  3. Happened to be way west in the county today, bordering the Everglades. Stumbled upon a nice example of how the developers fill those remaining lots. You'd think you're in Coral Gables. Mediterranian-inspired architecture, beautiful landscaping, and decent density with 3-story apartment buildings. Good amenities with a pool overlooking a lake. And note the domino table on the left in my photo above! Couple more images from the internet. In my opinion this is the most sustainable approach to develop what's gonna be developed anyway - great balance of density and aesthetics for Miami-Dade.

  4. This was taken from the novelisation of the Pilot Episode entitled Miami Vice: Florida Burn’ written by Stephen Grave.. I always joked that Miami Vice and Scarface were in the same universe, or if it ever gets rebooted, make it a same universe thing and call it the CCU (Cocaine Cinematic Universe) but it looks like it was all well and official even back then.. nice to have it confirmed.

  9. Yes Dennis Farina was sublime as Lombard . He did two episodes in Season 1 and one at the end of Season 5. Farina was a good and charismatic actor as well as busy — so I think we were lucky to get him for three episodes. All the episodes he was in he was the main star having as many scenes as Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas.

  10. Dark content but an excellent episode. Dennis Farina stole the show as Lombard. 10 out of 10.

  11. Haven't really looked around for jackets lately, as I've decided my best bet is to just get the ones I want custom made but I was just looking and found this: https://www.menswearhouse.com/p/paisley-amp-gray-slim-fit-linen-blend-variegated-stripe-sport-coat-tmw-6rpu?CAWELAID=120259610001890283#color=white%26 Kinda reminds me of the one Don wore in "Heart of Darkness": Though once again, these days it's always vertical stripes instead of horizontal. A little outta my price range (at least, for something that isn't exactly the pattern I want), but I'm throwing this out there for any fellow Vicers here that may be interested.

  15. Yeah I really liked that part when Seagal was disappered from the movie. Unexpected and gave excitement as well for me too. One of the kinda big name starring actor is being killed that early showed that producers are brave so other unexpected things can happen later also. Yeah quite exciting movie to watch through, just not my genre. But actors are good in it, I think direction and script was also spot on. Seagal movies : yeah they are most of the times are on level with Chuck Norris straight to Home TV feature films but the really early ones are watchable especially if someone likes 80s aesthetics and some funnier action scenes. At least the aesthetics are there - Nico is not that bad with Sharon Stone I believe that came out in 1988. - Hard to Kill - 1990 - Kelly LeBrock is the main reason I had to watch it -Mark of Death - there is a good chase in it. But a strong 10/5 maybe in its on genre 10/6 I am not really into these Actually the Score is fantastic and love this scene where Seagal wore the RB Shooter shades ! @Paul Veres I am going to watch The Thing(1982) and Big Trouble in Little China(1986)

  16. To compliment the above post - I was in Coconut Grove yesterday and I took the below at 2800 Emathla Street, Coconut Grove featured in “ Duty and Honor “ aka The Savage. The 10 out of 10 episode from early 1987 directed by John Nicollela. John Nicollela was the producer of Miami Vice in Seasons 1 and 2 who directed two Season 1 episodes and 6 Season 2 episodes. Duty and Honor was his last directed episode. John Nicollela was also a showrunner and Executive Producer alongside Don Johnson in 1996 for the fine first Season of “ Nash Bridges “.

  17. LAST UNKNOWN LOCATION: Rockhouse Club (and Dive bar). As we have the daily call sheet (without location addresses though for whatever reason) we know that both scenes were filmed the same day. They started filming at 5pm on Fri 27 July 84 with the day scenes at the dive bar and then (sunset in Miami in July around 8pm) they continued with the night scenes at the Raeggae club. There is no "company move" on the sheet, which could mean (maybe not and it was only forgotten) that both locations are the same or next to each other. When Crockett&Tubbs leave the rockhouse club, we can briefly see the interior of a building that resembles a bit the dive bar interior. Also the scene with Noogie dancing shows the style of building behind him with a similar vibe than the dive bar (brown wooden door, ..). When I started to reopen this unsolved case last week, it flashed on me that the area behind Crockett and Tubbs sitting with the wooden white half open fence around is rather a big rectangular shaped one than several small "booths". AND: the whole big rectangular roofed area seems to have ONE pointed roof with 6 or 8 triangle shaped segments. THAT should be quite unique and stand out on historic aerials from any building around. Further thinking that the car drive C&T (sc.80F....when they listen to the tape) was filmed the same night AFTER the rockhouse club as seen on the location call sheet, I thought I could find it near the drive location (Biscayne Blvd southbound around 33-29 Street), but nothing. I extended my search for other parts of Miami but no luck either. I made a handmade sketch of the buildings and roofs visible, It looks like a whole ensemble of buildings with extended roofs, repeatingly used white fences and a huge tree next to it. Vibe-wise this says it is NOT on the beach and not in downtown, rather in a less inhabited area or near a park. I used the 1986 aerial. Maybe the location was razed between 1984 and 1986? The 1984 aerial is blurry like hell. Maybe we will find it faster with more eyes trying .... @Paul Veres?

  18. The best thing about Executive decision is that Steven Seagal was killed off in the first third of the movie Honestly, it´s exciting until the end with many unexpected turns, with some MV guest stars (Oliver Platt, John Leguizamo). John mentioned in a recent interview that Seagal was the worst person he ever worked with, including physical threats at the set.

