This was taken from the novelisation of the Pilot Episode entitled Miami Vice: Florida Burn’ written by Stephen Grave.. I always joked that Miami Vice and Scarface were in the same universe, or if it ever gets rebooted, make it a same universe thing and call it the CCU (Cocaine Cinematic Universe) but it looks like it was all well and official even back then.. nice to have it confirmed.

Some of you may know how much I love season 3 costumes. I was not “searching” for it, but I came across this recently and bought it for $39 because it had “Universal Studios” property tags on it. I knew I recognized it, but couldn’t quite place it. Well I found it last night while watching Cuba Libre!! I’m gonna go all Coop here with the details for the sake of finding more stuff like this in the future, but given the Miami store on the tags where other screen-worn items were purchased, the Universal Studios tag, and these two photos below, I’m 99% sure it’s at least “authentic”!!! edit: forgive the horrible offering of the episode shot—it’s my iPhone taking a picture of the Blu Ray on my TV. Maybe some of you screen cap folk can help me verify.

Happened to be way west in the county today, bordering the Everglades. Stumbled upon a nice example of how the developers fill those remaining lots. You'd think you're in Coral Gables. Mediterranian-inspired architecture, beautiful landscaping, and decent density with 3-story apartment buildings. Good amenities with a pool overlooking a lake. And note the domino table on the left in my photo above! Couple more images from the internet. In my opinion this is the most sustainable approach to develop what's gonna be developed anyway - great balance of density and aesthetics for Miami-Dade.

Today we wish a very Happy Birthday to one of the actors of our favorite show, Miami Vice, .................. John Diehl! He played Larry Zito. We enjoyed him in all the episodes with his partner, Switek! Have a great Birthday, John!

Prop car was reused in my garage. 1982-1983 Dodge 400 (or possibly 1984-1985 Dodge 600). Mine is a 1982. It’s hard to tell, but this one on MV could be a coupe or sedan. I believe Gina drove a 400 sedan in an episode.

Currently going through the original (and the “real”) Magnum p.i., with Tom Selleck. I haven’t watched it in probably 10-12 years, and I recently acquired the Fabulous Films Blu-ray set…which is almost all, if not all, unedited original broadcast versions! Anyway, I’m in the 12th episode of Season 1, “Thicker Than Blood”, and who do I notice guest starring (have never noticed this before)…but ‘Shadow’ himself—Vincent Caristi (from the MV episode “Shadow In the Dark”)! He looks a little more ‘human’ in this…but, I think he’s supposed to be a junkie. So, maybe that’s what fried him out & he then headed to Miami. Just kidding! (Side-note: This episode of “Magnum” was the first one to feature the famous starting theme song. The 11 episodes before it originally had a different starting theme.) A couple pics of Caristi…one as ‘Shadow’, and one from the episode of “Magnum”. Sadly he died fairly young in 1990, but I don’t believe a cause of death was ever stated: Vincent Caristi as ‘Shadow’, in MV’s Season 3 episode “Shadow In the Dark” (1986). Vincent Caristi as ‘Joey’, in Magnum p.i.’s Season 1 episode “Thicker Than Blood” (1981).

I was digging through papers and came across a Jan Hammer interview I had printed out years ago. It hasn't been posted on our forum and I could not find any trace of it on the Internet. I searched for the interviewer and was fortunate to find him on a guitar forum. That´s a good possibility and very close vibe wise. The 1986 aerial is inconclusive whether Palapa was there at that time already. But there is a potential squared pointed roof (in red) on the 86 aerial that is not there today. The layout of buildings and trees from the episode do not match up though. Needs further investigation, but definitely worth a closer look.

Interesting catch! Back to the Future and Miami Vice are both Universal too. That episode would have been filmed just a few months after Back to the Future came out.

Could be, but they all look virtually the same. On that note, in Tale of the Goat when Bobby Profile is filming one of his ads, you can hear his voice (off screen) say something like “I don’t know if it will take you back to the future…”, which suggests he’s trying to sell a Delorean, but I don’t remember ever seeing one on his lot. Anyone else ever catch that?

