  2. Great eye! @C Glide said this looked like a set but wasn't sure. This confirms it 100%.

  3. The Architects Who Made Miami ‘Magic’ No one has expressed Miami’s glamour, boldness, and precarious beauty quite like Arquitectonica Adam Nathaniel Furman https://www.citylab.com/design/2018/09/the-architects-who-made-miami-magic/569245/

  4. One segment of my computer/pseudo-work desk. (I’m retired, after all.) Challenge coins from 2 of the 3 places I worked, an old neck badge from my favorite employer, and some knuckles a perp tried to dent my head with several years ago. Been wanting the red heli for a long time, and you all recognize the ID and badge. Just one part of my geeky little happy place. Stay healthy pals!

  5. Just coincidentally watched Death and the Lady and Asian cut within 2 days apart and stumbled across a detail. The green/white mural wall of the run down apartment building where Tulane Knox lived in DATL (picture 1), looks similar (not fully the same though) as the green/white wall of the Betsy Hotel in Asian Cut (picture 2 with Sandy standing in front of it). I doubt that it was the Betsy as the wall ornamental pattern is different, the entrance stairs C&T are using do not match, Knox room is too run down even for the Betsy in 1987 and the inner yard is too narrow for the Betsy, but I figured: how many green white walls with ornaments were there in total in 80s South Beach Art Deco District? Must have been very few. Unusual color scheme. I tried to find old pictures of the Betsy interior or other 80s green houses around but no luck. And then to add up to the green mystery: the scene where Sandy meets her killer in Asian Cut. Unknown location with a room 603, means 6 floors. Very rare in South beach and again green as all the doors are green in this hotel. maybe @miamijimf or other buffs like @airtommy have a clue but a green/white colored Art Deco building must be findable?!

  6. Wow, great stuff! I totally agree with you. This might be my favorite MV review I've ever read. The review is very short, but every single point he makes is excellent. I disagree slightly here. I think the visual style and cool soundtrack hit home more than anything else. That's what captured viewers. It was like a one-two punch. Once the viewers were drawn in by the flash, Vice hit them with the film noir themes of futility. But many viewers just tuned out that deeper level of the show. The same thing happened with the 1987 movie "Wall Street". Many people in finance loved the movie. It inspired young people to go work in finance. How is that possible? Easy! They just ignored the dark themes and enjoyed the flashy parts of the movie. Of course, the balance between the two dynamics varied greatly from one Vice episode to the next, and from one season to the next.

  8. As C& T race to Gina in this fine late fall 1988 episode there is some stock footage on the A1A of the Testarossa heading south quickly. This is different to what you see in “Blood and Roses” and other episodes as there is a striking sunset so filmed late in the day. I have got a photo of this location - but I’m pretty sure how the road curves around to the right so sharply and the size of the small road island it’s in the 5000 block looking south.

  11. Great analogy with Wall Street. Gordon Gecko was an immoral sleaze but he became the popular face of that film. I think Michael Douglas just looked too handsome and sophisticated to be perceived as the truly bad guy he was by many viewers.

  12. Great post - I would love to find that Death and the Lady location - it definitely is not the Betsy as I’ve had a good look in there. With reference to the 603 bedroom and 6 floors in South Beach in Asian Cut -I wouldn’t be suprised if this was indeed the Park Central Hotel we see in this episode as they have 6 floors. The roof scene also has a green - white tiling.

  13. Here's an old photo of the Casablanca Hotel 6345 Collins Ave, probably early 50s. It's still there. I think the front with the unique statues/columns looked the same in 84 when you see the hotel briefly in Heart of Darkness. The logo you see at the top of the building in Vice is the same as you see in this old photo. Is this unique front captured somewhere in Vice? Can't find it. If it wasn't, it should have been since it is striking and cool looking. Heart of Darkness:
