Kavinsky Posted January 30, 2013 Report Share Posted January 30, 2013 hmmm if you ever gave me a choice between the daytona spyder/coupe the Ghbli and the TR I dont know I'd have to say daytona hands down.I'm just naturally tweaked into cars of that era, such as the cobra and the miura, the tr would be second though as the ghbli just looks too much like a flatboard to fall in love with it.never been a Maserati fan anyways, I like detomaso who owned them once though but that's about as close as I get to saying I like them.plus if its a convertible well you hear this in the morning once you give it some gas at 2:12 it may not be as masculine as the TR but you get more of that noise coming out of the back end!I'd honestly think of the daytona and tr as companion pieces really, if you could afford one you should get the other one along with it lol! Kavinsky Posted February 20, 2013 Report Share Posted February 20, 2013 Just found this of the TR yesterdayhttp-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=707SX1zQn98and also this one has all 3 in it, Miura, Countach, and TR but the TR is modded and its one of the few koenig ones to keep its lines over the air intakes at the 2:00 and 2:27 with a modded nose of the koenig models.http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZydlyEjuCJwand sounds like that countach needs a tune up lol, very cool to see them in an urban environment to show you just how different they look from everything else which is what all those special promo photos by the factoryactually remove alot of timesbut with the TR its kind of interesting how different it looks with the modded nose but the stock side gills, it actually looks sleaker which makes sense as the custom bumper does away with the two lips over and under the grill thus giving it a smoother, less boxy look in the closeups and also completes the angled look of the nose by pulling the front spoiler out a touch. not unlike the rockstar games version of the 512TR in the GTA gameshttp://www.igcd.net/vehicle.php?id=1427also gotta love the S1 daytona headlights on it with the koenig example, looks more in tune with it than it was on the daytona replicaand sorry about the political overtones and mixing it in here, I was in shock that he said that and well frankly I felt like Nash on radio dead air (with his radio show what the **** is wrong with you) after seeing that so I just felt I had to say somethingespecially when you know he's whole heatedly barking up the wrong tree, but ill keep it separate from now on with this one and leave it for my other thread, you know keep it pure and I apologize for doing that. its just when you know to the contrary that he is whole heatedly wrong and its about something you deeply believe in it kind of works its way into normal conversation even when it shouldnt of and I should have known better to keep it separateand for that I apologize. Kavinsky Posted February 20, 2013 Report Share Posted February 20, 2013 Also just to show you I'm not an old stick in the mud when it comes to modern car design there is new one or two out there that I like, its just not the usual suspects for methe Ferrari F12, an interesting blend of the old and new based on a concept of the opel GT in a way, the original from the 60's in interior design, namely build the interior around the driver, get the proportions correct and then style the rest of the carin which its funky skelitonzied charm is oddly enticing, and I say skeletionized as it really looks it, it seems bony the next is the new lotus exige S which sadly the US will not be getting because of our regulations here, namely that of no airbag and crash protection (really should make a law saying that you can sign that away so you can just enjoy what you want to enjoy) note the weight, 1900 pounds, 350 horsepower with the always underrated and forgotten 6 Cylinder motor. They have become similar across the board.As for being a skeleton interior, the F40 took it to extremes, a steering wheel, speedo and rev counter and a couple of swithches lol.I recently tweeted my wish list:Ferrari TestarossaFerrari DaytonaFerrari 599 SA Aperta drop topnow i really must put the euro lottery on!!!! Kavinsky Posted February 23, 2013 Report Share Posted February 23, 2013 Thanks man it just helps to rant once in awhile, its like a form of sanity maintenance plus it helps to put thought to paper so to speak and form new opinions and just straighten things out in your mind. not to mention I needed to do some soul searching for awhile there, still recovering after that disaster that happened in CT, not a 100% back to normal but I'm getting there hence my oversensitivty to what they've been showing on the TV lately.its just that it also has an inherent danger to alienate people when you speak your mind and after doing that you kind of have that little thought in the back of your head like should I have done that, should I have said that.will people take it the wrong way and take it personally? guess its just the inherent danger with being human and passionate about things you like, always have to say I think and not state things as fact unless you know it to be true.funny how much of a difference the I think bit has when it is just all I think when you come right down to it and being mature about it. after all nothing is really set in stone with anything, its always a building platform with thought and sometimes the base needs to be rearranged once you learn something is faulty or some new info that is pertinent comes into play. guess its kind of got a whole science vs religion thing going for it in a way, Science