  1. As to the source, I asked Derek, the MV 40 anniversary organizer, and he had the production sheet. Here it is, and there is the address. It is quite amazing how much time we’ve spent while it’s just sort of out there… Fun hunt though anyway!

  2. A still shot on the set of "Buddies", where we can see the upper end of the studio set wall, which is not visible on TV of course.

  4. I had Police Quest 3 way way back. I remember seeing in a catalog how the music was composed by “Miami Vice’s Jan Hammer.” This game was a big step up in technology from the previous games and having him as a composer seemed to indicate this was going to be a different experience. I listened to the intro on YouTube & it feels like Hammer’s work but it’s obviously limited by the early 90’s tech.

  6. I have original, uncut broadcast episodes…and although not HD, the colors and sound quality are amazing! They have the “In Stereo” logo (which I loved, too), all the original show logo colors (as with syndication & home video releases—which used syndicated versions, a different colored logo was created for Seasons 3-5: a strange purple & green one, that was never part of the original run), and my episodes include the original commercial-bumpers (although the commercials themselves were cut out)…if you remember or know what those are! It’s pure, un-altered, original, unedited MV!

  7. Also interesting: the house was sold in August 1991 by Richard Lancaster, the owner at the time of filming to the next owner. The 2012 extension was nearly as big as the original house, adding more than 2000 square feet to the original 3000+sq.feet. The sketch in the Miami Dade property database is also below.

  8. I found pretty good 3D aerials on the Miami Dade property records BING site which has annual aerials since 2007 (date in the upper left corner of the pics below): It shows that the seating area of Crockett and Caroline looked pretty much like in the episode until 2008 - first few pics. The thick L-shaped hedge behind Crockett (whose purpose I never really understood) was the hedge around the pool whose pool house they magically blacked out by careful camera work. Somewhere in 2012 they remodelled the house strongly and build new buildings where C&C sat down so that the whole terrace was destroyed. See views from south and west below. The view from the east (entrance side) is blocked by trees over all the years. The last pic is how the property looks today from above, with the house in the same building state as 2012 (big remodelling). Wow, what a find, a 20+year search is over and the house was close to Coral Gables locations in this episode and I specifically searched this area last year when I cruised around there with @Paul Veresin his car on Miller Drove and SW60 just a few blocks away

  9. This is why they had to prevail—I’m aware that virtually nobody agrees with me on this one. And I realize those ideas were among the main ingredients to Mann’s original vision. Don’t get me wrong—I love the season 1-2 looks for sure! I just like the season 3 looks better. I think it’s largely because they were airing season 3 when I started watching on TV in 1986.

  10. Wow you earned your place in location sleuth hall of fame for this find. I searched every single house in South Miami but due to all the reasons you mentioned I failed to see it! I hope that Derek also has the sheets from Borrasca and Miami Squeeze to find the other two unknown 5th season locations!

  11. Though the ubiquitous whites and pastels had to prevail, I always thought DJ looked way better in darker costumes.

  12. Thank you Dadrian, very kind! I am not active on many social media sites because I am a long-time privacy activist (since 1998), so I have no presence on Facebook or Google, etc. It's difficult...people have no idea what sacrifices people make for them in the name of civil rights (in the case of the U.S., the 4th Amendment)! I do have a website https://danling.com/ where I have have a couple pages I wrote regarding Jan's history, but there's prolly nothing there that would be new to you. If you do ever check it out, please feel free to offer input as I want those pages to be accurate and informative. I will be working on a new page at some point which will go into Jan's 1970-80's analog synthesis, playing technologies and techniques though, which you may find interesting. I commonly use his analog "sync sweep guitar" type sound (the one on the Vice Theme), and since I used to own an Oberheim FVS-1, I am fascinated by his voice-triggering keyboard and pitch wheel techniques (many pioneered by Oberheim) which enabled him to do things nobody else did (ever, as far as I can tell). I once wrote a letter to Elliot Sears (many years ago) suggesting they consider archiving Jan's gear so as to facilitate a Hammer museum some day, or at least for someone to document it and his techniques with interviews. He sent a kind reply but noted that Jan is so humble that he doesn't take himself seriously as far as music history, and that he sells or gives away his stuff. This is sad, because Jan is undoubtedly the most important synthesizer player ever, in many ways.

