@C Glidehas some office scenes marked as unknown on his website for this episode, but in fact all of the law office scenes were filmed inside the Greenberg Traurig Building at 1221 Brickell (also heavily used in the previous episode Hard Knocks for the casino and the Horowitz office). The window panes match, as are the door handles, the metal inside door frames and the floors, let alone the specific shape of the building front that is reflected in the window fronts that have the same shape easily seen from the inside. Click pictures to enlarge.

See my comparisons below.

THE UNKNOWN ESTABLISHING SHOT OF THE LAW OFFICE

This is for sure an archive shot from somewhere else as the interior is the Greenberg Traurig.

I thought I found the exterior as well. There is a federal government building in LA, the Edward Roybal Building at 300 N. Los Angeles Bvd that has a lot of striking similarities (purple marks: the number of windows, the last row, the vertical beams that are a bit sticking out), but also some NO GOs (red: the building on TV is much slimmer, the number of stories -11- is higher on TV than in reality and there is a canopy near the corner that is missing with the LA building). But the similarities are so strong that I suspect there might be a different building by the same architect (famous Welton Becket who also built the Capitol Racords building, the LAX structure and the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion) somewhere .....

There is a writing on the left upper side of the TV building, but I can´t read it.

P.S. I also searched in Miami first. No find.

UNKNOWN  ENRIQUEZ APARTMENT

Maybe we are lucky again and a picture in the background gives a hint and shows the location in question from above? I have searched downtown near 1221 Brickell for that higher and lower glass buildings close to each other but came up empty with a good match (there is a remote similarity of building shapes with 1101 Brickell but it ain´t it).

Any idea which highrise we see on the picture?

Or we ask the boom mike guy visible in the window where that apartment was? :funky:

Closing in on the unknown location of Enriquez home and the dinner penthouse....

  • both locations (the penthouse and Enriquez´ home with jacuzzi) are the same. The doorframes (5x2 frames) are completely identical.
  • what is new and a breakthrough: I found another hint I have never seen before. There are arches with a slim stone column on a facade visible in the background plus the morel shaped stone ornament (what is the architectural name for this?) on the trapezoid white wall behind Boyle. This should be visible from above and reduces potential buildings to a few older ones with such features.
  • The boathouse location is known, but I doubt that was the only location of this episode nearby, as it is far off for such small scenes. The boathouse had coral stone walls too (was torn down long ago) which gave me some suspicion at first that the main building on the lot could be the location of the penthouse.
  • The jacuzzi home of Enriquez is a 2 story home with a gallery on the second level and major light from above on the lower level (see two pics before the behind the scene boathouse picture), thus it is most likely a 2 story penthouse within an older building with coral stone walls.

I took a closer look to all buildings nearby which is hard as most buildings were not there in 1988. Only the Hughes Medical Estate building with pool that was used in Lost madonna (and is now the Duchesne campus of the Carrollton School at 3645 Main Highway) was there and on the same lot as the boathouse. I checked that building (see pics below) and it has some similarities with coral stone wall and color, but is lacking of any slim column arches or morel ornaments and has 4x2 window frames only. Thus I doubt that this is the place we look for.

The hunt goes on. I will focus on all potential buildings in Miami with such ornaments and arches.

GOTCHA! THE ENRIQUEZ VILLA AND THE NIGHT DINNER SCENE BOYLE-MADSEN IS FOUND  (SAME LOCATION)!

@miamijimf@Matt5@airtommy@C Glide@Dadrian@daytona365

All my hints above were true, especially that it must be close to the boat house, be a coral stone building so that the dinner scene on the roof can take place and has a balcony and second story. The dinner scene was filmed on the second story/roof, parts of it can be seen in the interior pic.

It is the historic Bryan house next to Villa Ipe (Ipe had a 3585 Anchorage Way address and the second lot next to it was 3575 Anchorage Way), both designed (and Bryan house renovated by) Kenneth Treister and shown in his book (see the book in the "Rising sun of death" thread!). And he has a picture of the whole room. Now it all makes sense! Including why they used the Evan house as establishing shot of that location (the exterior of the Bryan house was not vicey enough). See my comparisons below.

The description by Treister (see marked below) confirms where it was, that it was a coral stone structure and that it had the glass roof ceiling I suspected from the day scene. Also the jacuzzi with the significant blue edge pattern is there.

