  2. I revisited that one while driving home yesterday. It seems the easiest thing to do would be to sample and loop the fast notes from an isolated rip from one of @Crockettt’s or @buford_t’s videos (if I couldn’t easily reproduce it). The rest is very simple—just Memorymoog bass and some drum samples I’ve had for years.

  4. You can still get the VHS to DVD recorders…and if you have original MV airings on VHS, then in my opinion it’s definitely worth doing that—especially if the VHS copies are in good or excellent condition! However, the original airings that I have were not originally mine. Another MV fan I was in contact with back around 2011-2012, had taped every episode as it aired. They had those transferred to DVDs, and I was somehow able to get them to make me a set as well. Although not digitally remastered or in HD, the condition of the episodes is superb, and it’s pure, uncut/unedited, unaltered, unmessed with MV! But, I haven’t had contact with that fan since 2012/13, and I don’t know how to contact them anymore. So, if something would ever happen to one of the discs…I’d be in trouble, as I would not have any way to replace it. But, I fully agree with you…the Elephant Films Blu-ray set is amazing! Definitely the best “official” set available! I have it as well, and that’s usually how I watch the show. I only get out my “original airing” set every few years…as I’m paranoid something might happen to it. However, if you have high quality DVDs, take good care of them, store them properly…they supposedly can last anywhere from 50-200 years! I won’t be here in 50 years (I’ll already be with Jesus—and then someone else can enjoy my “vintage” DVD set ), let alone 200, lol!!

  5. You can still find those old VHS to DVD recorders. Not sure the quality would be worth the cost/effort. I'm more than satisfied with the blu rays (Elephant ver). I don't dismiss the contention that the colors are different. I don't know. Personally I don't notice it. You can manually change your television options, to remedy most of that, if you want. The one thing I do notice is the bloom in many s4 daytime shots. It washes away a lot of detail. I need to compare it one day to the dvd version.

  7. I wish there was a way for everyone to have access to original airings…but, I don’t really know of one? Even if I somehow (I wouldn’t know how, as I am, not a techie, lol) posted them online somewhere, there’s probably copyright legalities that would get me in trouble. I wish Universal had gotten out the original broadcasts & used those versions for home video (and eventually streaming crap). But, sadly they chose to use syndicated versions—and these are what all the countries & companies have been given access to, including the German set/s…despite their inaccurate/false claim of “uncut” episodes. All home video sets & streaming episodes are the same syndicated versions. But, despite that the Blu-ray sets are amazing in HD!

  9. I think Burnett was always planned, assuming there was enough time and DJ to do it. The first two seasons contain the prophetic conversation with Gina in the pilot, Crockett himself making a lot of gripes and remarks about the identity issues the job gives him ("what are you like, really? Flipside of Burnett?" "That... gets a little cloudy sometimes."), and the appearance of Burnett in his "true form" at the end of "Sons & Lovers". Once DJ decided to return during the second season, they had enough time to run the Hackman/Caitlin/Burnett arc over three years. I have also wondered (and joked with a friend) "is he acting...?" and the answer is partly "no". https://archive.ph/iHjBR (Fixed link) Apart from saying Crockett's gold watches were pretentious and he wouldn't wear one, I think he largely got to be himself with a tweaked background and accent, and the people in charge of MV were fortunate in having such a strikingly charismatic individual as Sonny. When he was more obviously acting (Burnett), it was also fascinating to watch, although I think Burnett was drawn from a lot of his experiences and personality as well, as he's gone on to play some other (even worse) bad boys pretty notably.

  10. Yes I think his prior life and personality somehow prepared him for the role. Makes you wonder how much of it was acting and how much was DJ just being himself or what he really thought about life. He has been praised enough but one of the best things you can say about him is that Vice would not be such an entertainment and cultural phenomenon without him.
