After the massive cliffhanger in the wedding episode  of the two moronic music executives asking what to do with Caitlin, this follow up episode does very little in making this boring storyline exciting. Miami Vice goes to L.A ... great. I realised this episode how much style the show has really lost over the years, this is a very bland episode with very few interesting shots except the house at the end. In addition to lacking style, the episode lacks storyline substance. It's pretty ridiculous in places. That all said it's better than Like a Hurricane for the following reasons. The Hammer/Peterson soundtrack is pretty decent, Dirty Laundry is a fantastic song and the shoot-out at the end was fantastic. But overall it's a pretty dull episode and shows how much traditional vice style the show had lost by this point. It could very easily be a completely different TV show except for the title credits. Therefore, agreed with Timm525 on a score of 5/10

This is actually Part2 of "Like a Hurricane." That episode is one of my favorites but this one outshines it because of the final shootout. First, I dig the color coordination of clothes, buildings & other surroundings both in L.A. & Miami. Caitlin's Pink leather Jacket blended nice with her black hair. Her house with abstract paintings & her & Sonny's clothes are beautiful. I paint so this interests me! Escort who met Cait in L.A. looked like Crockett when he was undercover as a nerd in Seas. 1. I took note of Sonny ordering a Blackjack, straight up at the bar. Real cool when he blew Ralph Slick's cocaine sample across the table! Tubbs is a good pal, bringing Sonny Chinese food & beer in Miami. By the way, Cait's friend is also very nice. Nice shot of Crockett's red helicopter on a scale at his desk at work. Sonny & Caitlin have some surprisingly suggestive talk with double meanings by phone! Fremont's line "Rent a Ferrari, how L.A." cracked me up. The hotel entrance there was beautiful! Also liked the chic rollerskating past the graffiti wall. Music: "Kick 'em When They're Up, Kick 'em When They're Down was cool & perfect for the story. So was the music during the photo-shoot turned shoot-out! The shootout was reminiscent of the one in Caroline's home. When Crockett kicked the gun away from the photog/hit-man, you get a good pic of those white leather loafers. Nice! I had to re-play the ending to see Crockett putting a fresh clip in his gun on the run out to the car, since he used so many bullets in the house. Good thing he went into the photo session with Caitlin, it saved her life! As you can gather, I like this episode & I rate it a 9.5/10. For this poll, I give it a 9 rating. Unlike most MV fans, I like Sheena Easton

I think around this time they were trying too hard to not have the cop drama stuff such as undercover work we saw in previous seasons, it kind of takes the Vice out of Miami Vice, the relationship between Caitlin and Crockett was a questionable move by the writers, he is a Vice Cop after all.Score: 5 out of 10.

CinematographyEingefügtes BildThis shot SO rocks. A little bit better a moment earlier when you can clearly see the phone booth.

Overall, I can only cast a 6 on this episode. And the instrumental tracks inserted were not the most inspiring. However, the montage with Don Henley's 'Dirty Laundry' ,by itself, would merit a 10 from me.

on this one I liked the story and the fact the continued on the issue with caitlin. what I don't like at all, actually what really annoys the heck out of me is caitlin being all over sonny about doing his job! what is her problem? she knew he is a vice cop, knew what she was gettin in to and now all she does is complain about it, expecting him to accept and tolerate her job but whining about his! and he keeps saying sorry..for what? sonny turning into a little wuss here, really hurts his image getting all soft. too bad he went to that photo shoot with her....

I have a music question about this episode. What song is playing in the scene showing Sonny & Caitlin riding in the limo together after the damaging tabloid story has been published, when Sonny is saying "Maybe I should go to the papers and tell them I'm really a cop", etc.? I looked up this episode in the Glossary, and only saw the other recognizable songs from the episode. Does anyone know?

A friend of mine is in this episode, she's sitting behind Don Johnson & Sheena Easton on the plane to L.A. She was an extra and didn't get paid, but she did say Don came up to her before shooting that scene and said "Are you sitting with me?" and she replied "No, you're sitting with me!"

That's awesome...a superb memory for her I'm sure! :thumbsup:Anyway, I like this episode...it's sort of the sequel to "Like a Hurricane". I love the storyline that Crockett's alter ego, Sonny Burnett, is supposedly exposed and this one realistically shows what life can be like as a celebrity...lots of lies and innuendos to "twist" the truth. However, both should have known what they were getting themselves into. ;)But, I do like the issues that arise between Sonny and Caitlin, with both their jobs. Crockett's whole dislike for his wife's celebrity stuff cracks me up...as in real life Don Johnson was most of what his character claimed to hate. Such is Hollywood. :)The creepy nerd in the glasses, Caitlin's press agent??, annoys the heck out of me though...he should have been more "dork meat" for Elvis. :p But, I love the acting by both Don and Sheena in this one, and it's a little more serious. Both love each other...but are dedicated to their careers as well. How they deal with it, and try to make their marriage work was very well done! I don't care for Caitlin's hair dew...but I still like her character. The action in this one is awesome!! :D I LOVE the photography set-up with the hitman/woman...then the superb shootout at the end! Freemont and Wiggins really show their "evil" side in this, despite their corny dialogue and goofy looking jogging attire. How Crockett and the OCB discovered they were known to kill anyone in their way, was pretty cool...and I love Sonny's description of them...a couple of "tube steaks". :) Ah...how I miss the days when foul language and raunchy or perverted words were not allowed on TV yet! Anyway, I liked Freemont and Wiggins as the "bad guys" for a change...something different than always some drug dealer, punk. The music in this was pretty good...with Dirty Laundry by Don Henley, the classic Devil With a Blue Dress On by Mitch & The Detroit Wheels Ryder, and Don't Dream It's Over by Crowded House! Jan Hammer's themes as always are "MV" in its truest sense. :radio: I also loved the colors and fashion for everyone...the pastels & whites were superb! :glossy:Along with "Like a Hurricane", I voted this one an 8!