  13. Wish them luck saving it. Would be a real loss. At least it is still going strong in French Basque Country, although that is not much compensation.

  14. That Jai Alai article is from 2009. Here's a more recent one: https://apnews.com/article/sports-lifestyle-miami-spain-casinos-1e9ad45ad3e0fbe24a07a48714ebe0af Seeing a Jai Alai match is another thing I have on my list but just never get around to.

  15. WOW that’s amazing. I’ve seen that rig on a lot of live footage (Beck, Di Meola, etc.), but can’t imagine what it looked/sounded like in person. Thanks for sharing, and I gotta say: for me, this is one of the best First Posts ever! Welcome to the sight, fellow JH Enthusiast! If you have any inside info about Jan’s MV era gear/sounds (besides all the obvious resources), I’d love to know. We can PM to spare all the locals of the nerdery if you like.

  16. I saw Hammer (the group) at JB Scotts in Albany, NY in (I think) 1979. They played a lot of stuff from Black Sheep and Hammer. Colin Hodgkinson, Gregg Carter, Glenn Burtnick was lead vocalist and played a bit of keys. I was standing just below Jan where I could have reached out and grabbed his pedal foot. He had his 6-voice custom black Oberheim SEM system with the Probe. That's all he played. I'm 65 and a synthesizer player / keyboardist / composer and it was the best concert I've ever seen or heard, period. Jan played the living *&%$ out of that thing. It was a religious experience for all who witnessed it. I was literally in tears.

  17. I have a bunch episodes that I taped on beta way back. Last time I looked at them they looked pretty good. Of course I didn’t have an HD tv then. I always remember the “In Stereo” logo. The one I liked popped up when the main drums come in & then split in the middle when the Miami Vice logo lit up. It was all on beat which was awesome to 15 year old me.

  18. The boat thing is not certain to put it mildly. I just spoke to Derek over phone, and it appears ViceEvent.com won't be able to pretty much do anything significant because all the main events are tied to Derek and his associates. His guidance is to email ViceEvent.com (see contacts page) and ask for a refund, which I just did. He said others who did it received a confirmation that they would be reimbursed shortly. Derek will be opening his own sales over the next few days. I anticipate some Miami level heat here, so let's all please stay civil and avoid getting this whole Misc thread locked

  19. The user you tried to mention was banned. It seems that our @VICE365 and his pal Stuart are now having a separate event for the cars and boats thing, and RB, Derek, and company are doing the stars, museum, and dinner thing. “I’m not sure how this is gonna work out style and persona-wise” I haven’t heard from Derek or @VICE365 since that IG post, but I sincerely hope all is well with everyone. So will we have to buy tickets for both events now?

  20. I am not sure where to best post this now because the original thread was closed due to all the heat there, but it's important for folks here to know that as per this Instagram post some organizer relationship broke up and ViceEvent.com appears to not be the official site of the event anymore (indeed the attending stars page was removed). I hope @MiamiViceCity86 (name not taggable for some reason), will come in somewhere and give us an update. @timm525 / @Ferrariman maybe it's good to unlock the original thread because that's the most natural place to post an update on, unless there is a new designated thread I'm not aware of.

  22. I'm so glad people appreciate his work. My favorite role he played was the corrupt Sgt. Urizzi in the aforementioned Thief. One of the greatest scenes is when he pulls over Frank (James Caan) and confronts him about their "relationship". I absolutely love the dialogue: URIZZI: You know, a very important thing for you to remember is gonna be my name. Sergeant Urizzi. FRANK: Urizzi? Why's that? URIZZI: Because I'm gonna do good things for you. FRANK: What for? Good conduct medal? URIZZI: Ah, I'm here to make life easy for you. Smooth out the bumps and the humps. You know, your relationship with us. FRANK: I didn't know I had one. URIZZI: Look, we're your new partners. We're in for ten points. FRANK: Ten points of what? URIZZI: You know. The guy. Leo. The action. (after a beat) I don't get this. What's with you? Listen, our end goes with the territory. Don't you know you gotta come up? FRANK: I am a car salesman. You guys want a deal on a Buick?