Below you can see that the Bryan house was very close to the boat house, actually the neighbor lot. But on the 1986 satellite the Bryan house/Villa Ipe was not built/renovated, thus we cannot see the 1987 state.

Alltogether, there was a great stretch of three adjacent locations on Anchorage Way (starting from Main Highway after the Chabad/former Bryan church: 3593 (posh house in Lost madonna), 3575 Bryan house (this episode), 3585 (Villa Ipe used in Rising sun and Jack of all trades), sad to say ALL THREE ARE GONE! What a shame!

Now this episode is fully complete location wise and two less on the last search list. We are down to below 20 episodes unknown. ENJOY!

P.S. I think the slim ancient column we see in the background of the dinner scene belongs to the former Bryan church, now Chabad. There is a part of the structure that has the columns and also the right angle. This would triangulate the dinner scene looking north parallel to Anchorage Way. See last pic below.

As these three locations next to each other are mostly gone and still quite a mystery I collected all facts we know now:

  • Posh house was next to the church/chabad (3593 Anchorage, address was on location sheet of Lost Madonna) as easily be seen in Lost madonna where Joey&Sal pull up to the house right after passing Switek at the gate. The gate is still there at the same place. On the other side of the posh house we see the distinctive wall of Villa Ipe next to it. The posh house is gone and was not on the 1986 aerial as it was built in 1987 or 1988 together with the Treister development on these lots. That has to do with the fact that Bryan owned all these lots next to the church and his family obviously sold it off as a package long after his death.
  • Then was Villa Ipe at 3585 Anchorage Way (squared roof on 1986 aerial, has been replaced with similar but different building). The exact location is proven by the hydrants we see in Rising sun of death when Castillo pulls up to park his car to meet Tanaka.
  • Behind Villa Ipe was the Bryan house (3575 Anchorage Way) as described by Kenneth Treister that the two adjacent lots were worked over by him and were connected (part of Villa Ipe were some auxiliary buildings of the Bryan house). The Bryan house was a coral stone structure and is still there - although it is doubtful that the center court still is recognizable as we see it in FOTPT as there are trees growing in the court and there seems to be no glass roof anymore-, although blurry on the Google street view. We cannot go further to get a better view on the 2nd floor as the Street view ends here. The Enriquez home with jacuzzi was the center court as described by Treister and the center court was there in 1986 on the aerial (we can even see a glass roof construction above the court, maybe the same as in MV and done by Treister in 1986 when this aerial was done?) and the whole building looks the same as 1986 today. On street view we see the coral stone and the same window types. The second story with the dinner scene was obviously on the southern side of the building overlooking the center court, as proven by the picture of Treister.

The last picture shows the former Villa Ipe location on the left and the Bryan house on the right. We see that both are very close, only the Villa Ipe is gone (new building built there after 1989, that´s the last time we see this location).

Awesome find!  I never thought we'd find the jacuzzi house.  Great mapping out of Anchorage Way locations.

Crazy thing is we had it already in June 2020 when I found the Treister pictures of the place in his book but we all overlooked it :p

as discussed in Golden Triangle (because of the same background building in both episodes): all scenes with Flyboy, C&T at the hangar and Boyle were filmed at Opa Locka airport (not fully sure on CGlide´s site). See below here as well for reference.

The only spot we have not found exactly is the small scene where C&T speed off in the Ferrari. It was filmed with the same background building as in Golden Triangle, but I have not found that building on the (historic and current) satellites. But that only this small snippet was NOT filmed at Opa Locka can be ruled out.

FINAL PROOF FOR OPA LOCKA AS THE C&T DRIVE OFF SCENE

See below. Both buildings in the background match, with the orange one also being present in the background of Golden Triangle. It belongs to the Florida Memorial Uiversity Campus at 15800 NW 42nd Ave, Miami Gardens at the edge of the airport and is the William Lehman Aviation Center building. That helped me to triangulate scenes in both episodes to get 100% proof.

ENJOY!

One last detail (before some close observer will bring it up anyway:)) @Matt5@airtommy

They did a little continuity glitch in one short scene between two cuts.

