Episode 18 - Made For Each Other

just a reminder what was discussed in the Golden Triangle thread which used the same bar in both episodes which was a clue to find it.  

The strong suspect is Flynn´s Ocean 71 which was seen behind C&T in "Golden Triangle" when they pulled up at Menton´s place. It was a popular and shady bar and music joint for punk bands from 1983-85 at the corner of Collins and 71 Street, interestingly with a 6985 Collins Ave address. Building still stands, the bar is an Argentinian restaurant now. With this bar we have found all locations in this episode.

Sorry Matt but the Tropicaire was NOT seen in MFEO(as shown in this thread earlier), it was the North Dade Drive In in Miami Gardens!

Noogie´s bar is confirmed now 100% for Golden Triangle and MFEO.

See new detail matches below that I overlooked earlier.

No way that the white structure plus the door and its relative location to it below in the same color plus the diagonal pattern within the door are all coincidence.

Location shifted from strong suspect to found. Flynn´s 71 Ocean, 6985 Collins Ave. The bar was open from 1983 to1985 (intel based on the Facebook group of the bar where also the picture on the left below is from), which is another key match.

An interesting detail to clarify the suspected break-in location of Izzy in this episode. The address 221 14 Street did not deliver back any company name, but the address 1402 Collins Ave on the other end of the property does. 

What we see in the 1986 aerial is Macar Enterprises Inc which was a car repair company with a 1402 Collins head address, but the car park was at 14 Street (what we see on aerials is not the typical parking scheme of supermarket customers, but the double parking scheme of a car repair shop), at the corner of 14th Street and Collins Court. Thus, also the "221" at the rear (NE-corner) of the building makes some sense, as 221 14 Street was the side building where the customer cars were dropped but the side building could be accessed from the Collins Ave side as well, alongside the low wall that we see in the scene parallel to the N-side of the side building. It seems the main office building was the one on the Collins Ave side and the one with the car park was the mechanics´ building only.

Anyway, Macar Enterprises was incorporated in 1974 and dissolved in November 1986, just 1.5 years after filming MFEO.

P.S. the interior scene looks like a studio set. It´s too color coordinated, too clean for a "pet shop".

 

 

 

 

I did some research onsite for this long gone location and I found an interesting historic plate where the mechanics store once stood on the NE corner of Collins and 14th. See picture. Before the auto mechanics store there was an „Egyptian“ gas station until 1971.

there is nothing left as all the prior buildings have been replaced, but I walked the place around Collins Ct (where Izzy came from on TV) and I am 100% convinced this was the place (exterior Izzy pet shop breakin, the interior was studio), going by the 1986 aerial and the dimensions found on site. Only 1 block from Warsaw ballroom where they filmed the teaser until sunset and then proceeded here. Also no one ever produced any alternate location or aerials with same or better fit.

Noogie´s Bar (Howdy Club, 1716 Alton Rd)

As we know from the Golden Triangle location call sheets, this bar was the location in both episodes. The building of 1948 was remodelled and a new neighbor building attached after 2015. I found some rare interior pictures of the time before 2015 when there was a shop called Casa Chameleon there in the front towards Alton Rd (see also historic Google street view below). We don´t have pics from the middle building part where the Club was, but the long (back)entrance hallway from Alton Court where Switek&Zito entered is still there and we have a pic from the interior and the exterior door (see below). The Club was in the middle of the long building. Going by the name "howdy" and Florida´s history of "Howdy" establishments this was a kinky underground club, today we would say for LGBTQ, some extras in the wedding scene, especially the minister underline that assumption. See rough sketch below. I save these pictures here to save them from future extinction.