If I was a size 40, not only would I buy that right now, but I'd drive there to pick it up (Sebring is maybe 3 hours away from me). Anyway, I got a new jacket but it looks/fits kinda weird. It says it's 100% linen but the way it both looks and feels reminds me more of a robe, lol. Wasn't expensive and it does fit me well, plus it's super light, but it's very casual looking (Which I guess is good if I wanna rock it with a t-shirt and slacks). Any idea how to get this thing looking sharp? Somehow I think ironing/pressing it like a traditional suit is not an option, lol. Also, I have another jacket coming in, hopefully tomorrow, that's also 100% linen, but it looks nothing like this one regarding the material. I'll report on that later.

Yes Dennis Farina was sublime as Lombard . He did two episodes in Season 1 and one at the end of Season 5. Farina was a good and charismatic actor as well as busy — so I think we were lucky to get him for three episodes. All the episodes he was in he was the main star having as many scenes as Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas.

Dark content but an excellent episode. Dennis Farina stole the show as Lombard. 10 out of 10.

LAST UNKNOWN LOCATION: Rockhouse Club (and Dive bar). As we have the daily call sheet (without location addresses though for whatever reason) we know that both scenes were filmed the same day. They started filming at 5pm on Fri 27 July 84 with the day scenes at the dive bar and then (sunset in Miami in July around 8pm) they continued with the night scenes at the Raeggae club. There is no "company move" on the sheet, which could mean (maybe not and it was only forgotten) that both locations are the same or next to each other. When Crockett&Tubbs leave the rockhouse club, we can briefly see the interior of a building that resembles a bit the dive bar interior. Also the scene with Noogie dancing shows the style of building behind him with a similar vibe than the dive bar (brown wooden door, ..). When I started to reopen this unsolved case last week, it flashed on me that the area behind Crockett and Tubbs sitting with the wooden white half open fence around is rather a big rectangular shaped one than several small "booths". AND: the whole big rectangular roofed area seems to have ONE pointed roof with 6 or 8 triangle shaped segments. THAT should be quite unique and stand out on historic aerials from any building around. Further thinking that the car drive C&T (sc.80F....when they listen to the tape) was filmed the same night AFTER the rockhouse club as seen on the location call sheet, I thought I could find it near the drive location (Biscayne Blvd southbound around 33-29 Street), but nothing. I extended my search for other parts of Miami but no luck either. I made a handmade sketch of the buildings and roofs visible, It looks like a whole ensemble of buildings with extended roofs, repeatingly used white fences and a huge tree next to it. Vibe-wise this says it is NOT on the beach and not in downtown, rather in a less inhabited area or near a park. I used the 1986 aerial. Maybe the location was razed between 1984 and 1986? The 1984 aerial is blurry like hell. Maybe we will find it faster with more eyes trying .... @Paul Veres?

They filmed this car drive where Crockett and Tubbs listen to the tape at the same stretch like in the pilot, the NCR sign is clearly seen in the background and NCR was at 2915 Biscayne Bvd (building still stands but NCR has moved out). Watching the drive they started around 3300 block of Biscayne driving southbound (there were some blocks with hardly any buildings) and crossed the NCR sign at one point. The arches we seen briefly AFTER the U-turn at 1751 Biscayne (Les Violins Club) were NOT the same as in the pilot. I am searching for the unsolved Rockhouse Club (Meeting with Desmond) site and they could have filmed it near the drive location, as this was filmed the same evening after the dive bar and the rockhouse club scenes.