  20. Watched Breakdown(1997). Though I found the ending behavior highly unlikely, and not referring to the action part at the end (I don't want to go into spoilers) I found that the decisions the main/protagonist/ characters making are unlikely given what they had to go through earlier. So it is a 10/6 for me. A really don't like how the wife character evolved through the tribulations and behaves in the last 10-15min of the movie, so I would say that is a bad character developement and not by the actress rather from the writer. I really like JT Walsh in it, he always great in these kind of roles. Actually whatever he was starring in I like his work. Kurt Russel also good in it. Watched Executive Decision(1996) a couple of days earlier too. Not my thing so to say, BUT I would evaluate that a somewhat better feature film alltogether. Slightly better. Of course not compareable budget wise, nor story wise. I will continue watching Kurt Russel movies but among these 3, Unlawful Entry(1992) was the best IMO.

  25. Agreed! I’ve always thought that they should have taken “World of Trouble”, tweaked it (aka get rid of the “havoc” thing at the beginning), elongated it out, and used it as the series finale! The show (along with Calderone) started with Lombard…it could have ended with him.

  26. Amen!! They really should have had Lombard in a few more episodes.

  28. Chuck Norris was able to starr in 10/2 movies just like Seagal and was famous for action scenes where he beats the shit out of the opponents, that is why I compared to him. I don't remember Chuck starring/as main character/ ever in good movies, but I remember how bad was the Walker - Texas Ranger series For example this. It is one of the trashest movie(Forest Warrior - 1996) I have ever seen even if it was produced for children. Scenes like grabbing the chainsaw and it stops are just insane

  29. Theatre of Magic (1993) featured on the video version of Jan Hammer’s fine “ Beyond the Mind’s Eye” LP was not the version released on the album —that was “ Magic Theatre” . It is extended and more upbeat. I love it - I also give the album 10 out of 10. Jan Hammer also released a jazz version of this theme on 2020s “ Sketches in Jazz “ also just great.

  30. That's right, it is Kendall Square, and you're right it's expensive - I talked to some passerby and he said a 1 bedroom goes for about $2,200. You can probably still get a 1bd in Brickell for $2,200 (in some older building). This place is 50-min drive from Brickell! By the way the guy was Venezuelan and another thing I learned from him was that Doral is locally known as Doralzuela because of so many immigrants from that country. I knew Venezuelans flock there but haven't heard the nickname before. Certainly true as I just found several online articles using it. To be clear Kendall Square is not unique in how nice it is. Here is Casa Vera just next door: Apartments start at over $2,200 for 1 bedroom. Camden in Doral: About $2,300 for one bedroom. Amli in Doral: $2,300. In fact Amli has several in South Florida, here is a beaut in Davie: South Florida is beautiful. Especially if you can fork out for a nice place!

  32. Yes but the date(s) he remembers is wrong (they filmed on Tuesday/Wednesday 26/27th August 1986 with the strip club scene on The second day) and not on a Saturday the 2nd, as we have the location call sheet of the day they filmed it further up in this thread.

  34. While I agree with you that Gina was undoubtedly presented as being of Hispanic/ Cuban origin (mainly because of her apparently fluent Spanish to my perception), and I recognized that Calabrese was an Italian-origin name, I also agree that the story of her mother Elena Obregon was tacked on with no prior reference. In fact, Gina told Sean Carroon that she had several brothers and sisters (without saying if they were older or younger, or really giving any info about her family). There was never any explanation of, or reference to, her ancestry/ heritage--just as all of the others were barely hinted at. Tubbs' brother was killed by the Calderone gang, Crockett was a football star at U of Florida and served in Vietnam; when the show starts his marriage is on the rocks and he has a 6-year-old son; Switek is an Elvis fan, Zito is from Staten Island, Trudy has an old boyfriend, Castillo did some top-secret work in SE Asia for "the agency" and had a Chinese wife who he thought was killed, but wasn't. He was also ambushed, attacked and left for dead--seemingly by men on his own team. When he recovered he left the agency and went into police work to continue to fight the drug traffic. The lack of background and detail made it easier for the show runners to add in details later that don't necessarily relate to past history, but also might have happened. For me, this family history for Gina made sense and was something that could have happened; however, I can see why some think it was a "mistake" or "debatable." I do think a lot of people seem to feel this was tacked on, and not necessarily gracefully. Virtually everyone's background was very lightly sketched. Castillo had the most background--but EJO was given control over his character to a degree that none of the other actors were. For me, Season 3 is not too late to add depth to a character's canon identity. The way I reconciled this story into canon was that after Gina's mother was killed, she was given to her aunt (mom's sister), who may or may not have been married. If she was married, her husband could have been killed during the revolution when Castro came to power. Aunt then refugeed to Miami with Gina and any other children she may have already had. In Miami she met Mr. Calabrese and married him. They may have had more children together and continued to raise Gina as their own daughter. Aunt may not have told Gina about her birth mother's story until Gina was an adult.

  35. Grave's stuff should be taken with a grain of salt. "Bubba Switek"? Really? He might have assumed they were in the same universe (which is fine for his stuff), but that doesn't mean Yerkovitch and Mann saw things the same way.

  40. As to the very last location in the movei, unidentified, CGlide skipped it altogether, though it's after credits, so maybe he had a different version of the movie (in which the lawyer wouldn't be in on it). It's not the easiest one, because it must be again a Miami-Dade location pretending to be some island. With goats roaming the beach! A quick guess would be Crandon park again, but not sure.

  41. I appreciate that man. True story: My best friend has an 11 year old autistic son whom I’ve known and loved all his life. On a visit this past weekend, the boy reached for my hand, pulled me in, and pressed his head to mine for a few seconds. I excused myself to the restroom afterwards and cried for a few minutes. Autism speaks, and its stronger than any words I’ve ever heard.
