  3. I try to bring some light: The non US DVD Releases aka the European DVDs have the Pilot not as movie versions. I believe its the syndicated two part version which is shortened in some scenes. The only European DVD Set i know with the pilot as Full Movie Version is the Definitive Collection Best Of Set. RedDragons Season 1 DVD set is from the UK. So it has the Pilot as shortened two parter. All Full Movie Versions of the pilot should have all those Scenes. I have two German VHS Recordings. One from the eighties and one from 1993. BOTH have all those Scenes. The German Season 1 DVD has the Pilot as 2 Part version and is missing them. Also in television today they only show the 2 Part version They really only should be missing in the two parter version of the pilot.

  4. I got an email from Automobile Magazine this morning. The email listed several stories from the magazine - one being "The Story Behind the 1972 Ferrari 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spyder in Miami Vice". In discussing the two Daytonas, it says, "Since being tracked down and discovered, the former Miami Vice star car underwent a restoration and is now on display at the Volo Auto Museum in Volo, Illinois. The other more polished example used for most of the shooting is apparently in the hands of a private collector." (I didn't realize that mine was "more polished".) Here is the Internet address: https://www.automobilemag.com/news/miami-vice-ferrari-daytona-spyder-corvette-facts/?wc_mid=4035:18960&wc_rid=4035:639668&_wcsid=BD17B4140BEE120A87D50AAB9F2A35C5ADB356546EF7B0EC

  5. I found quite a few of the stories in seasons 1 & 2 rather flat, honestly. More formula than some of the later ones, but the focus in those seasons was also on visual and audio and not so much other stuff. By the time Vice hit its stride its own internal issues started catching up with it, at least in my view. We look for different things, so the odds of us agreeing on seasons are low. Nothing wrong with that, of course. But it also means we're going to have different lists of best episodes and the like.

  6. The way I see is 1&2 had the greatest stories and the best style. More motivated and energetic. Season 3 although a strong season was flat and too PC, 4 was inconsistent and 5 had some good episodes but it felt burnt out and no Jan Hammer.

  7. I fully respect that everyone has their own preferences/taste. Some might not like episodes I like. But to me S3 didn't have that same vibe and atmosphere, that the first two seasons established. I mean there were moments/scenes here and there. But I missed that...

  9. I watched this ep recently and was „shocked“ how many unknown locations there are: the cafe at the beginning, the small theater, the shooting range, the plant, Ross‘ house at the end. I did some searching yesterday for the plant. „Very unsatisfactory“ Ross would say. All plants that I found from the obvious ones (water plant on Virginia Key and water plant east of North Dade Justice building) to the smaller ones around Miami River where they also filmed for this episode and near the airport turned up nothing despite the unique layout with the two parallel walls as indicated by airtommy further up here. Is there any other oil refinery or other plant in Greater Miami that i missed? I did not find any single oil refinery for example?! Another annoyance is Ross home. A unique wall with round hole at the street front, an inner yard and a pink colored house with an entrance similar to the one of the Judges house in Contempt of Court on Flamingo Drive. My hunch says Key Biscayne as I still can’t believe that they just moored Woods boat and filmed the helicopter scene there (apart from the Jimbo scenes). This they could have done elsewhere too and Key Biscayne is quite a travel for 4 scenes. CGlide speculated earlier about the Cameo Theater in Miami Beach. Too big interior for my taste. What we see in this ep is a very small „underground“ theater with less than 100 seats and no big open area. The Cameo even had a big stage and night club inside. everybody is invited to join me searching. That must be the ep with the most single locations unidentified!

  10. Agreed...No Exit is amazing! I also agree that the domestic violence bothers me, too. My job is trying to help people, and those scenes are difficult for me to view. This episode is the very first thing I ever saw Bruce Willis in—before Moonlighting and the Die Hard movies. So it took me a while to be able to watch him in other things & like him...every time I’d see him I’d see the psychotic, wife-abusing weapons dealer Tony Amato, lol! I’m sure Bruce would love that.

  14. "No Exit" is a great episode, performances and all. I have a hard time watching some of it though...mainly the domestic violence scenes. That stuff tends to get to me.

  17. I fully agree...the storylines and plots in Seasons 1-2 were the best, along with the style & visual aspects...but the combination of the two is what MV was truly about! When you start doing away with those, it’s not going to go as well. There are awesome episodes in every season...but Seasons 1&2 are the best...overall 2 being superb! Season 3 was still okay, but they had different writers and the MV style was suddenly done away with...and you could tell. I agree, RedDragon86—it was somewhat “flat” compared to the previous seasons. Seasons 4-5 subsequently then seemed to flounder, desperately trying to figure out how to get back ratings & viewers, but sadly never achieving that. There are episodes I love in every season...but I think overall Season 2 was ultimate MV!

  18. So to be sure I have this right, he tells Elvis “what are you lookin at” (on every version I own), then it cuts to him waking up and saying “Gina”? edit: I just checked all my discs and it’s on all of them. How I’ve somehow never noticed is completely beyond me. What else am I missing?? Haha

  19. Strange because the heart and soul of the show belongs in 1&2.

  26. Several scenes in "The Lost Madonna" were filmed at 3645 Main Highway in Coconut Grove. The building we see in "The Lost Madonna" (especially the pool party) is the first estate the Mathesons built in Miami. Who are the Mathesons? One of the most important families of early Miami. W.J. Matheson was the original owner of Key Biscayne, where he grew coconuts. Eventually, the Mathesons donated a big chunk of Key Biscayne to Dade County, and in exchange the county built the Rickenbacker Causeway. Some more background on the Mathesons: http://wellbornphillipsjunior.blogspot.com/2013/07/why-do-they-call-it-matheson-hammock.html

  30. Remember when in “Payback” when Crockett brings the girl to his boat from the bar and the raucous music is playing loudly on his boat radio? That song is “Soul Kitchen” by X. On the same album, there was a song that sounded pretty much the same as “Soul Kitchen” called “Your Phone’s Off the Hook, But You’re Not”, which is far more fitting for the situation. Why would they not use this song instead of the other?

  31. Didn't care for either No Exit or Phil the Shill, so everyone's mileage is different. Not horrible episodes, but neither would make my top ten. And yeah, I'd lost track of Castillo in No Exit. He wasn't solidly established as a character yet, and since this is one of the episodes I don't tend to rewatch much...
