He does  In the pilot I think he is nursing a hangover, drinking very heavily at the beginning of the show.

Very true. He definitely had that "half-in-the-bag" look, as Scottie Wheeler would say. I also read that the woman in charge of MV costumes would leave Crockett's tee shirts and jackets in a pile on the floor, so that they would have that  carelessly wrinkled beach bum look.

Don Johnson originally wanted his character in jeans, leather jackets and denim jackets. In Season 5  he got his wish. The Season 5 “Line of Fire” look of the denim jacket, ripped tee and off white trousers is a good look.
