lear60man
I wouldnt worry about any type of skid plate on a Daytona. The TR has a nose that is low AND hangs out far in front of the wheels. The Daytona nose goes up away from the ground.

Kavinsky
hmm also I found out that with the transmissions if you want to upgrade to a 4 speed auto the TH400 R4 1985 - is the way to go apparently, although the main thing that will effect the acceleration is the gears and the TH 350 and 400 should be able to take it and the power the engine is putting out. also the guy I was talking to did use the spreader bar from speed direct but I forgot to ask him how much difference it makes, as its like a frame mounted monte carlo bar infront of the engine, rather than above the engine mounted to the wheel well areas and the center. not much to report beyond that, although I really need to ask him about that spreader bar as it reinforces what appears to be a weak area in the C3 frame, and he's had to touch up that area, that very area, that I showed in the photos too, which is what the spreader bar reinforces. and in his words, major thing to look out for is the frame as the wielding wasnt very good in the time period and the rust in the birdcage areas, basically everything showed in this video with the bird cage but it is also worth mentioning that I've been going through a backlog of shows from Philip Glenister, called for the love of cars and well some of the stuff they cover explains a great deal, and vindicated something jay leno said about some cars just being fixes on fixes, when all you need to do is just follow the factory's lead and set it up properly stock wise on the Trimph Stag and the the fiat 500. with the engine on the stag and the steering box and construction of the Fiat 500, and given that british leeland was striking and openly rebeling against itself I'm not too surprised about the stag one. plus the one on the Ford Escort Mexico is really something else, its just a shame I had to go via the grey market youtube search to see them and that one episode was abit garbled. guess his HDVD or whatever wasnt up to snuff and also a sudden urge to look up the old jaguar mark 2 payed up divdents, IE the wheeler dealers episode on the jaguar mark 2, turns out that with the wielding torch you want to use the very tip and end of it for wielding, not the midsection, and with how that looks that might explain why some of those old cars had either botched or poor wield repairs over the years. as if you didnt know that, it would be a very easy mistake to make and would cause you to cut right through the frame and make it weaker, so if you gotta get some work done, make sure he's a patience wielder and maybe not a major volume guy. and obiviously dont look at the naked flame without a shield as that can cause damage. also you said the thing is going to go or be in england, the guy to look up there when it comes to Corvettes to my knowledge is a guy called Tom Falconer, he's published a few books that were recommended to me by the corvette forums and he was one of the people that supplied Lotus with the necessary parts to build the Corvette C4 ZR1, as one of the engineers during that time period called him up looking for spares and accidentally spilled the beans about the project in the late 1980's plus it also explains why production mules are not sold to the public too http://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-Corvette-1968-1982-1968-1982-by-Tom-Falconer-James-Mann-Hardback-/111740110487?hash=item1a043ac697 although i would buy it on amazon, as the prices on ebay are all over the place and way too high, and I still need to get the book on the C1 one of these days. Kavinsky
and after a recent trip to the bodyshop once the car is done paint wise dont wax it for awhile, as the body needs to cure and will be giving off fumes for a little while while it does said thing, and waxing would keep those fumes in and cause an adverse reaction to the body also with the car cover dont put multiple covers on, and make sure it breaths for that very reason as well, as the guy was tellimg me about a 53 Corvette that he knew of that was waxed, put under mutiple car covers and bubbled because it couldnt breath, as it basically baked the bodywork. so I'm not going to be waxing the bumper of my car for awhile while the repair work cures. also he told me for the small scratches, surface ones on the gloss coat a soft paste wax put on by hand is the way to get them out, as it basically massages the gloss coat, not going after it with a polish and a wax via a machine kinda deal. which would explain why Sonny Burnetts car came out so well as the guy always hand waxed and hand polished it before he bought it a few years ago. Fred
Hi All, This is a very long shot in a very old thread but I’m gonna try anyway... I’m considering ro buy a semi-finished McBurnie but the most critical issue is a missing convertible top. Did any of you guys actually manage to solve this ? As far that I can see on photos, convertible tops from C3’s wont fit as theres no backplate / decklid on a McBurnie. Or am I getting it wrong ??? Thx for any replies - hope someone still outthere :-)
Bigsarg
It’s a C3 convertible top that’s been modified to take the bottom back piece off

It was taken at an auto show some time before i even saw the car and I have that stand-up display frame seen in this pic.

Kavinsky
I think everyone just kinda burned out, as I did, although its kind of shocking, I stop posting for awhile as I'm doing a ton of house improvements and getting involved in other things, and plans for the future and I guess I didnt relize how much of a pillar I was, as I was on daily talking with people and it seems like things have dropped off abit. not the only thing that's dropped off too as I used to play CSS alot and the servers I've gone to and dailyed for awhile dropped off as well, along with alot of my other friends. and sorry to those that that happened, its just one of those weird things, other things needed attention and I needed to give them it.