I thought the twist of events was good writing in how Crockett's cover in being Burnett would publicly jeopardize Caitlin's career.  Before this episode, the audience is told that she's semi-retired (from "Like A Hurricane") and not particuarly relevant in the Top 40 music scene, but her single turns that upside down when her single and new album exceeds Caitlin's and the record company's expectations.  The episode was somewhat of a detour from the standard Vice format since this episode focuses on Caitlin's life and career far more than the main cast of Miami Vice, but at the same time, it was needed to take the focus off of her character (with her going on a national tour) so that it wouldn't interfere with the tone of series.

The big problem with this episode is that the series completely abandons the whole fervor over the scandal of Caitlin's marriage to "Sonny Burnett" which frustratingly remains inconsequential.  But... then again, there are a LOT of plot holes concerning how Crockett is able to maintain his cover as Burnett for so long.

Another significant problem is that Caitlin's presence wouldn't be seen as so intrusive if the series didn't underuse a lot of the cast (particularly with Stan, Gina, and Trudy) and their friendships with each other.

Again, it was a good episode that revealed the deeper strain their marriage faces, and although her screentime was more than expected or desired, it was somewhat necessary to help transition the focus off of her, to resume the focus back on the main cast of Miami Vice.

This episode was terrible. First off, the marriage deal between Sonny and Caitlyn is already a weak thing. What is a Vice detective doing out in the record business? This one is quite a stretch and tries to piece together a plot hole from the wedding episode but manages it poorly.

Just when you thought Sheena Easton was a terrible actress with poor acting skills, this one is even worse than the previous display.

Another thing, where did everything take place? The record manager talks about a photo shoot at 8, but the deal with Burnett is at 11 in Miami. Are they in Miami or LA? This episode is so poorly written and they skip around too much.

I'm going with 2 out of 10 here; the scene with the song Dirty Laundry is enough to warrant it an extra point, that was brilliant camera work and showing off the sleazy places we had not seen in a while, kudos for another shot of 'Sex World'.

Really like this one. Has a real MTV Cops feel lol. Like it better than Like A Hurricane.

I like the scenes between Sonny and Caitlin in this one.

Freemont and Wiggins were annoying. In a good way. What the hell was up with their jogging attire.

Great music. Love the Dirty Laundry montage. Also really like the end with Don't Dream It's Over.

Cracked up when Sonny blew the coke away. Your reputation sucks.

As usual great scenery.

Absolutely love the ending with the photography and shootout. Pure class.

8/10

I think this just goes to show how difficult maintaining this marriage is going to be in reality, in spite of all the good intentions and determination to try.  In all fairness, Caitlyn knew she'd have to worry about Sonny's safety and spend long periods separated, but she didn't bank on his alter ego's reputation being the thing to derail her career, so I think she has a right to be upset.   Sonny apparently didn't take this much into account either, or maybe just hoped it wouldn't happen and so all he can say is sorry when it actually does.  I don't think he's being soft.  He's a man desperately juggling a lot of issues at once and trying to make it work with his wife whom he loves.  By extension, as Robbie C. said, Caitlyn is Sonny's last grasp at any domestic connection and he is losing, which makes this ep actually more important and poignant than it first appears.  That final shot pulling away from Sonny standing alone is incredibly symbolic (as well as the tinted window going up as a barrier now) as he watches that last chance finally pull away and we are pulled with it leaving him in isolation with an empty house.

Don't Dream It's Over by Crowded House always gets to me and this ep is impoved by that alone imo.  Also, as much flak as Sheena gets for her acting, her friend Angie is a helluva lot worse.

I always thought Sonny had merged so far into Burnett by this point in the series it likely didn't even occur to him. His mindset from "Definitely Miami" is long gone. Burnett is no longer a cover...he's Sonny in ways we see in the Burnett arc. Caitlin was his last chance. I remain convinced this is true, which is why I like Sheena's acting. She conveys the passion and the feeling Sonny's last chance should have, not the measured disdain of Carolyn or the analytics of Brenda. She's pure emotion and feeling.

Bren10 and Robbie C., you have both brought up some good points about that episode and the Sonny-Caitlin relationship itself that hadn't really occurred to me before, but make a lot of sense.

not only that, taking the photo shoot jeopardized Sonny's cover.