Is I know, relgion is I dont know and I just believe it to be so and naturally that kind of stuff is going to come into conflict.basically I'd say honestly I feel about 60 to 65% back, still sort of rewriting my personal doctrine after that and coming to terms with the stuff that I care about can be very black and white when it comes to its use. basically follow the lyrics of this song and that's kinda how I feelhttp-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=fiwGeDbkSsslittle by little.with the TR its kind of funny initially I was trying to get used to Sonny having a new car when the daytona got written out and well I've never been too big a fan of white, plus I was a countach kid when I was growing up, had the poster of it on the wall of an ironically white one.post 78 model, I remember that, had the flares on it.hell I honestly didnt know the TR existed until I came across it in vice and then I kind of started to see and appreciate the duality of the two cars, the daytona and the TR, ying and yang, male and female after getting over the daytona being written out and them missing out on such a cool color choice with the TR initiallyits very miura and countach like too and I've grown to like it and actually if I had a choice between the TR and the countach I would legitimately choose the TR like this guy:http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMM8i5nIQ00he also explains why the price is lower than that compared to the other ferrari's. turns out they made more of them than the 308 and 328 combined, the two most famous ferrari's out there when it comes to pop culture.guess that explains why on 5th gear the top fan favorite ferrari that was voted for was the TR out of all of them including the daytona, which they noticeably did not agree with. Tiff was more a fan of the 206/246and just had a shocked look on his face when it came in like 4th or 5th but it would have to have two or three modifications, two to the front end. namely replace the bumper with that of the smoother kind on that koenig mixed in with the stock spoiler sort of like this one: as those two lips up close just dont seem to mesh well with the rest of the body, next to the turn signals up closewhile from this angle the new car looks awesome, like the whole airport scene should have been its intro instead just with him ditching them once going into secondno need to speed it up (the film footage) and get the dummies to run into a truck, I'm pretty sure that thing is far faster in every regard than that FBI four door.just hit the highway and shift it into second, like switeck said when they were tracking it in irish eyes.Damn... he's taking the testarossa...if he shifts into second we're historyand I've got a thing with the body being smooth, I just like the cleaner lines of the front bumper of the koenig car and wish ferrari had adopted that themselves after seeing it, part of the reason why the typical 60's style of car design resonates so well(Corvette C2's a little 50/50, I like the roadster but not the coupe weirdly, on the C3 its reversed as I usually like the coupes better than the roadsters. )sat in a 75 red orange one like the above one as a kid, tomato orange with tan interior, wasnt impressed with it and I just remember feeling sorry for it as it looked tired and ugly in that combovery worn. anyways that applies to certain earlier or latter cars too weirdlyall of there cars have smooth free flowing lines and even the early viper had itweird thing is though there are certain exceptions, like the opposite end of it both cars here you know either cars that are a 100% smooth or a 100% pumped full of testosterone with smooth lines but big flares, hoods, tires and the likeits kind of hard to explain, guess the best way to put it is like sonny did in glades, I just like what I like and I dont like it when they only go midway between smooth edges and sharp edges like they do now and like that ugly abomination there calling a Corvette now I mean it really is the frankenstien monster, the bits I like off of it are from other cars that I a 100% like, like the Nissan Skyline GT-Rhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_GT-Rhell my reaction to it is not unlike this with the new C7http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MmqcFEnbaWMeven the nice new stingray badge was taken off of a far nicer C2 corvette concept car from 1959, theres not an original part of that design on there save for maybe the stingray top down view that you can see herehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:2014_Corvette_Coupe,_Cyber_Gray,_Right_Front,_Jan_17,_2013_Detroit_Auto_Show.jpganyways you kind of see where I'm coming from and what kind of defines my taste in auto design.With the F40 the weird thing is I intially didnt really care for it till I learned what it was, I was actually more in the porsche 959 camp.then looking at the thing I started to understand what it was trying to be, why it was like that and its grown on me.although the reason for that not initally liking it might be because well I dont really care for the wing on it and I've started to dilike superbird like cars like it sort of looks like:less and less over the years, mind you the wing really works and looks far more at home on the boats of vice than it does the superbird, although thankfully its far more tuned down on the F40but I'm more in tune with the 288 GTO truth be told, its forerunner in group B that never was, man that would have been a sight to see that thing battling audi quattros back then.mind you I wish someone would honestly take those over pronounced mirrors off it and purify the design abit, I mean I remember there being a periscope like rear view mirror on the early countaches but jesus that is taking it too far Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I can see the seats and the center console but why go with such an uninspired dash? did the designer just run out of inspiration for the dash and door panels?not to mention how claustrophobic the interior seems on a countach in general:http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtQPjgzV1kAkeep in mind I think Clarkson is about 6 foot and that this is maybe 38 inches above the ground, hell the woman in the photo seems to be in there pretty snugly and she's what 5 foot 4 without the heels?