  1. To promote this summer's release of Beverly Hills Cop IV, they've been airing the first three movies on TV a lot. I was watching Beverly Hills Cop II and I noticed the bad guy's henchman is Paul Guilfoyle (Milton Glanz in Death and the Lady). Then I noticed the daughter of the murder victim is Deborah Adair (the hooker in Streetwise). It turns out AndrewRemington already documented in another thread a bunch of MV actors in that movie. Deborah/Alice Adair from “Streetwise” Brian O’Connor from “Baby Blues” Dean Stockwell from “Bushido” Tom Bower from “Bushido” Paul Guilfoyle from “Death and the Lady” Chris Rock from “Missing Hours” Frank Pesce from “Home Invaders” Robert Pastorelli from “Down from the Count Part II” There's a reason: the movie had the same casting director as MV - Bonnie Timmerman. I also noticed a shootout scene that looked familiar: We see a camera shot of this same location setting up a scene in Yankee Dollar:

  3. Hey guys, here’s a Crockett-inspired look I am proud of. It’s a vintage linen Valentino blazer from the 80s, matched with a pink t-shirt, wide linen pants, and canvas Toms.

  4. I agree, it seemed like either DJ or EJO were the ones who had the best episodes centered around them…the rest of the cast just had little pieces of backstory here and there, or the episode involving them wasn’t the greatest. But, I do really like this episode…I liked Saundra playing both roles, and I thought this was one that actually truly focused on & even “cared for” her character of Gina. The plot, and finally her character, had depth. And it didn’t have C&T rushing in & taking over, and “solving” everything for her. Gina handled most of this herself.

  6. I've never cared for it, either. But they never seemed to put quite as much effort into episodes that weren't showcasing DJ or EJO. At least to me. PMT always suffered in that regard, and they never gave Olivia Brown much respect, either (especially after Season 2 or so). And don't get me started on how they wasted Switek...

  7. Yeah that might have been the case. Gina playing her mother just doesn't sit right with me.

  8. Completely agree. Although the decision could have been made because they couldn't get who they might have originally wanted for the role (due to cost or availability), had they been after someone else. The realities of TV production and all that.

  9. I just think Gina playing her mother was a typical, corny 80's thing, something right out of Donald P. Bellisario's book. It's a shame we never actually get to see her mother. And I don't care whether or not Sonny becoming this evil guy was realistic at the end of 4 the show was downhill at that point anyway. These are different questions anyway.

  11. Absolutely there was a possibility that they could have used a different actress to play Gina’s mother, and for some it may have seemed “obvious” that Saundra Santiago played both roles. But, there’s a definite possibility & probability (although not 100% absolute ) that Gina would greatly resemble her mother…and that “emotional connection or investment” was why they had Saundra play both parts. By no means does everyone have to like that …but understanding the reasoning behind it may help a little at least, of why it was handled that way. I totally get-it, and love how the episode was done. It may be the season finale, but it’s one of my favorites of the season & probably my favorite Gina-centered one.

  12. But are they the same people who were also okay with Sonny being his evil amnesiac alter ego and then allowed back into OCB (for that matter, Gina/Elena can be viewed as the distaff and time-shifted counterpart of Crockett/Burnett), Castillo being a ninja, or anything extra-melodramatic that happened to Tubbs? Or are they the same people who just want to use it as an excuse to dismiss Gina and not pay attention to a huge part of her story?

  13. I actually don’t think it would have been better. If some other actress had played Gina’s mom, it would not have had the emotional impact we needed to connect with Gina & her character. And they would have had to “explain” a lot more to let viewers know it was supposed to be Gina’s mother. In my opinion, the way it was done & handled was perfect!

  14. Honestly, it didn't bother me. Elena is shown with a different hair color and style; as well as a style of dress and makeup that was more 1960-appropriate. Would it have been better if another actress had played Gina's mom? Maybe. But for me, it worked.

  16. I studied a particular jacket Crockett wears on several episodes and had it tailor-made, along with a new pair of large straight white pants

  17. The glasses point is very good. I still like this episode, its just the little detail that irritate me. Sandra puts in maybe her best performance after "Bought and Paid For" imo. I like the actor who played Eddie Kaye, he should have been in another episode and Walter Gotell was very good also.