(before Cut 1 we see C&T at the Testa exactly as seen in Cut 2, on the phone with Castillo)

Cut /Picture 1: When Tubbs runs around the Testarossa to open the door we see a high line of trees behind them. Then it cuts to

Cut /Picture 2: Tubbs getting into the car, the Testarossa makes a 180 degree turn and speeds off

Cut 1 was filmed some 100 yards away on the premises than Cut 2. The glitch in geography can easily be seen by the fact that the Testarossa has the false background. If the tree line is parallel to Tubbs´ passenger side of the car, then the second cut where the car starts after Tubbs closing the door and makes the U-turn is impossible as the diagonal taxiway is suddenly on Tubbs´ side where the trees just were a second ago.

I show exactly what they did below. I assume they decided to film the second small snippet in the last minute and no one paid attention that the car position does not match up with the other scenes. I guess the editor of this ep had a hard time in the editing room in trying to cover this up. The jump cut timing when Tubbs is closing the door is perfect, but the changing background is impossible to conceal.

They filmed all scenes with C&T waiting, calling Castillo and driving off at one spot north of the hangar, just a bit left of the diagonal taxiway with the two-roofed University building in the background (second pic with red "X" south of the hangar as I turned the satellite around for better comparison). After the U-turn the Testarossa is heading for the southeast end of the taxiway and the end of the airport premises

Only the short snippet with Tubbs running around to the passenger side was filmed in front of the tree line next to the airport fence (red "X" on the first pic). That´s why the red STOP sign is there to warn incoming cars from entering the end of the apron that is leading to the diagonal taxiway. because that is where planes are parked and approach the taxiway. We can even see the corresponding yellow X-shaped apron marking below the Testarossa for reference. I marked this in purple on the picture(s).

Now the last detail mystery of this episode is solved and documented, ready to be picked up and incorporated by C Glide on his website :p

Great work @Tom and Thank you for all the detail, when we visit these sites we can use these comparison shots to pinpoint exactly on the ground. So this is very close but on another side of the airport to the teaser and opening credits of “Evan”.?

If so, I have been very close to the “FotPT” location here.

I believe the stock footage of the office building (likely) LA location is the only outstanding unknown location. I thought I had found it off Wilshire near Hollywood on the ground but it didn’t quite match up.

You´re welcome. It bugged me that we could not say exactly where they filmed in FOTPT and Golden Triangle airport was unsure completely, so I dug deep into this until all was explained.

I added a complete picture of the old airport (1986) below to show you where they filmed in each episode. In fact, they used all areas of the airport that can be used by a film crew without shutting down the airport completely by disturbing normal flight operations, i.e.start/landing/taxiways (main buildings and runways are in the western half and Opa Locka had nearly as many landings as Chicago O Hare in the 60/70s, thus it was a system critical airport back then), i.e. the whole eastern half.

It is important to mention that the Evan area (blimp hangar) was not only used in Evan, but also in Phil the Shill and To have and to hold (plus used as exterior establishing shot from archives in Missing hours)

A personal visit will not pay off anymore as they rebuilt the eastern half completely and all VICE sites are gone (the Sun line hangar in FOTPT, the blimp hangar in Evan was where the huge Amazon warehouse is now, the parking area used in Down for the count 2 for Danny Allred´s plane is gone).

P.S. I found the the Edward Roybal Building at 300 N. Los Angeles Bvd further up on this thread page for the lawyer office exterior, and it is a 90% match, but there are some NO-GOs that exclude it. Due to the 90% matches I assume that the correct spot is somewhere else but with the same architect behind to explain the 90% match in structure, color, layout, etc.

The rare BTS shot below from that episode also confirms the Greenberg Traurig building as location for the lawyer office. As a nice coincidence we see the blueish outer hull of the building through the window, while First AD Chip Chalmers is discussing the next scene (Crockett confronts Matson) with a crew member.

No find.

Bildschirmfoto 2021-05-24 um 13.28.49.png

Bildschirmfoto 2021-05-24 um 13.15.28.png

I have a better suspect now, the Executive Complex in Downtown San Diego (Broadway/2nd Ave).  Built in 1965.

Main criteria fit: Number of windows in a row and the number of segments on the bigger and the smaller side of the building (3x4).

Two things that create some doubt still: the number of stories seems to high (on TV we see 11 stories ABOVE the concrete canopy) and the canopy that I cannot find. But: the building has been massively renovated and does not look like on TV anymore. The 2008 Google Streetview and archve shots show the original state that looks like on TV.

P.S. I found half a dozen of similar looking buildings in several US states, but most rule out with the number of horizontal segments on each building side (3x4 or more) and the number of windows in a row (6).
