  1. The Asian Cut scene where Sandy meets the killer: I found this photo of a hallway in the Park Central Hotel. The louvered doors and the pipe running at the top of the wall are the clinchers. This was definitely filmed at the Park Central.

  2. Sad to hear, he was a magnificent actor. Great as Sheriff Teasle in "First Blood" and even better again in "To Catch a Killer"

  3. I always asked myself anyway whose smart idea it was to guard a safehouse(!) - in essence a secret location that nobody in the neighborhood should be aware of - openly with an M16??? That’s tactical nonsense irrespective of done by police or military. Castillo hopefully not. PS smart move would have been to place guards inside the garden. behind the wall. Hard to be seen from outside and much harder to attack or to neutralize, especially without warning the people inside the house.

  4. Haven’t they taught there how to remotely access the location database at NBC Universal in LA? I just think that capability could turn out very helpful now and cut some corners

  5. I'm just glad to know the 7 years I spent earning my Ph.D. at the acclaimed Location Forensics Academy in Bern, Switzerland hasn't gone to waste.

  6. Based on Castillo's office where we see similar construction, chair rail and 4 panel windows I would guess this has to be a small set as it's easier to control the outside environmental lighting. I don't see a hotel using chair rail. I would also venture to guess, it was probably also used as an office of some sort in other episodes. We also see the familiar 4 panel window here, backside of Castillo's office, on this picture and also in the short video Talbot shot of the set.

  7. The first photo comes from "Leap of Faith" and the second from "World of Trouble" as @Matt5 mentioned.

  8. Wow, great stuff! I totally agree with you. This might be my favorite MV review I've ever read. The review is very short, but every single point he makes is excellent. I disagree slightly here. I think the visual style and cool soundtrack hit home more than anything else. That's what captured viewers. It was like a one-two punch. Once the viewers were drawn in by the flash, Vice hit them with the film noir themes of futility. But many viewers just tuned out that deeper level of the show. The same thing happened with the 1987 movie "Wall Street". Many people in finance loved the movie. It inspired young people to go work in finance. How is that possible? Easy! They just ignored the dark themes and enjoyed the flashy parts of the movie. Of course, the balance between the two dynamics varied greatly from one Vice episode to the next, and from one season to the next.

  9. As I mentioned in another topic, in the beginning of the second half of the pilot, you can faintly hear a song playing in the background as Crockett and Tubbs ascend the staircase at the Versace mansion (Leon’s apartment). Today I finally remembered to listen to the isolated soundtrack and identify the song! Here it is!!

  11. NEW LOCATION FOUND: SOLIZ HOUSE CGlide´s and my original hunch that the Soliz house must be in the Pinecrest area (due to size of garden, lack of water and distance to neighbor houses) turned out to be true. Today, I did a tour-de-force and checked all houses in that area via satellite one-by-one, looking for the unique pool layout and the unique building layout with the narrow parallel structure. It took me 1 hour to find: Result: 6070 SW 128 Street. The sat pictures (2D and 3D) below say it all.

  14. Phony/dead gator at the beginning of the video - 95% sure. They can be docile if they are well fed and recognize the person/situation but it is risky especially in the water.

  16. Great post - I would love to find that Death and the Lady location - it definitely is not the Betsy as I’ve had a good look in there. With reference to the 603 bedroom and 6 floors in South Beach in Asian Cut -I wouldn’t be suprised if this was indeed the Park Central Hotel we see in this episode as they have 6 floors. The roof scene also has a green - white tiling.

  17. Mr. Vigilante: Thanks much. I’ve been retired for 3 years this month. Wouldn’t go back today, even for the kind of money they are paying Don Johnson!
