Tom
A 1990 picture of the 227 1st Street house used in this episode and in Good collar. The comparison between 1990 and August 1986/January 1987 shows the difference that a paint job and nice set dressing makes. The color change of the neighbor house is an indication that VICE-like colors were more naturally used in SoBe in the 1980s than later when earth tones came in. The red roof & stairway grate on my soul. The photo on the left (MV screencap) looks softer and more pleasing because the red roof tiles are hardly visible and the entranceway is white. I wonder if that was intentional? Maybe the director said "No reds, no browns! Keep the roof out of sight as much as possible." This building would look a hundred times better if the roof tiles and steps were painted pastel blue or white.

This building would look a hundred times better if the roof tiles and steps were painted pastel blue or white. If you watch closely, they even extended the stairs of the building (the brick stairs that are brown now) - that visually adds to the earth tone look. But I do not assume that the 1987 look was a MV paint job. They simply removed lots of light/pink/white colors and replaced it with earth tones after the 80s. I found a 1988 shot of the 227 1st Street house. At this time the house was just like on TV with no brown extension of the entrance stairs on both sides.
