Ok guys, I'm starting to get a headache reading this. Can we just agree to disagree? "Miami Vice" HAD a finale. Whether you liked it or not is a matter of personal taste. I say we give this thread a finale! ...and as for series finales "The Fugitive" starring David Janssen ran for 4 seasons from 1963 to 1967 and after 120 episodes, Richard Kimble finally caught the one-armed man who killed his wife! At the time I remember it being so cool that a TV show had a resolution! and all you young people thought it was just a movie!4 points

More often than not, I despise the villains in “Miami Vice”, but rarely I’ll like them for some reason. Obviously number one is Jackie from “Little Miss Dangerous”. She’s much too beautiful to hate. To just be with her once and get killed... Hey, it might be worth it! LOL I also like Frank Hackman. It’s very sad he killed children and Caitlin and others, but there’s something likable about the guy. He’s such an iconic villain. He scammed his way out of death row and smiled in Crockett’s face admitting he killed Frankel. The Argentinian is another one. Kind of hate the guy, but he almost seemed human and likable when he’s sitting by that kid on the bench. Are there any bad guys/girls you like?2 points

My top three are Glenn Frey’s character Jimmy Cole (which is who I got my name from). Even though he isn’t a bad guy in the end he still is a smuggler who only looked out for himself. Second is probably everyone’s favorite Al Lombard and third I’d have to say Frank Mosca.2 points
-
Really? Wow! I got three in a row. Good thing I took an extra look.2 points
-
It was awful. They should a done an episode based on a previous storyline. Maybe bringing Dennis Farina back as Lombard instead of that world of trouble episode or about Lao Li, they could have even kept Hackman till last.2 points

The Brood! But I thought Cronenberg directed those Power Rangers flicks. JK2 points

Indeed, I agree. This and “Buddies” are fantastic episodes. They both have premises of a good thriller movie. They definitely should have made him do more scripts!2 points

Great episode. Hard not to be in total awe of Jackie even though she is a killer. The ending is very nerve-wracking but sad. So many Miami episodes end on a sad note. The first being “Heart of Darkness” with Artie committing suicide. I just realized that the Public Image Ltd song “Order of Death” has a similar vocal melody to Don Henley’s “Dirty Laundry” (used in “Rock and a Hard Place”). Sing the two lines to yourself in your head: “This is what you want, this is what you get” and “Kick em when they’re up, kick em when they’re down”... Same melody/rhythm! P.S. Ted Nugent’s “Little Miss Dangerous” is such a great song!2 points

Again...I have proved my point multiple times over. You just don’t like it. I get that, but that doesn’t make it any less true. If something isn’t quite right I might contradict it—but name calling & insults are immature and unintelligent...and are obvious signs of someone who can’t handle a debate or discussion like an adult. But...returning to the actual episode, MV’s finale was a special planned one. They had the chance to come up with something awesome & to go out on the proverbial “bang”...but they totally went with a dud, and it ultimately was a huge disappointment for fans & viewers.1 point
-
I did prove my point, you just don’t like it. Most shows in the 80s if they got canceled while it was still the 80s, we’re canceled unexpectedly for them. They were not able or given the chance to do some kind of finale. That doesn’t mean that they wouldn’t have done one had they known. Magnum and MV are both examples of ones that did know and did a planned one. I don’t bend the truth, I just state the truth. Just because you don’t like it, doesn’t make it any less true.1 point
-
I proved my point that other shows had done a finale of some sort...not necessarily a 2hr one. Magnum however was an 80s show. MV did plan and do a special finale, and it was terrible! You’re not liking my discussion because I’m not going along with your opinion, lol.1 point
-
Repeating....sorry pal but you contradicted my original statement not vice versa! You contradicted to my statement that finales were unusual in the 80s and you were not able to quote one single example for your point. And You brought in other arguments like the length to things I never mentioned and repeated arguments I never challenged (like that the MV finale was not good). Lets keep it as it is. In my opinion your discussion style is not productive.1 point

I’m repeating the same thing because you keep repeating the same thing...I’ve proved my point (that yes, does tie in with the discussion ) each time, but I understand you don’t agree with it. But that doesn’t make it any less true. Regardless, though...MV did plan and do a special finale & it was a huge disappointment!1 point
-
I understand 2hr finales were not common...but other shows were starting to do finales of some sort if they knew in advance and had time to plan one. But whatever the case, MV did plan & do a finale and it was very disappointing and a complete let-down for what they could have & should have done!1 point
-
You may disagree and you can repeat the same statement over and over again but it will not hold up with reality with mid80s series.1 point
-
I’m sorry but I disagree...and my point does fit in with what you were saying. Finales, though not as many 2hr ones, were happening...well before MASH or the 80s. Again, a lot of shows got cancelled before they were able to plan a finale...but the ones that knew in advance a lot of times were doing one. Again MV was a show that definitely deserved a 2hr finale, and it deserved & needed a much better one than sadly what was used & done!1 point