( and FYI the one from the passenger seat was one of the actresses from charlies angles, found it on the lambo section of the ferrarichat website, lotta cool shots of TR's, Daytonas and vintage lambos an other makes there) but anyways you know the window only goes down an inch with a rear window about the size of a letterbox and those buttons look like they belong in a kids play house or somethingactually compared to the miura the interior on the countach is kind of a letdown, guess that's where ferrari with the TR capitalized, still love it and its bodywork but its for those reasons the TR's grown on me vs the old countach which just seems like its best to leave it as a memory rather than make it a reality. while the opposite is true for the Miura, I want to go back to germany and see if they restored that poor yellow one and if not offer to do it for them.So anyways for me its gotta be this list288 GTO, the ultimate 308: as like my old man always said if you gotta be a bear be a grizzlya Slightly and Subtily moded TestarossaA Ferrari daytona, 50/50 if it would be a spyder or a coupe, with maybe a ferrari 550 barchetta as a backup with some sort of different rims on it if I went with a coupe, hate the stock ones on the 550. they just dont suit the carthe replica daytonagumball rally cobra, you just gotta, I love the fact that they found that car, its one of the few cars that has survived my childhood that I still love as much as I did back then as I do now.the Miura of coursemaybe the F12 once we see what the spyder looks likethat would be my top dream list honestly, I do love my mopars like the charger here: but they would be honestly much lower on the list given how much those cars get customized and ruined, hate those rims on that 68' and theres a 71 cuda coupe that drives around my home once in awhile in the summerthe Son of a bitch painted the thing bright ugly Plymouth Neon candy appleblue, put oversized chrome rims on it and just ruined the car, you buy a 71 cuda you LEAVE the stock dog dish rims on and dont change the tire thickness, you just dont mess with perfection when it comes to a car like that.breaks my heart to see some jackass ruin a good car like that. So its not that entirely hopeless in that regard.but that is the reason why such cars as the newer Miata and modern mercedes benzes have hard top convertibile tops that could be put on in a minute or so like the old Ford Farelane and that is why the early 190 SL series had a detachable hardtops.mind you with that fairlane that is why just like the early fuel injection on the 57 corvette you didnt see those on cars till much latter as well can you imagine how complex that damn thing is for 1955? next to how damn long it takes to put it up and down?hell with the daytona on the show you rip the tonau off, grab the two clasps and rip it forward and lock it into place like here at 3:41 and even the daytona replicas had those as an option but they were rarely bought when it came to the detachabile hardtops unlike the corvette ones where they usually did. Although atleast with the corvette you either have to go one way or the other with it as the T tops leak and were easily stolen so it was either a coupe or a convertibile for the two choices to go forI know as my mothers friend had a husband with a burnt orange corvette C4, had the top stolen 3 times while parked and the replacements all leaked so he could never drive the thing in the rain. atleast on the C4 corvette, not a 100% sure if that was the case on the C3, but I know that never happened on the 914 my old man hadwith the cars though, the old mopars and muscle cars I understand that they do need to be modernized but there is no need to repaint the thing in a garish ugly color and oversized 22 inch rims.Even if you have to fit wider tires you could offset that by lowering the car an inch or so to hide it and draw less light in under the car not unlike this onehttp-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Gaewg3RepUalso love how the damn licence plate nearly falls down to reveal the gas cap at 9:16 theretheres ways and means to make the thing better like he did there and he did it right without super modifying the car using existing means, honestly I hope he never does what he wants to do to that car after that.hell the only thing I would change is switch the turn signal lenses over on the grill to white to match the headlights on the exterior, interior I hate that fake wood grain on the door panels and would probably black it out like on this car but other than that its damn near perfect as is.as I got a thing where I like people to use exisiting somewhat period correct parts for it, I hate it when they say its got ford this, mopar that, chevy and the other thing.that is how you do a resto mod or like they did with this jaguar at 8:40 the same engine just from a slightly later car of the same lineage.