  18. Cross phoned Caroon so that he wouldn't get caught and would shoot down the Concorde. He did this with the hope that such a successful terrorist attack by the IRA would free him to "put a bullet in Caroon's head wherever I see him." It's not a mystery--he states it clearly earlier in the episode when he says to Castillo: "You know what's going to happen? One day Caroon or one of his cronies is going to go too far and I'll get that power." (slight paraphrase). So, he gets drunk while listening to a South African crackdown against apartheid protestors, says "at least someone is thinking" then takes it upon himself to help Caroon go too far.

  19. I agree...I don’t think Cross was corrupt per-say, but he became so obsessed with stopping (probably killing) Carroon, that he made moves without authorization & were illegal and/or out of compliance with his government and the U.S. His moves about got people killed and seriously compromised the mission/case.

  20. Peace was achieved in the North through negotiation between the North and British governments. The North has been largely peaceful for over 20 years now. The first ceasefire was on the 25th anniversary of the conflict when the then Irish Prime Minister acted as mediator on behalf of the Catholics in the North and negotiated with then British prime minister and this brought about the first ceasefire and this was a precursor the peace deal Blair got with negotiating with Sinn Fein. This brought about long lasting peace in the North which is a good thing. I not a big fan of Gerry Adams but he and Sinn Fein did contribute in a large way to the negotiations that brought long lasting peace. Give credit where it's due and I think you have to give a lot of credit for that. The ends justified the means. The IRA voluntarily agreed to an end to the conflict. The UVF were just as bad as the IRA. The UVF bombed Dublin and Monaghan in 1974 which killed 33 civilians and injured nearly 300. That was the deadliest bombing of the Troubles and it happened in Southern Ireland killing southern Irish civilians.

  21. Hi there Hope i've not doubled up on this topic - i couldn't find it anywhere else on the site, but please link if there is another thread I'm new to all this, and have only completed season 1, but have noticed DJ has a couple of physical features i am sure enhance the clothes he wears. 1/ He has very well defined trapezius muscles (traps). They are high which helps lift the linen jackets up, giving a solid triangular shape. My priority would be to train the traps. Youtube Tom Hardy work out videos because Tom Hardy has naturally huge traps. Essentially one is doing loads of shrugs, shoulder presses and military press exercises. When DJ wears sleeveless T-shirts, you see great striation of the shoulders. Not excessive, but toned and conditioned. Do plenty of front and side dumb bell raises, and planks. 2/ Biceps are not bulging! I think this is great as it gives DJ a sleek look, but he still has a nice shape. He's not trying to get massive definition on the triceps ether. This is important because good shoulder makes the t-shirts fit nicely, but he does not look ungainly with massive guns. Furthermore the t-shirts are close, but not too tight, which would reduce coolness aesthetic. The sleeveless top look is is casual, the arms are not in your face... very important because Sonny isn't the type to spend all day in the gym. I think a more laid back aesthetic is a perfect antidote to todays instagram fitness look. You don't want veins popping out, too uncouth. 3/ Waist: excellent. ok no six pack or v-cuts but a nice flat stomach that allows the t-shirt to tuck in with the high waisted trouser; great fit with the t-shirt. I reckon this is achieved with a good mix of all round exercise, but most importantly... diet! I suspect DJ's chain smoking helped him cope with not eating much food. 4/ Back. Lats are well defined with triangular shape. Don't need to be excessive with the back, but make sure the pull ups and pull downs are in there. Some moderate dead lifting would help a lot too. If you prefer a bit of cardio hit the rowing machine, that will shred the fat off your back. 4/ Legs... we don't get to see much of this but the Vice lads can run fast, so I would not skip leg days. Furthermore investing in legs will fill the trouser better. We all want the baggy 80's style, but we still want to believe a leg is inside the trouser! Conclusion: I think the VICE body shape is really appealing, achievable and healthy. Anyone can get to this point, especially with the improvement in gyms, personal training, and diet we have today. The most important thing to remember is to train your body... not to look amazing with no clothes on, but to look stunning when you wear vice fashion! If you have the right body shape, you can then get your tailor to adjust your garments accordingly, and you will have the Vice style that fits perfectly with who you are.

  22. Why do we dress like Sonny and try to recreate the show in our heads? I wonder what Don Johnson would think of us all. Self bashing aside, for me it's to show off the decade I wasn't even born in, some hell of love. It's a cool style that should be done by everyone with the stones to pull it off. It's different and out there, there should be more folks like us around. Even not living in Miami, it's an epic shared around the world! Keep calm, and Vice on!
