gstien
Return of The Jedi Lar?But it has......little bears in it!Who's afraid of cuddly little bears? The Empire let them win, there can be no other explaination.Luke knew that in episode 4, when they got away from a star destroyer. Face the facts Lar, the Empire IS NOT afraid of little bears. Especially Grand Admiral Thrawn. If you are a true Star Wars nut, you will know who he is.

ROTJ isn't so bad. Hardly New Hope or ESB goodness, but still better than a lot of the 80's crap I've come across. Can't say I know who Thrawn is. I like the original (IMO "only") Star Wars trilogy, but I'll never claim to be a nut. But then, I do have the Holiday Special and a sealed ESB-era Luke figure, so maybe I am and don't even realize it!

Kavinsky
Put the trailers here for the less famous of the bunchThe Long Good Friday John Woo's The Killer Makes the gunfights in vice look like there moving in slow motion!Year Of The Dragon: La Femme Nikita, came out about two months into 1990 but it was still made in 1980s nonethelesshttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6B8JXYI3He8Star Trek 2 (could probably quote the film word by word at this point, but the line that gets me is at the end with Deforest, he's never gone as long as we remember him, seems to apply really well to life and death and learning to live with the loss of a loved one or a friend)Star Trek 4The TerminatorBlade Runner (still remember EJO's haunting last words in it) a slow burn but a good one.First Blood, really wish they had stuck with the original ending, seemed to fit the films tone and bleakness better, plus Michale Talbot as one of the deputies Die Hard, of course, welcome to the party pal!For your eyes only, this bond film actually focuses on reality like the best ones of the Connery era did, kind of a redo and rework of From Russia with love mixed in with parts of the books and my god the bond girl in this one is absolutely stunning. The Living daylights, lovabile alone for its John Barry score based around its kick ass title songLicence to kill, what can I say? I agree with Q, dalton was the closest film bond next to the bond in the books in alot of regards, I kind of see Dalton as the ideal old bond and Connery as the ideal young bond when it comes to the books, Daniel's literally just bond if he was 006 from goldeneyenot a man serving his country, just a thug for hire. How is the audience supposed to empathize with that?Scarface: First you get the money, then you get the powerThief (1981) while the ending seems to be a put up job and predictibile the rest of the film is just stellar and the tangerine dream score alone is enough reason to see this film City Heat, kind of predictable but funEscape From New York, still kind of think that were heading towards that kind of future in the states honestly.Big Trouble In little chinaThey LiveThe Hidden. The Blues Brothers, its a 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, its dark and we're wearing sunglasses, hit it! and christ every blues or soul guy or gall who ever did good music back then is pretty much in it!
ArtieRollins
My 10 favorite 1980s movies by year: 1980 Maniac (William Lustig) 1981 Escape From New York (John Carpenter) 1982 Blade Runner (Ridley Scott) 1983 Videodrome (David Cronenberg) 1984 The Terminator (James Cameron) 1985 Re-Animator (Stuart Gordon) 1986 Manhunter (Michael Mann) 1987 Planes, Trains & Automobiles (John Hughes) 1988 The Accidental Tourist (Lawrence Kasdan) 1989 Christmas Vacation (Jeremiah S. Chechik) It could easily be an almost entire Arnold Schwarzenegger list since Conan The Barbarian, Commando and Predator are right up there with The Terminator but I reduced it to just one Arnie film. Had the same "problem" with John Carpenter as almost everything he did back in the 80s turned out to become great. ArtieRollins
I just love "Planes , Trains and Automobiles " such a funny and heartfelt movie . I think it's probably the finest hour of not only John Candy and Steve Martin but also for John Hughes as a director and writer.John Candy proved that he could be more than just the funny big guy or sidekick and people began taking him more serious. The same goes for Hughes who were an easy target after making one suburban teen comedy/drama after another, but this time he silenced his critics big time.Steve Martin were great but this was John Candy at his best. The Academy Awards snubbed him for a nomination that year, but this was the time when Sean Connery won for his role in The Untouchables. Then again I never hear people talk about or quote Jim Malone, but whenever Del Griffith's name is mentioned you can almost see the light in their eyes lit up and suddenly everybody remembers their favorite Griffith quotes and scenes. From 03:43 might just be one the best scenes in movie history. Edited August 13, 2014 by ArtieRollins
