Tom
UNKNOWN LOCATION: THE SAUNA I am not convinced that this was filmed inside the Park Central as @C Glidesuspected on his website. There was no such stylish sauna in 1988. If it was a sauna at all. My pictures below show a few interesting clues: a pink/turquoise pattern on the wall and on the two steps to the surface Burnett is standing on. I´ve never seen such a floor with a sauna, but with a disco. there are ceramic tiles on the wall, but the floor and the steps plus the railing could also be part of a dance floor corner that was "mis-used"? The ceiling does not look sauna like either (smoke detector would not survive in this humidity/temperature, no tiles, but paint job?) There is IMHO no other location in this ep that could have served as this location too....(assuming that the style of this „sauna“ is not pointing to 3029 Brickell) Edited July 27, 2020 by Tom
Tom
UNKNOWN LOCATION: MEETING IN THE WOODS Even with adaptive lightning it is hard to see anything specific. Looks like a normal wood and a clearing. Most likely near other locations (Key Biscayne e.g. either around the light tower, or Crandon park or on Virginie Key near Jimbos). Cliff King´s car with "Lamborghini" written on it does not help either.

His car does not look like a Lamborghini but has in big letters „Lamborghini“ written on the car’s side with only the first four letters visible in most shots. That is rather unusual and a useless clue. That is what I meant. (I did not expect „Arthur J Lamb Road inspector“ or „Crandon Park Ranger“ on it anyway but it would have been more useful than this advertising ) Edited July 27, 2020 by Tom

You’re right: we do immediately think of exotic sports cars when the word “Lamborghini” is involved, but Cliff’s SUV is, indeed, a Lamborghini LM002.

Certainly not Crandon Park.

Certainly not Crandon Park. I tried to suss out the exact location and focused on the drive segment as the scene with the meet has no unique clues only trees and lot of car lights. I was baffled to realize the seeshore,i.e. an open beach very close left behind King´s Lamborghini, this means they come from the beach/from a dead end with some high vegetation to the right and stop after 50m again with high vegetation on the same side and low vegetation on the other and an open area in front of them. The Lamborghini uses a dirt road. Problem is: there is no location on whole southern part of KB that fits -because the only two dirt roads visible that come from the beach are southwest of the lighthouse and in this area is a stone wall in front of the sea, thus we would not be able to see the waves/the beach behind the Lamborghini. Th other parts to the west also have a wall or no trails to drive on and to the northeast there is no trail to drive either and the beach is too wide and the vegetation too low. I don´t think that was filmed there although location logistics of this episode and the woods/vegetation would fit. Tom
The only fit I can find for the driving segment on KB is on the north side of Virginia Key, just east of the sand dunes (see first pic). Here the distance to the beach and the vegetation matches as well as the open space at the end of the 50m drive. I am convinced that the drive scene and the meet underneath the trees were NOT filmed on the same spot (two different locations, maybe close but not one location). All other spots do not work (no roads, wrong vegetation), except two, but both do not qualify (on one there is a house, the other is too broad and too long to match what we see in the episode). Excellent job spotting the ocean! It could be the dirt road northeast of the lighthouse but south of the Lighthouse Cafe. That road is clearly defined today but hardly visible in 1986.

Even today that road does not fit in dimensions and surrounding. And they would have needed to remove vegetation/make that road exactly between 86 and summer 88. I still vote for the spot I showed above which is matching well in all dimensions and just a few meters east of another location of that episode.

There is IMHO no other location in this ep that could have served as this location too....(assuming that the style of this „sauna“ is not pointing to 3029 Brickell) I suspect that this sauna scene (and the kitchen scene with the shooters walking through) was filmed somwhere inside Reflections on the Bay (entrance is seen in upper left of episode still below). Reasoning; the pink/soft blue/metal guiderail style of the sauna and the size of the kitchen do not fit with the Park Central Hotel. Too big, too new. Reflections on the bay as location just for the short exterior snippet shot on the balcony with Burnett and Carrera does not make sense logistics wise either Reflections on the Bay was brand new at that time as the whole Bayside was opened in April 1987. Thus the new style seen fits better to Reflections than the Park Central. There is no other fitting location in this episode for that scene (the ex-Madonna home at 3029 Brickell has a completely different style) and the short sauna scene does not justify another crew travel to location. Unfortunately, Reflections on the bay was closed and remodelled in 1993 for the new Hard Rock cafe and I found no old pictures anyway to have proof of its interiors. Tom
Madonna´s ex-home, also known to us as the Carrera mansion at 3029 Brickell Ave was sold last week for 29m USD. Some scenes were shot at the neighbor property (3031 Brickell). It was promoted for the first time on the internet, which gives us -for the first time - great photos and a video tour with all interiors. See my selected episode comparisons below. Looks great! https://www.compass.com/listing/3029-brickell-avenue-miami-fl-33129/917327716472232521/ Click to enlarge. ENJOY! miamijimf
Beautiful pics. The mansion was also in three episodes of Burn Notice, Rough Seas, Seek and Destroy, and Square One as well as the movie Chains of Gold with with John Travolta and Marilu Henner.
Tom
MANOLO´S HIDEAWAY, 90% at 3031 Brickell Ave Marked as unknown on @C Glides website, I would say this ain´t a studio set, as the stairs in the background say no (nobody would built such stairs as it is unnecessary effort for a single short scene with lots of close-ups) and the other sophisticated details in the background. If it is no studio set, then it must be another location in this episode with the same logic (short close up scene) and there are not many that fit, i.e. only the Carrera mansion and its neighbor house. With this in mind, I found clues that this was filmed inside the neighbor house at 3031 Brickell. Key clues are the significant grooves and color on the walls. The same can be found on the pool house of the neighbor property and the neighbor house would fit with the style of the grooves and the concertina gate shown in the episode. Unfortunately, we have no close ups of that house but the 3029 (Carrera(ex-Madonna) house has no such grooves anywhere inside or outside, it has just flat walls and the kinked staircase does not fit there stylewise either. Thus 90% filmed at 3031 Brickell. See details below. Edited January 7, 2022 by Tom

Tom
as shown in the "Redemption in blood" thread, evidence suggests that the El Gato hide-away in both episodes (Hostile takeover and Redemption in blood, filmed consecutively) was in fact filmed in the Burnett villa at 710 Harbor Drive. The unique angle and width of the kinked stairway and the square shaped room around the kink fits exactly to the Burnett villa with its unique octagonal shape. Studio set can be ruled out at the same time, as build of such a kinked stairway is unnecessary effort for such a set that was never re-used later on. Tom
great air view on south Key Biscayne with the light house and the keeper´s house next to it as used in this and the next episode.