Just watched this movie which was great except for maybe just one too many twists at the end. Was skimming through locations and searched on our forum and it seems there is no designated thread. Without trying to do a full guide yet, here is a couple of things to start. A location I loved was the Van Ryan mansion, it's just a really grand home: In a scene where upset Kelly is walking from the dock back into the home with her mother, you can catch a glimpse of tall port cranes, which makes the bridge and road behind the ladies the MacArthur causeway, and along with the curving of the house lot's edge and relative distance puts it into the only two options possible: southeast ends of either Palm or Star islands. There is only one home there matching the overall layout and architecture, but earlier we can also catch the house number on the gate - 40: Which seals the deal for 40 E Star Island Dr. A beautiful home built in 1925 and overlooking Miami Beach, it is currently owned by a Turkey-born tycoon. Here is a location which is a mystery. @airtommy brought up that scene by the end of the movie in a different thread. Could it be Virginia Key or Crandon beach? One of these was certainly used in the movie (Suzie murder and investigation), easily identifiable by this structure: Though there was trellis added into the columns since then, which was a good beautification for this pavilion, it looked abandoned in the movie. Both Virginia and Crandon have these: So you'd think it would make perfect sense to shoot the other beach scenes there, but indeed the hotel (or "hotel") in the movie is not a structure existing on these beaches today, and I couldn't find anything different on late 90s aerials either. I am also suspicious because while Crandon generally matches the beach look, the beach doesn't have these short palm trees (I'm sure @Tom knows what they're called) we see in the scene planted everywhere: Unless they are exactly in fact the palms currently existing on Crandon beach, and that's how they grew over the last 25 years. Like these: Now, if it was a real hotel, maybe we could get a hint from a possibly real hotel towels, but I can't get a resolution good enough to read what's on them: @miamijimf @Matt5 Looking forward to any more thoughts.

After the Santa Monica location seen in “ Free Verse “ and “ Asian Cut “ — I went to the Los Angeles neighborhood area of Burbank on Friday and to 2901 West Alameda Avenue. Did the best I could inside the small studio complex. We see this set up shot in Season 3s “ Stone’ s War “. This wasn’t product placement at all for all the reasons you mention, plus another. Product placement was very uncommon at the time when the three networks dominated and mass audience appeal was king. Showing a particular product reduced advertising revenue opportunities. Why would Coke pay for an ad slot on a show that featured Pepsi placement. I think this wasn’t relevant in this particular instance because advertising of liquor on TV was not legal, so there could be no competitors. They simply used an existing bottle rather than going to the trouble of creating a false label. It was also not particularly featured in the scene as you explained. Beer, on the other hand, was a different story and labels were created. I recall seeing on the Carol Burnett Show many years ago, skits where the characters held cans with the label reading Beer! This added to the humor. Another example is Magnum pi, from the same era. It frequently referenced a fictitious beer called Old Düsseldorf and another called Coops that looked strikingly like a Coors labels in its design.

In the 80s they couldn’t show as much with sex scenes on TV. But, it was definitely implied that Crockett and Gina had a sexual relationship. I don’t think their races had anything to do with that (whether the characters or the actors in real life). Perhaps if they had tried to get Crockett and Trudy together it would have had a different impact…but, MV crossed a lot of barriers & pushed the proverbial envelope with lots of things at the time. One was they included a lot of races, ethnic backgrounds, and cultures in different episodes. And no, it wasn’t specifically Crockett…but the show did have or portray some interracial relationships. Castillo had May Ying (who was Asian), Noogie had a white wife, and Tubbs’ former partner Clarence Batisse (from the episode “Better Living Through Chemistry”) had a white girlfriend and/or wife, just to name a few off the top of my head. I think that for the time, MV was awesome with again…trying to include many different ethnic backgrounds, cultures, races, etc…

it's been a while i didn't watch The running man. and for me it's simply one of the best 80s films, and one of the best featuring Schwarzenegger, if not his best. from acting, to plot, to actors, everything is solid into that movie. i also discovered it was inspired from a Stephen King book, and was directed by P.M. Glaser

If I might respond to your final comment about the fit of the shoulders. I believe the difference is that the shoulders on your jacket are more heavily constructed, which is the norm actually, but not present here with DJ’s jacket. Notice how it rounds over his shoulders whereas yours comes to more of a point. This is because of the padded lining added in the shoulder by your tailor. DJ’s likely had little to none, so it drapes more like a windbreaker jacket than a constructed one. If it were possible to put both coats on hangers next to each other, the difference would be even more obvious.

Just got these brand new for only $17. Similar to another pair I have but the back half is dark blue/navy. Something a little different but still retains the essence of Vice, IMO. I'm going to an 80's themed costume party in a few weeks, so it'll be fun to test these out with the white suit (as per usual, lol).

The one with Kurt Russel looks like "Big Trouble in Little China"
