commercial.Seems Don is each time dealing better with his Miami Vice past, and this is great! And think someone with a fat ass who said time ago, Don is old...now we can see hes doing very fine.

It's cartoonesque like you said. It's seldom heard in other seasons for some reason, usually when Crockett's being a smart***.

I only could "feel" this cartoonesque style watching that orangebowl commercial for FOX. Even those "interrogation room days" on season 1 or 2, i thought Don acted very natural.