I seen the new one and its surprising good. Well worth watching. The original show was outstanding from start to finish. It had everything, tension, comedy, it was surreal and sometimes frightening. The way Lynch and Frost creating the characters was genius, and the music by Angelo Badalamenti, just breathtaking.1 point
-
Whatever your point is it does not fit to my original statement - mine was that when MV aired finales were highly unusual. That is a fact given by the low number of series with a final episode as we understand it. If they knew that they were cancelled or not does not make a difference if there was no story conclusion of the series.1 point

I agree it’s beautifully done and almost entirely shot at night which captured a lot of mood here- great writing and direction also by Leon Ichaso (Killshot\Better Living Through Chemistry/The Rising Sun of Death\Indian Wars).1 point

As I said before In the 80s hardly any show except Magnum and MV had finales. Your examples are all 70s.1 point

Yes this was cool and in the dark and dirty Miami River up by the airport. Such a great scene and theme which I also loved over the opening credits of “Prodigal Son” a year later.1 point

No. Don’t let Hollywood press fool you. For every movie dozens of stars are allegedly in „discussion“ or even „signed the contract“ but not even half of that is true. DJ had an exclusive contract that’s true and everybody in the business knew that. That he was seriously considered by any producer for the quoted movies is just a press story. I also remember that they wrote Mohammed Ali was guest starring in 1987 in MV and that he had just wrapped up filming. And in 1992 they wrote MV will be continued with the old cast and that contracts have been signed already. This is all a big balloon of journalist imagination or bad research. Take your pick.1 point

Could they have just ended the show after Season 3? Was that unheard of to end a show that was still in the top 30 of the year end ratings? (Considering all the key guys wanted to leave, I.e. Jan Hammer, Mann, Nicolella, DJ..etc.) DJ wanted to leave after S2, then he does S3....So why would he even agree to do S4? But then again he couldn't have known they were going to do stories involving an Alien, a Cryogenically frozen Rastafarian and Bull Semen.1 point

Correct! Yes, it is very entertaining! And it has at least three Vice guest stars: Guy Boyd (pictured), Melanie Griffith, and Al Israel. Plus they have Frankie Goes To Hollywood perform “Relax” which was in “Little Prince”.1 point

Interesting info on the last season and when the show got cancelled...I knew it was sometime in Season 5 that it was decided, but didn’t know exactly when. Cool trivia! I’m sorry but I have to disagree with the finale...regardless if MV wasn’t on as many years as MASH, MV had a much higher & greater impact on the television industry! Other immensely popular shows well before MV (or MASH for that matter) had been informed they were being cancelled, and even though they weren’t 2hr episodes, those shows were able to plan & have finales that were appropriate and/or had them go out on a proverbial good note. MV did not! MV had impacted TV and the decade of the 80s like no other show...it definitely & totally could have and should have planned a much better finale episode...instead they did this ridiculous crap with a stupid & pathetic plot that mostly didn’t even take place in Miami (Smugglers Blues was a one-time episode, not a series finale, so it worked for that one episode to be out of Miami—plus only part of it takes place elsewhere, the rest is in Miami), barely included the majority of the cast, and has no conclusion or resolution! From what could have been done, and what the majority of fans were wanting or expecting...it was a complete & total disappointment & let-down! (P.S.—and “confused” emojis don’t make it any less true. )1 point

That's really interesting. I guess Walter Hill was remorseful about throwing Thomas Waites into a moving train. Swan or Mercy showing up in Vice would've been sweet.1 point

Wow! 40! Happy Birthday to Jan Hammer's little brother! Whenever I hear one of Dadrian's covers it reminds me just how truly lucky we are to have him in our Vice family! A true master of his craft, he never fails to amaze me! Enjoy your day buddy!1 point

They're 5024, I have a 5022 too but the nose bridge on them is too narrow for me. The 5024 is 2mm‘s wider overall by the way, not just on the nose. got them off ebay for 269 $, there’s another NOS 5024 pair currently available from the same seller in Germany. People who ask a thousand bucks for this are nuts. I would only pay that much if DJ drives up my alley himself in a McBurnie, dressed in a white linen suit and hands them over to me personally.1 point

The tune from "Smuggler's Blues" When C&T go into the empty nightclub (halfway through the episode). That music is legit creepy. After rewatching that episode last month, I was honestly a bit scared to go to sleep because the music kept lingering in my head for a few nights afterwards. Scary music has always given me problems with falling asleep, even old videogames I used to play as a kid had some scary music that made falling asleep difficult lol. Why is it my favorite? Because of the impression it left on me of course. I still love that, even as an adult, the right music can still make my imagination run away with me. Something I hate that we lose as we get older.1 point
